Title: NEWBIE
Post by: kwakatlast on June 01, 2013, 03:42:45 AM
Hello all
Had a three hour test ride today courtesy of Wigan Kawasaki, and was blown away by the gtr! Been offered a decent deal, so looking to trade my not very old GS in next week for a shiny new green missile with the gt pack. Being vertically challenged it feels good to have both feet planted again  Having had mainly Hondas', this will be my first Kawasaki. Looking forward to chat and tapping the vast knowledge on the site, cheers!

:185: to this forum, where you will find great company and plenty advice, there's also a fair amount of piss taking, but all in the best possible taste.

You will love your GTR, its a very under-rated machine. I had a GS once but prefer not to talk about it too much  :mfr_lol:

Hi Kwakatlast  welcome to the forum, lots of banter, good craic.

Do you have permed hair and wear a shell suit by any chance ???   :mfr_lol: :mfr_lol:

One saving grace you are a northerner, the down side is the red rose, obviously the white rose is far superior  :mfr_lol:

Zedmeister, my days of having enough hair to perm are long gone, wash my hair the same time as my face now  and deff no shell suits!

Kwackatlast

At least you are a true Northerner. I am a Southerner who came up on missionary work when I met my wife.
But in my defence my kids are alos Northerners now and one lives in Merseyside.

Rippers

My good lady emigrated up North last year and is now an honorary Northerner! Squeezing her southern tones out of her bit by bit, day by day  Merseyside a great place to live!

Almost a Bog-dweller if you are in Scouseland.....

Anyway, true northerners are protected from the north west by the Pennines - god saw right to give us natural protection  :mfr_lol:

Anyway, welcome you Mancie Scouser..... :mfr_lol:

thanks for that Winston

I was based in Ripon for three years in the late 90's, my daughter was born in Horrogate, hope this helps my case to be a true Northerner  :ohplease:  :mfr_lol:

On that basis I am a Northerner.
Both my father and mother were brought up in Elland and Mum was born in Halifax Infirmary.
I was born in Germany (Dad was posted there) and have lived all over the UK (including Elland, Sandbach, Hamilton, Somerset, & Essex) as well as Sweden and Belgium.
Currently I have an Aunt who lives in Elland, cousins who live in Halifax & Barkisland and my Mum & Sister live in Harrogate.
Mum, Aunt & Cousins are all reet Yorkshire.
Dad lives in Luxembourg and my other sister in Brussels.

If we are talking culturally, then I am British (2 English grandparents, 1 Welsh, 1 Scottish).
If we are talking socially, then I am part of whatever part of the country/planet I happen to be in at the time.
Given a few weeks and I can even pick-up the local accent and dialect.
I don't consider myself a Northerner,... or a Southerner,..... or English or Belgian or German or whatever.
I am British, I am me.
I ride a 1400GTR and a GTR1000 and when asked where "Home" is I usually reply "where my heart is".
Currently it is physically located in Essex, but that can and has changed many times.

My personal anthem,......... Lerner/Loewe's "I was born under a wandering star", and I do prefer the Lee Marvin version.  :cowboy:

Rusty

Sorry, don't get me wrong, as a one up bike I loved the GS and it's quirkiness, but most of my riding is two up and my better half hated it, found it to high getting on and off, and hated the vibey engine. To be honest, being a short arse I found it a bit top heavy with a passenger also, relly had to watch where I put my feet when stopping   Loved how torquey it was, and a great riding position. I made sure i took mrs out on test ride this time, so this one should be a keeper  :mfr_lol:

I visited Liverpool when it was the European capital of culture.  I parked my car and when I cam back, the wheels had gone and it was up on Books!

Welcome Kwackatlast; a northerner and ex-squaddie by the looks of it  :tank:

You know why the northerners are on here so much?

Naff all to do all day, unemployment, no sunlight, cold and rainy, the internet is their only form of entertainment, unlike us sexy southerners who have well paid jobs, sunlight all day and smooth roads to ride on.

I was crossing my fingers while typing that so it don't count.

I think it's time to start a new site; GTR1400.co.uk/north where we can exclude the soft, southern, morriss-dancing, bed-wetting, pram-pushing poofters from anywhere below Nottinghamshire. If you say bath like barth then you're barred!

In today's climate your right, but in the respect we southerners ride up to meet 100milesaway and OldeConey to ride with them tells you where we like to be. Down here the roads are crap, to busy, and boring.
