Title: Pannier brackets
Post by: Simmo on August 12, 2013, 10:49:12 AM
The panniers on my bike seen to have some upward movement on the rear most hanger both sides. I heard somewhere that there is a mod to solve this ( a bracket that can be fitted over the hangers when the panniers are in place. ) Been searching the forums and cant find anything relating to this mod other than a comment on the zx forum . com from a fellow gtr owner out In Oz. there is a link on his comment for a pannier bracket on e bay but sadly the link doesn't work and a search of e bay hasn't come up with anything.

Anybody heard of this bracket or got one fitted.

The ones I know of are these

He's in America and calls them 'saddlebags' probably why your search did not find them.

Alternatively, there are details on the USA forums for putting a locking pin through the front lower pannier mount, see here

you may find this thread useful as a few gtr owners have lost panniers.

i copied a simple mod from one of the us sites and its in the thread , well worth doing

Mine are pinned in the front, this is on my to-do list just for a little extra security as they are almost always full.

Thanx for the response.  Had a look at the brackets on e bay. They appear to be what I've heard about. Will purchase a pair and see how I get on.
Don't fancy having then come off. Surprised Kawasaki didn't do a recall for this problem and sort it. It appears from the comments on Forums and the videos on you tube that this is a design flaw.

Other than this problem I cant fault the bike one little bit its just brilliant. Hope to get some serious miles done in Europe this September. Any suggestions on routes appreciated was think about a trip down to the italian lakes.

Just looked at these 'brackets'....     Two tent pegs, and something to bend them with.... and a little time in the garage  :innocent:

I used MGValario's mod - 4 x 4mm allen keys and a 5mm drill bit - sorted for £2

Well... why all this hassle?

That will do the job - even in a cheap way!  :mfr_lol:

I did it MG's way - works a treat. Have pannier bags that lift out so no need to take the panniers off now when I get to a hotel

Do not wish it on anyone, but if you fall do not jump off the bags, protect us, it is not sottovaltare this hypothesis.
