Has anybody heard of clutch failing at high alitude with lever going to the handle bar with no effect at the top, but recovering on the way down.. It has been blead with no air found. Just done 3000 mile trip of europe with no other issuses........except on high passes. Is there another cause for this happening. Now I am back in the Uk I don't suppose that I will find a hill high enought to retest.
Any ideas OZZMOTOR
what high altititude did you experience in europe, ive been over most of the biggest alps in switzerland and my clutch was fine, cant imagine that causing hyraulic pressure to fail
The highest was stelvio. It felt like air had got in . But no fuild was lost. If at the top i parked up and pumped lever full use would return. It happened 10 times in 12 days.
Clutch has been blead and feels fine now..but it did at low alt. Im thinking sucking air or sticking master cylinder seal caused by pressure drop. But i have never heard of anything like it before. Winter strip i think!!!
Thanks for reply
its got to be air , have you bled the clutch? or a dealer ? forgive me for asking but bleeding brakes and clutches on bikes is done in a differnt way than that on cars.
if you have done it, then maybe do it again and run all the fluid out replacing with fresh, continually pumping, maybe a few bubbles are lurking in there
apologies if you have done this, just trying to help
I'm probably taking out of my :asshole: on this one...................
But brake / clutch fluid is hydroscopic which means it absorbs water which in turn reduces its boiling point.
The boiling point of any fluid follows Boyles Law (P1 x T1) / V1 = (P2 x T2) / V2 so water contaminated fluid + low atmospheric pressure = vapour lock..............................
Suggest replace fluid with new from a fresh sealed container.
Well done Charlie, that is a spot on answer!

Thanks ...............when I first saw the post it got me thinking.................just sorry it took so long to respond..................lets hope its the right answer................if so would recommend doing brake fluid front and rear BEFORE ROAD TEST :mfr_lol:
