Title: Vist to Biker Classic, Spa, Belgium
Post by: flatfour on June 23, 2013, 03:04:24 PM
I am leading a party of four to Spa for the Biker Classic in just under two weeks and would like to ask whether anyone knows if the WEARING of high vis vests is compulsory in Belgium (I am familiar with the French situation, where a vest must be carried and worn in case of breakdown).

Grateful for any advice, as we do not in particular want the vests flapping in the wind if it is not mandatory.

I have been visiting Belgium for the last ten years and have both spoken to local Police and ridden once with them and never has it been spoken about wearing high viz at all, I actually ride all the time but most of the others I ride with never wear them so I guess it's not compulsory.

Its not compulsory. I never bother wearing one although I do carry one in case of breakdown and I go to France and Belgium quite often.

Many thanks to you both for your help. We will stash them in the panniers then and retrieve only if the worst should happen (though, as the range of machinery is quite diverse, ranging from a 1970 Honda CB 750/4 to a Honda CB1100 bought new only two weeks ago, it might!). I will be on the GTR and my daughter, who usually rides pillion on overseas trips, is riding her own Honda NC700X out of the UK for the first time.
