Title: Head bearings and swinging arm
Post by: Bryn on September 08, 2013, 06:41:43 PM
Is it much of a job to get them re-greased? For that matter can they be an issue?

Major trip coming up this time next year and the plan is to do a good service beforehand.

(09 with 13k on the clock at the moment )

Mines on an 11 plate with 18k+ and I've never had mine done and there's no issue with them at all.

Is it just peace of mind you want to do them for or is there's something amiss?

I'm of the old school if it ain't broke don't fix it ilk.... remember the saying: "the more you f*#k with something the worse it gets".

So unless I feel it needs done, I leave it alone.

Barring obvious things like changing oils and checking fluid levels etc, checking nuts and fixings are tight before a big trip and so forth....

I'm not entirely sure I'm correct on this, but the swing arm is nylon bearings and doesn't need maintenance.....

Mine is a 2010 with 50k and never done then...  All weather, snow, rain, sleet, more rain..... Nighttime, day time, -10 and +30..... And ridden reasonably hard....

In a Motogymkhana machine sympathy sort of way......  ;-)

Reckon so... Oil/filter change and a good check over should suffice ....plus a set of new tyres ... Got 11 months or so, so no hurry

Bryn,

Would suggest replacing the front wheel bearings as a preventative. My bike goes through them every 20k miles.

Martin.
