HI every one just a quick question has any one had a problem with paint flaking of the Exhaust and very rusty brake disks. I know we have had a hard winter but i would not expect this problem on a bike that is only 11 months old. Was going to approach Kawasaki to see about warranty work but thought i would put it out to the forum first will add pic in a bit as i up at silly o clock.

had exactly same problem on my 2011 gtr. approached my local dealers who did an inspection and agreed it was early corrosion of most metal parts. Kawasaki refused to do any work under warranty. Blamed me for impropper cleaning. the warranty aint worth the paper it is written on. poor quality. may i add i use acf50 on all metal bits (as recommended by k) but this hasnt stopped the corrosion, paint flaking etc. I gave up trying. wouldnt buy another kwack once i trade this in. shame as i love the bike

I don't agree.
there are many cases on here where owners have had very satisfactory response from their dealers and Kawasaki UK alike

That was one of the problems on the one I looked at in Peterborough dealers, only had done 200 miles, 12 plate. They said warranty claim.....screw that and I went elsewhere.
Just bin the pig ugly exhaust and change it :whistling:
I had a spot of flaking paint on my 2011 exhaust the size of my finger nail, took it to the dealer, Colin Appleyard's at Keighley they had a look and I believe they may have taken a photo and sent it to Kawasaki and the exhaust was exchanged without quibble. Excellent service from the dealer.
Just so you know they change the whole exhaust under warranty not just the damaged bit, the unit price is £600+ so its definitely worth resolving it through a Kawasaki dealer if the GTR is still covered by a warranty. I've had a few warranty claims through Kawasaki and on each time they have been honoured and the service has been brilliant from the dealer.

Must agree with Steve, I had paint flacking of the exhaust cover( silver bit) , my bike also had 2 shockers replaced due to the pre-load adjuster seizing. My dealer (MCO Wigan) handled the situation in a first class manner, and Kawasaki changed the offending parts with no quibble whatsoever. And in my case the service that I received from both manufacturer and dealer paid dividends for all three parties, as I have just bought a new bike from the same dealer, and the same manufacturer.
The brake disks on the other hand they may not cover.
They will claim that it has been parked outside throughout the salty winter and that has caused the rust, which is fair comment.
IIRC they are supposed to be Stainless steel discs but there's Stainless and stainless and I suspect they got batch of crap metal.
My 2012 GTR has flaking black paint top and bottom on the exhaust, and the Silver end is losing paint too now.
Am expecting Colchester Kawasaki to offer to replace the exhaust and the seized Suspension too.

i must agree on the comments on the grade / quality of stainless steel used for the kawasaki discs,i never get my bike wet if i can help it and is always kept clean,i got into a little shower of rain for about 3 mins ,on my way out a couple of weeks ago ,i turned staight back home and put the bike back in the garage, the next day i had rust starting on the discs, this was after only 400 miles total use from new,and previous to this the bike had never even been damp.the rust obviously comes off on the main part of the discs when you ride it but it takes a bit more effort to clean the awkward bits , but it does come off though.
Interesting, I've been caught out in the rain many times and I mean real heavy downpours sometimes travelling in the rain for hours and I've never had any visible rust on the discs even though I sometimes have a bad habit of just dumping the bike in the garage when I get home and washing it in a day or two when I have more time.
UK9876, have a look in this section at MAY12th titled 'No Not Again' ( suspension )
Well thats the issues been raised with Kawasaki in Kirkcaldy who will sent it off to MR K UK to see what they think of this rust bucket.
Looking at the pictures you should probably look after your bike a bit better.
Looks like it hasn't been cleaned and out in the elements since you got it.
No wonder it has turned into a rust bucket.
I am not as obsessed with cleaning like some members here, but if my bike would be that dirty I would be ashamed to post pictures of it.
And if I wanted to make a warranty claim for excessive rust, I would at least wash the salt off before I take it to the dealer.
Sorry UK but on this occasion I am with Mr Mecki .... Not saying your bike has to be pristine but it does look like its in a shit state and if you leave it like that bits will rust. Lets hope Mr Kawasaki is more understanding.
Got to agree the bike looks very unkept, the wheels are a disgrace.
I don't know if I'd say the wheels are a disgrace, the bike obviously gets used, that's what it's for. I can remember Asif's GTR, that got a wash once, maybe twice a year and I don't recall his discs being that rusty. I agree though that I would have given it a wash first before taking it to the dealer.
Guys I use my bike every day come rain shine snow the wheels where cleaned last week. She gets washed twice a week with muck off and a low power hose and is treated with anti corrosion spray. But living in scotland it was only last month they stopped putting salt down and this is when salt is at its most corrosive. I not sure the dealer would have been to impressed if I was washing the bike before I took it to the shop and I had to ride through a very heavy rain storm to get there hence why the bike looks its covered in crap.
No Excuse for it, we pay lots of money for our pride and joy, i have covered over 60,000 miles on all my GTRs and kept them in pristine condition, i too ride in all weathers but i make time to clean it within 24 hours. I make a paticular effort to clean it when i have to visit a dealer for work etc. My pet hate is seeing a long time dirty bike no need for it, its just down to idleness. UK9876 im not saying you are idle, but you could have made the effort to clean it.
The 60 mile ride in the rain to the dealer is why the bike is dirty. Like you I agree with washing the bike after a ride but I dont carry a bucket and hose when I go to the workshop so I can wash it round the corner.
Then You Need to see if you can fabricate a bucket holder this i am sure will help you see the error of your ways :mfr_lol: :mfr_lol:
Or maybe you could be less critical there is only 3 kawasaki dealers in scotland I not sure what else you could do !!!!!!!

Wait for a dry day ?? :mfr_lol: :mfr_lol:
I have to be honest now UK, my latest bike actually came from scotland ( paisley ) the previous owner actually swaped it for an R1 at chorley Yamaha. I was though very surprised to see the mudguard and front inner fairing quite stone chipped, so i do sympathise with you there.
Well mr k uk said he is happy to fit a new exhaust but the rust on the disks is just surface rust and will rub off. Does he not think I have tried that. So bike going to be deep cleaned and he can have an after picture that will show the same old rust. But on a honest note from people who use there bike in all weathers do you have disks like this or am I being over the top on it .

i personally dont get my bike wet and washing it is the last thing i would do,i only use waterless polish to keep it clean, but if you do need to wash your bike you could always fill your panniers with water they would make great water carriers, then no excuse to wash and keep your bike clean
UK ... Firstly I am glad to hear that Mr K is going to sort your exhaust ... and so he should.
My bike is used all year round to commute from Sussex Coast to Central London .. not EVERY day but 50% of the time all year all weathers and my discs don't look like that .. some of it may be surface rust but you may just be unlucky with a set that does not look so good when they have got wet. TBH I wouldn't worry too much and just enjoy the bike  .
Yep, main thing is the exhaust is going to get exchanged.
There ya go uk9876, the Kawasaki warranty does work...a good result I'd say
