Title: GTR mileage
Post by: Ant on July 26, 2013, 08:51:39 PM
Hi, Can anyone shed some light on how many miles GTR's are good for.

I know they haven't been out that long but wondered what kind of total miles people have on their bikes 50k, 60k, 100k ?

cheers

well it all depends on your maintenance routine. The GTR has a very modern engine , same as a car , so as long as it has regular oil changes, good coolant and is not thrashed then it shold go over 100k in my opinion, when you say , how long will the bike last , there are allsorts of unknown items such as final drive and ecu's and such like, no one item would write a bike off , but maintaining it when its only worth 2k may not be viable.

If you have a plan to get yours to a 100k and you are prepared to look after/maintain it then its completely possible. A few on here have had 100k out of lesser kawasakis

Glad to see you guys are up and about at this hour.

Out of interest Steve you are a daily user of GTR and now on your second one...............what sort of mileage have you clocked up?
Just come out of 2012 meet pics trying to match names to faces
After my Irish trip I'm now run in and enjoying the ride nearly 2000 on the clock.  So when do they give of there best?

Only off topic if taken in isolation Ant..............was responding to Winston's thread

when i say thrashed , i mean that its not beaten with a tree branch ala john cleese

redlining it in every gear at every oportunity is totaly acceptable

:mfr_lol: Now in tears remembering JC counting to 10 going off camera returning with said tree and giving the car a good Thrashing .................classic

As a new boy I have to say that like Ant I'm interested to hear of mileage our steeds are capable of and am encouraged by Debs "Baby" with over 50k on the clocks.....................Like Ant said please let us new boys know the expected life of our rides  :help:

Thanks for the info Steve............It is good that the only probs reported on the site are now well known and dare I use the term "typical of type"...............we don't seem to have motors letting go on a daily base.................which is good for a long term relationship.........................I wonder if we have any 100k + machines out on the street?

Cheers

Boomer is your best bet for any info like that - George!  Where Are You?  (Bit like where's wally....mmmm, maybe not :whistling: )

Kwak engines traditionally have fantastic longevity since the 70's.

Good strong engines.  New stuff like electronics, traction control systems etc. are potential issues for most manufacturers, or cheap sourced parts which lack the QC of in-house parts.

Only issues on the 14 are ignition (earlier models) and warping discs (avoided in the main with meticulous cleaning)

Nearly..... 1 category was a 2..... Gutted really, because I knew I did it and getting a 2 for positioning in a 30 zone is a little harsh (although justified).

Did you?
Title: Re: GTR mileage
Post by: Lonewolf on July 31, 2013, 09:14:36 PM
I got a 2 also for positioning but I also got a 3 for legality. 3 meaning satisfactory and yet I got that because my offside pannier went over a solid white line to my offside and the examiner reckons that's an endorsable offence.

It was the same examiner that I had for my RoSPA last year when I fell out with RoSPA because of their anal view on the pannier encroaching over the solid white line.

It's not a view I share with them but then what do I know about road traffic law?  :mfr_lol:

I'm just glad I passed, I've no time for RoSPA but I have found the IAM to be chilled out and a good set of blokes.

Post by: SirToU on July 31, 2013, 09:52:20 PM
I think that depends on who you get... As far as endorsable goes, hmmmm interesting but we had the discussion about that very topic, but it really depends on the situation.

Also, I'm currently coaching a friend who failed the test last year, my opinion is that people have elements they really look out for and panniers are an easy target.   Always make sure your on your side of the road under exam conditions.... The rules are there, when riding on your own, know the rules, and stretch them where required : ie. Offsiding and white lines (panniers), when under exam conditions..... Ride to the letter of the system and the law....

Yes ok, So I'm preaching to the coverted,  but sorry, I have no sympathy because by your own statement you had the same issue last year, but you didn't adjust (Even for the test).

I got RoSPA Gold 4.5 years ago, the Highway Code and the System hasn't changed, but people's interpretation of it has.......  You have to do things by the book... Yet the first thing thing the IAM book says about IPSGA (The System) is "each element of IPSGA should not be applied slavishly, but always be considered" ...  That's the true sign of an advanced rider in my book.... Know the system, know the law, apply it with creativity yet with discipline...... And it works!  :-)

Congratulations on passing both though....  (What did you get in RoSPA?)

What did I get with RoSPA,  :mfr_lol: nothing worth mentioning on here :whistling:

Neil, I wasn't after sympathy, I did the IAM basically for the social side, a pass is a pass is a pass. I'm very satisfied with my result and the examiner and I have made up.

Sorry, that sounds magnanimous of me.....

Agreed, any advanced training is worth the hassle... But for friendship ;-). That hurts....  Are we not good enough?  LOL (Lots of Love?).....

I'm looking for my next challenge - perhaps an IAM Master!    :-)

Yes I love everyone on here, apart from that little kid from Liverpool.  :mfr_lol:

My new challenge, I might have a go at becoming motogymkhana champion 2014, but then again probably not. I'll just continue living my mundane life.
