For those of you that have the R&G bars on the GTR, do they interfere with the removal of the fairings?
Yes, I did think I could cut a slot in the top part of the fairing to slide it around but it's no go. I can easily change the air filter with them on, gain access to the header tank for the rad but if you want to do plugs they have to come off.
In my opinion I would rather have them than not, and I got mine £15 cheaper by emailing R&G direct.
Happy riding Asif.

They do indeed. If you're looking for protection that still allows you to remove the fairing, you may want to consider looking into our Canyon Cages. They've been extremely popular since their introduction and have received raving reviews from numerous sources. With our Canyon Cages, a very small, simple modification will allow you to remove the fairings for maintenance while the guards remain installed. If you have any questions regarding our Concours accessories, don't hesitate to ask here, PM me, or email me directly!
we do like your cages and have looked into them before, by the time you get them shipped here and we pay the vat and excise duty they come in at £300 gbp plus, that's 50% more expensive than the rg adventure at £200 to our door.

Ooof. I didn't realize there was that big of a difference in price between the two. Since we cover shipping for domestic orders, I'd be willing to work with you guys on the price a little bit to help you save some dough. I'm not sure what it would amount to but if any of you guys are interested in our Canyon Cages, shoot me a PM or an email and mention that you're from the forum and I'd be happy to work with you on price.
Mine from MCEnterprises came to £500/800$.. That was £400/650$ for the full set of cages and £100/150$ for tax & Import duty..

Good Lord! They really hit you hard with that import and duty tax, don't they? That was for a full set, though, correct? Both the Canyon Cage and Saddle Bag Guards? I just want to make sure we're comparing apples to apples here as the other individual was speaking about just the Canyon Cage, I believe.
give us the numbers again,
how much for just the cages to protect the front fairing, how much for shipping and maybe someone else can chirp in with an estimate for customs/excise, ie debs from experience
what will they cost to my door?
Yes Ryan it was for the Canyon Cage and Saddle Bag Guards on an 2009 GTR/Concours 14
Viper..
In the charge was £80 Import VAT @ 20%, £12 Customs Duty & £8 Parcel Force admin fee.
Most goods arriving in the UK from outside the EU are liable to any or all of the following taxes:
customs duty
excise duty
import VAT
and must be paid whether:
you purchase the goods or receive them as a gift
the goods are new or used (including antiques)
the goods are for your private use or for re-sale

The Canyon Cage is $300 and the Saddle Bag Guards are $175. Shipping for just the Canyon Cage to anywhere in the U.K. would be $89.50 and shipping for both accessories would be $106.50. So, the shipping charge depends on which combination of guards you get. As I said above, though, I'd be willing to work with you guys a bit on these prices if any of you are interested in these products.
so that's
Canyon cages at $300 + $90 shipping + £60 vat and approx £20 charges, so at 1.60 conversion rate on the $390 that's £323 gbp to my door
V
RG adventure bars at £200 to my door. to compete against the RG you would have to bring the Cages in at about 160 bucks to make the overall cost to us at just over £200 gbp, which im sure you cant do ,?

Yea, that might be a tad much to discount. I may be able to work it down to around $250 or so MSRP but that would be about it. You have to keep in mind, too, that not all guards are created equal. Aesthetics are extremely personal and everyone has a different opinion but there are a slew of reviews out there that are of the opinion that our Canyon Cages are sturdier, look better, and in most instances out-perform the R&G bars. Also, because our bars are 1" they're much easier to mount auxiliary lighting or highway pegs to. So, at the end of the day, it becomes a matter of getting what you pay for. Don't get me wrong, the R&G bars are a decent product for the price. I suppose it's all about personal preference, though.
What size tubing is used on the R&G ones? I'm sure the new ones from MCEnterprises are 1" making them stronger
Ryan, what's the cheapest tracked shipping you can do? I can wait a while so wouldn't need it to be air freight.
Group buy would lower costs as well

I can't find any information on the overall diameter or wall thickness of the material they use. However, it definitely appears to be under 1". Keep in mind, though, that wall thickness is generally a better indicator of strength rather than overall diameter.

Normally we ship international orders via USPS and the cheapest price I'm getting from them (for the Canyon Cage only) is $89.50. We do not charge up for shipping and there is no "handling" fee, we simply charge the customer what the shipping company charges us. The parcel weighs 16 pounds and ships in a 20"x12"x10" box. If you can find a cheaper shipping method, I'd be more than happy to send it that way for you.
Oh, man, if we could put together a Group Buy then I could definitely save you guys a pretty penny on the Canyon Cage accessories. I don't mind organizing one for you guys, if there's enough interest in these accessories. There would need to be at least 10 participants to make it worth it, though.
The small modification that allows you to remove the fairings without removing the Canyon Cage is very simple to do. There are these small tabs on the fairing at the front portion of those air vents that slide behind another portion of the fairing, basically you have to notch a few small gaps in those tabs. The photo below shows where these gaps need to be placed. It's very easy to do with a hack saw or dremel and is hidden once the parts/fairings are completely installed. So, you'll never see this modification when the bike is all put together.

I'm not familiar with that Group Buy but its failure could have stemmed from the way it was conducted. We've conducted numerous successful Group Buys for other similar products that we offer. Normally, we offer discounts based on the number of total participants (10% off for 0-10 participants, 20% off for 11-20 participants, etc.) then set a deadline for everyone to order by. People call or email individually, give their shipping and payment information, and then we ship the guards based on order number once the deadline hits. That way it's much tougher for people to back out and we can easily adjust the discount as the total number of participants changes.
It's definitely something I'm willing to set up for you guys as long as there's a decent amount of interest. I have basically given you my rock bottom price for individual sales but if there's enough interest for a Group Buy, you guys could potentially save even more.
if you are handling the admin of the group buy then we have a chance of making it work, lets see how else shows an interest

You can indeed fit the Canyon Cages without any modification to the fairings. There is no cutting or drilling required to mount our accessories. The only reason to do that specific modification is so you can remove the fairings without having to remove the Canyon Cage. Makes it a bit easier when doing routine maintenance.

Well, good news everyone! We've been in contact with a dealer located in the U.K. to hopefully import our Concours accessories. If we can get the details ironed out, they'll be carrying our products there at very competitive rates to the R&G accessories which will really help you guys save some coin. Once it's finalized, I'll post the dealer name and location here and you guys can begin purchasing our products directly from them to save on freight and duty fees!

We worked out some preliminary pricing and it seems as though it's going to be financially viable for them. As long as the shipping isn't TOO outrageous it looks like this will be a go. It seems as though, based on the pricing, that the British dealer will be able to offer our parts at competitive rates with the R&G bars. Ours may be slightly more expensive but they'll be much closer to the same ballpark than they are now for you guys. Anyway, see below for pictures! I was also sure to include one with the bike on its side with the protection installed so you can see what kind of protection is offered.

For the Concours, we have two different styles of guards. One is our lower-profile Canyon Cage which is more designed for civilian use (the one I pictured in my post) and then we have the Law Enforcement Guards which are the larger style pictured on Debs bike. We still sell both versions. The Canyon Cage is much more popular, though.

I'm interested in them particularly now that it appears we may be able to purchase them in the UK. I would want the front and rear protection though which according to your pricing as things currently stand would cost me $475. Taking into account that the potential UK stockist would be selling them at a price comparable with your 'rivals' that would make them very affordable.
However if this project were to take months to implement people will lose interest, myself included, when do you feel you may know whether things will be a go?

That's great to hear! Oh, it definitely won't be that long. I've already given the U.K. dealer freight charges for the discussed amount that he wants to start out with and I'm waiting to hear back. He has a bit of number-crunching to do to estimate the taxes and duty fees he'll have to pay but I'm hoping this will continue to move forward in a timely manner. I'm guessing it won't take him longer than a few days to look into the tax/duty fees and hopefully we'll get an order from him shortly after that if he does find that it's viable for him. I'll certainly keep you guys posted but it sounds like we may have a legit U.K. dealer within a week or two.

Forgive my ignorance but the panniers are the saddle bags, correct? The Saddle Bag Guards
look like they protrude more than they actually do in Debs photo due to the convex nature of the saddle bags themselves. From the widest point of the saddle bag the Saddle Bag Guard only sticks out about an inch or so, if that. They're very, very tight. I posted a photo below with a bit better angle showing this. It should have no effect on your ability to filter through traffic, though, as the widest point on the bike is still the mirrors. So if your mirrors can squeeze the gap, the entire bike will certainly fit.

Awesome! Okay, that's what I thought but I wasn't totally sure. Sounds like I need to work on my British lingo! Almost nobody on this side of the pond refers to them as panniers (even though it's easier to say and rolls off the tongue smoother than saddle bags, IMO).

Hey guys! I just wanted to give you a bit of an update on what's happening with the dealer in the U.K. Everything is moving forward very smoothly, thus far and we've even gotten the shipping all situated. The dealer has even submitted the order and we're working on getting it all organized as we speak. The dealer is purchasing so much that we're going to ship all the parts on a pallet which drastically reduces the shipping cost per guard which, in turn, reduces the end price you guys will pay! From the shipping company we're using, service to the U.K. from the U.S.A. is only 3-5 days so hopefully the guards will be available for sale there within a week or two although this time frame isn't set in stone. As soon as I know when we're shipping, I'll be sure to post the dealer website here for you guys so you can begin ordering.
I actually have some pricing ready for you guys as the dealer has estimated his cost including all taxes, duty, fees, and shipping. All Canyon Cages (for the 2010-2014 Concours 1400, 2006-2012 FJR1300, and 2013-2014 FJR1300) are £239 and all Saddle Bag Guards (for the same bikes) will be £140. Shipping is set at £12 for next day delivery and £8 for 3-5 day service for all customers within the U.K.
that's fab news and your efforts are much appreciated , I wish you all the best with your overseas expansion
I hope you are making the most of this new dealer outlet and advertsing the shit out of it, you are gonna need more customers than this humble site can provide .
good work,

Thank you very much! We actually don't do much advertising besides SOE. We used to have various print ads and stuff but it never really seemed to help very much. We seemed to get more business by reaching out to folks on forums like this rather than actual advertising. Although I believe the dealer himself is getting the word out a bit on his end. As of right now, we get at least a few international inquiries a week regarding these products so I'll simply be directing those people to this new dealer from now on so as to save on shipping, duty, and taxes so that'll certainly help him move the product.
The dealer actually specifically requested that I do not release his information (although I wanted to!) until the product is a day or two from arriving. I'm not sure why but it's up to him and I'm respecting his request. I figured he'd want to start accumulating orders but I guess he'd rather wait until he can ship the product the same day as the order is placed. Once we ship the product and it's close to arriving at his place, I'll be sure to give you guys all the necessary information.
That's very good news.
