My windshield has been on and off so many times in the last month that one of the hex bolts had stripped.
It's part number 92153 on the microfiche: http://www.cornwallkawasaki.co.uk/shop/shop.php?cmd=showdiagram&id=20131
Anyone know the size and type so I'm not having to wait on the dealer to get me one?
I still have to work out how I'm going to extract it out as well
Is it M6 x 11mm long? or M11 x 6mm long? Have you got a proper hardware/ironmonger near you they should be able to help you out
I just did a google and it looks like an M6. Apparently we have a nut and bolt specialist in the area as well so will be down to see them on Friday.
I think a screw extractor should be able to take it out
NB, if you get stuck trying to obtain a replacement bolt, try Bradford Nut & Bolt at Bradford 3. They are the experts.
Thanks LW.
Danlett in Huddersfield have told me to bring it in as they do many different types of shouldered bolts.
Purchased a screw extractor kit from Maplins earlier. Hopefully will be sufficient to remove the bolt. Will find out tonight
The screw extractor I purchased snapped off inside :(
I'll try again tomorrow, but the bolt is screwed. May end up drilling it out

They are shite those screw extractors, especially the small ones.
Far better to try to raise a "lip" using a dot-punch, the use the punch to turn the screw.
If that fails then drill it. If the extractor bit is still in the screw then you need to get it out first.
Start with as small a drillbit as you dare and work your way up.
Do not be tempted to use too big a drill too soon.
Check after every drill and stop as soon as you see a hint of the thread.
Then use a spike to tease the remains of the screw out.
This way you'll cause minimal damage to the thread.
As for how it got stuck, I'm betting on it being crossthreaded. :o ;)

Thanks for the Boomer. That's what I'll be trying tonight. First one will be to get the dremel out and cut across the bolt so I can get a flat screwdriver in and hopefuly turn it.
It didn't get stuck because its cross threaded, just the the screen has been on and off so many times that the hex just wore away.
Absolute pain as Fatharry is waiting for the screen but patience is a virtue :D
got lots of patience me........no really...........sat at work at the moment waiting for my new exhaust to be delivered.....am considering doing some lunchtime engineering and swapping my exhausts in the car park...doesn't look like a big job?

Nah, doddle. If you've got the original on, you'll probably need to remove the gasget. Also remember that there's a rubber bung on the orignal that prevents the centre stand crashing into the exhaust. That needs to be taken off the old and put on the new
What a SOB to get this bugger off. In the end realised that the plastic washer raised the head of the bolt ever to slightly. Managed to lay a pair of grippers flat and just about manged to grip the head (after about 10 attempts).
Then turned it very very very slowly and the bolt turned.
Is it sorted now?
These are supposed to be good if you have any further problems. Have a look on You Tube, I think there are quite a few vids showing how easy it is.

Yup. I'll take some pics later so you can see the state of the bolt
