Title: high beam running!
Post by: 2kwacks on August 04, 2013, 07:33:20 PM
something I've never done.. running in day time with my high beam on  but I've noticed when viewing clips of various bike rides on either you tube or on members clips the majority run in "day time only" with high beam on, now I can see the benefits of this  but just wondering how many of us run with high beam on in day light, should imagine it would take a fair amount from the battery and considerable shorten the batteries life and efficiency, this would be a fair swap if it was to help prevent that car numpty pulling out on you, but you could argue that if the car driver can't see your bikes normal on head light would he even see the high beam!

I don't and I won't.  Don't want to dazzle, and I'm sure it's illegal anyway.

It annoys the shit out of me when I see people in cars with main beam on in the day - they have probably just forgotten or knocked the stem etc. when indicating... I have a similar reaction when I see bikes with main beams on during the day, or poorly adjusted at night.

Just my 2cts  :smartass:

Riding with high beam on has the contrary effect you are hoping to acheive - Being Visible.

By riding on High Beam it removes a drivers ability to judge distance and may even make someone think you are further away - even if they see you.

Dipped beam, or daytime running lights, give another road user more chance to judge distance.  DRL's actually give a more dimensional view than single headlamp, meaning other road users can judge speed and distance better.

You cant run with your high beams on, surely , dazzling other drivers is an offence and at the very least a bit selfish .
