I bought the Schuberth Rider Communication System (SRCS) for my C3 helmet and stupidly believed Schuberth when they state it is compatible with Garmin and TomTom sat nav's.
I have just returned a Garmin Zumo 350 LM because although it paired with the SRCS the turn by turn instructions could not be heard even when stationary and without earplugs they were so faint.
Latest SRCS and Garmin firmware were loaded but made no difference.
My Samsung Galaxy 3 pairs and the volume on phone, navigation and music is fine.
(BTW, the radio on the SRCS is widely reported as being rubbish and I concur).
Has anyone tried pairing the SRCS with the TomTom Rider V5 or had success when pairing to any other sat nav with full European coverage?
TomTom service desk will not comment on compatibility, stating they have not tested it.
I have big trip planned and don't really want to rely on my out of date maps on my Garmin Nuvi 350 on a ram mount in a freezer bag and paper maps.
Any help would be appreciated.
Rob
I know this is a bit obvious but have you checked the volume controls on the Zumo??
Kind regards
Steve
I checked the volume controls on the Zumo. They were set to max. It didn't make any difference. The SRCS volumes were set to max too. The message from the SRCS that the Garmin (which it described as a phone) was connected was very loud.
Rob
I am sure you have probably tried various combinatins of connecting the devices but just another thought.
Are both the phone and the Sat Nav bluetoothed to the SRCS? I am not sure about SRCS but often there can be issues/problems trying to connect both devices to a headset. The normal trick is to bluetooth the Sat Nav and to the SRCS first and then bluetooth the phone to the Sat Nav.
Kind regards
Steve
Only one device can be connected at a time by Bluetooth. The Zumo 350 does not support linking a mobile phone to it then connecting to a headset. The Zumo was the only connected device so priority and order of pairing was not the issue. I exhausted all possibilities with the Zumo and returned it for refund. I am keen to find out if the SRCS is known to work perfectly with any other GPS device.
Cheers
Rob
I had the SRCS system and tried it with the Zumo 550, I thought the sound quality was very poor and I also returned it for a no quibble refund to Hein Gericke, I then went down the Autocom route which was excellent.
I have an Autocom and have wired speakers in my old C2 helmet, they were a little bulky but the solution worked well as you know Lonewolf. I plugged the Autocom into the Garmin Nuvi 350 earphone socket and put a freezer bag over it with an elastic band around it and the supporting Ram arm. It has worked for two bikes and thirty+ thousand miles.
I thought I would update to Bluetooth connectivity when I upgraded to a C3 with the long term plan that I would eventually upgrade to a compatible sat nav and get rid of the Autocom and lots of cables.
I've had the SRCS for some months now so I am stuck with it and I don't fancy stripping it out and fitting wired speakers having spent an exorbitant amount of cash.
I would like to persevere and find a working solution.
It works fine with my phone I am just hoping someone somewhere has managed a successful pairing with a Garmin 660 or a TomTom Rider version 5 and is willing to tell the tale.
Failing that does anyone know where there is a dealer with a demo TomTom Rider V5 anywhere between Leeds, Liverpool, Birmingham and Hull and I'll go and test it with my SRCS.
I think I'm coming to realise that the latest technology is not always the best.
Thanks for your comments.
Rob
My daughter has the Schuberth system and has had a number of issues with connectivity, afraid that I do not know the full details.
I use a Scala Rider FM paired to A BMW Navigator 1V (Garmin 660 clone) with the Nokia telephone paired to the Sat Nav and in two years, it has been absolutley faultless, although this probably doesn't help at all in respect of the Schuberth!
I also have an Autocomm (hard wired) and have not used it since buying the Scala FM, as the Bluetooth is so much more convenient.
Hi flatfour, I believe the Cardo Scala works with the Zumo 350 as well as the 660 according to comments on the www. It's a bit baffling why the SRCS also made by Cardo doesn't work with the 350. It isn't just me or faulty kit, others have documented the no volume problem with this combination.
It would be interesting to know if your daughter ever found a good SRCS/GPS solution.
Rob
Rob, I have put a call in to ask her, no doubt will hear shortly. She works in Central London, so is there all week.
Thanks for your efforts flatfour.
Rob
Rob, perhaps not the news that you wanted - my daughter has both a Tom Tom and Garmin GPS and has given up on the coms side with both of them, she now just looks at the screen from time to time. In general, her riding is anyway over known routes, so perhaps it is not too important to her.
She did say that her friends have more success with the Tom Tom/Schuberth combination than the Garmin/Schuberth.
Thanks for that flatfour.
It's getting worse by the minute.
I found an interesting link at:
http://www.mortis.org.uk/?p=369
It mentions potential volume problems on the Garmin 550 and 660 which is consistent with your daughter and her friends findings.
I've posted it here because it may help anyone considering spending £250+ on the Schuberth system.
A pal of mine had volume issues with the Garmin 660 and his Autocom, apparently its a hard wiring issue.
I've used the garmin 660 with my Starcom Digital and its perfect
Just a quick update for anyone who stumbles across this thread.
I bought the TomTom Rider V5 and with the latest version of firmware on the SCRS it worked fine.
I have just returned from 4,500 mile trip to Croatia and Italy and it did the job.
I didn't try to pair to anything in addition to the sat nav, don't want to take phone calls and I find music a distraction.
I found the lane assist function quite useful and accurate.
I lost connection with the SCRS at one point but I reset the Schuberth system (cleared all paired devices-small section right at the back of the manual) and re-paired it to the TomTom and it worked fine. I'm not sure whether this was due to the fact that I had previously paired the SCRS to my Samsung S3 phone and it may have tried to pick up the Bluetooth from the phone that I had with me and switched on.
Inputting the city/street names with the default keyboard (three or four characters to a key) was a pain and it wasn't until I was half way through the trip I found that I could change it to a QWERTY keyboard which worked much better.
There were a couple of problems with the Tyre mapping software, it accepts an address and sets it as a destination in the itinerary and this transfers from PC to sat nav fine however, it approximates the address if it can't find it. There is no message that it has done this and consequently you are taken to a point within a few miles of where you want to go.
If anyone wants any more detail - post a reply.
Well I was reconsidering getting one of these systems for my C3 but you have just convinced me that it wouldn't be a great idea.
It was recently suggested to me that the BMW System 6 helmet with the BMW Bluetooth setup would be a good purchase, I've yet to try it but so far what I've read about it, it does seem to be in the running, downside is the price, helmet and comms will cost you £720.
SRC --> TomTom Urban og latest = Working like a champ!
In general... you should connect your SRC to SatNav - and your Mobile to SatNav as well.... allthough you can connect your SRC directly to phone - but let the SatNavn (TomTom) handle that part! Even though you don't want to talk mobile you can see who is calling and prep. for a chat whenever you pause!
I'm thinking of buying a c3 helmet but not the comms system. What do you think of the helmet, is it as quiet as reported?
I replaced a Shoei Multitech with a C3 about two years months ago.
TBH I'm not very keen on the C3 although it is light and does seem to be well designed
Its flip front facility is a useful facility, but as I don't tour much anymore I now prefer to use my Arai Tour X4
I would suggest that you look at/try the Shoei Neotec, which is a flip front helmet with good features before making your purchase, not all helmets will correctly fit every head and should always be tried for size and correct fit
I previously had a Nolan N102 or 103, cant remember which. I went from that to the C3, significantly more money but the quality and simplicity of the C3 appeals to me. The visor removal is a doddle, the weight is good, the visibility, i.e. side field of view is good & it doesn't impede my wearing of glasses.
I'd buy another if required in a flash.
Thanks for the info chaps
Well, my C3 with SRC system works really well with the Zumo 550 and I can hear the instructions loud and clear even at higher speeds.
But I have to add that before I installed a Laminar Lip the wind noise was quite bad even with the screen full up.
you're back then :whistling:

Just a quick brush-up on this topic...
I have 2 x Schuberth C3 Pro helmets with SRC (firmware v4.20) and often touring with my friend with his C3/SRC with firmware v3.00
My helmet is linked with GPS - my phone is linked to GPS and talking (routed) to helmet that way. My co-driver is linked on channel B - my friend on channel A. Even my RDS/Radio is active....
Now...it's working.. but periodic the headset link from TomTom Rider 2013 (v5) is falling out... "no speaker" icon is displayed on the TomTom. If that happens I need to "reset factory settings" on my TomTom since TomTom has a really BUG of handling their bluetooth connections. It's a pain in the a..... when you're on touring! You loose PI's, routes etc. Anyway...it's periodic for time being, and I have wrote info to TomTom and Schuberth support. No response for time being.....but it will come!
Sound quality is really good....3 x intercom on the same time... fantastic... radio, gps and mobile.... really good!
More to come....
