i've had my 12 plate gtr1400 for about 14 month's now,i decided to take a ZZR1400 out today for a test ride,one word describe's it WOW !!!!!!!
Come on Tapps ... MORE details ! From Alfs ? Where did you take it and how long did they let you have it for ?
Px ing on the horizon ?
Ok, we're gonna have to set some serious ground rules about people trading in the GTR's for ZZR's, :2guns:
Personally I quite like the big BMW but I'd never tell anyone. :whistling:

yes it was indeed from ALF'S worthing,i took there demo the limited edition out for about i hour,i need to take one out for a few hour's,i was amazed by the feel of it,the power & how it handled,if i'd have taken the zzr out instead of the gtr when i did 14 month's ago, i'd have had one.the p/x value offered on my 12 plate gtr1400 with 6.200 on the clock was £8.500,which meant adding another £3.400,there's a kwaka dealer near southampton so i'll call in there, see what they offer.
hi tapps if you are after a good deal try orrel in wigan, bought my zzr 1441 from them, i just sent pics of my busa to them,no other dealer could get anywere near a good a deal as they offered me, they collected my busa and delivered the new 1441,my local dealer was a £1000 dearer.i am going to wigan next week (weather permitting )for them to carry out my first service. two kwacks put me onto them,if you contact them mention they were were reccomended to you from the gtr forum by us,they dont mind a bit of price haggaling good luck in your sehttp://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/151035181421?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2648arch,let us know how you do.

loved the GTR  but zzr1441 is just simple "outstanding" to say the least..! dose everything the GTR dose and everything a supersport dose  you could say, its the best of both worlds
i have a scotland trip 1st week in august, may put off looking till that's done.

Mecki the ZZR is a tourer, there is an option to have it fitted with hard luggage just like the GTR. Theres a lad on YouTube who has been touring many parts of the world on a Honda C90 or something equally bizarre. Anythings a tourer if you want it to be.

Just because you want your donkey to be a horse doesn't make it one! :mfr_lol:
I'm with Mecki on this.
On that basis a Ducati 996SP is a tourer. You can bolt panniers to that too.
The ZZR has a chain  has a riding position only suited to those under 5'10" and under 14 stone  and last but not least it eats rear tyres.
The whole point of a tourer is that the bike is comfy for all day rides.
I'd love a ZZR but realistically after 50 miles I'd be in agony.
Chain drive is such a faff. I doubt if I'll ever go back, unless I win the lottery.
Besides the GTR isn't a tourer, its a sports tourer.
It's designed to ride to the Alps/Pyrenees on the motorway, then get up the next morning, leave the panniers in the hotel room, screen down and go play silly :censored: in the twisties.
Tourers are Goldwings & Victory Visions and K1200LTs and the like and would be awesome on the motorways but dull in the twisties.
The ZZR would be awesome in the twisties but agony on a 700 miles in a day trip from Calais to the Alps/Pyrenees.
I don't think the ZZR would be that good on the twisties in all honesty.
Good bike, no doubt, and can tour, but as you say George, not a sport tourer per se. Hyper bike maybe?
Good for longish distances on open roads, but too big to be nimble (awaits a slating now......)
I do think Sport Tourers such as GTR/K16/RT etc are better on twisties due to their higher/wider bars

You are right of course, but the ZZR doesn't fit into that category either.
I'd say it's not an as-well-as but rather a neither-nor. :whistling:
What's the use having a bike with so much horsepower if the maximum speed limit is 70 mph anyway? :ohplease:
WINSTON.. quote.. I don't think the ZZR would be that good on the twisties in all honesty..... WRONG!!!!

what the point of having a 1400 gtr with 150 bhp capable of 150 mph when the limit is 70 m.p.h, just because you have something extra doesn't mean you need to use it  not all zzr1400 owners bought their zzr1400 to go get near the 200 mph mark :nono: I never.. I bought the zzr1441 because I like the look of it and for the acceleration and the fact it tours and handles with ease  I'm not interested in top speed
I've had the 2010 gtr1400 for 2 years and toured the French and swiz alps and Italy and coverd 3,000 miles in 8 days also toured cornwall, scotland, and the gtr is the best tourer on the market for the price  I've also toured the French and swiz alps and Italy on my previous 2008 zzr1400 and that also toured as good as the gtr but handled the twisties a dam sight better  boomer is right when he says the zzr1400 is not for tall or pot bellied or for pie eater riders  the zzr1400 or the new zzr1441 is excellent at touring and the twisties and the zzr1441 comes into its own when you want to smack some others bikes or super car owners arse at the lights

Dave, was I slightly right then when I said the ZZR is a tourer? :whistling:
hi guys i have just swopped my 62 plate zzr1400 for a gtr . yes they are fast and handle the twisties but loading them with panniers &top box is not recommended by kawasaki as i found out . the dealer who sold me it said you can so i had a top box fitted by them . later i went to get panniers and was told by a local dealer that kawasaki dont do a set with atop box guess what . a whole new set up from givi would have to be fitted . apart from that the bike is brilliant but you need bar risers under 50 ish your wrists kill you then you need a double bubble screen cos you are in the w(excuse my grammar) anyway enjoy your zzr cheers john
by the way the dealer was alan at millenium motorcycles, which is also motor cycle centre orrell and preston superbikes
Surely I'm not the only one to have solved this difficult conundrum........by buying both :mfr_lol:
I have even heard the GTR called A Hyper Tourer. Both marques are extremely good at what they do, you pays you money and takes your choice.
We have 6 horses ( 2 are shetland ponies for the grandkids ) 3 are eventing horses and 1 is an X race horse, the 3 eventers can jump fences of all kinds, have the stamina to do a 6000mtr course the race horse cant do any jumping at all, he can trott the 6000mtr course, but get all 4 into a gallop and the race horse leaves the others as though they are standing still. As the saying goes, Horses for courses.
2kwaks - I did say I would await the slating......
I think the ZZR is a brilliant bike, but I have seen one tackle Stelvio one year and the same rider, having traded (up?!!) to a GTR found the GTR much easier on such 'twisties'
ZZR is very capable, all I'm saying is horses for courses and personal preference
Zed, now you've got me intrigued.....how would the Shetland ponies fare then against the ex racehorse do they ever try to keep up....even for a short while.

 your not  I owned both the zzr1400 and the GTR1400 at the same time  my 2008 df8 zzr1400 which I done 9,400 miles on and my 2010 gtr1400 which I done 7,900 miles on. so I'm speaking through past experience on owning and riding both bikes  anyone who hasn't toured long distance on the zzr1400 or hasn't put the zzr1400 through it's paces on the twisties are not really in a position to comment on it's touring and handling abilities

it depends on the rider  I've always owned a middle weight super sport as a second bike, so where you find the more upright riding position to be better on the twisties, I find the more sport riding position to be better  my most recent middle weight super sport was a 2012 zx6r ninja with the new showa front forks and had various other improvements over the previous zx6r model, and the 2012 zx6r was a very sweet precise handling bike  but I find the zzr1441 very easy and to be just as good on the twisites, the zzr1441 is so well balance you don't even noticed the weight difference when the bike is moving  but you sure as hell noticed the difference when the power is wound on

the zzr1441 comes into its own when you want to smack some others bikes or super car owners arse at the lights
And that really sums it up quite nicely what a ZZR is only good for. :whistling:
But since I don't feel the urge for drag racing at the lights I rather ride my GTR all day in a comfortable upright position, have plenty of torque and more then enough top speed for the Autobahn while it's surprisingly nimble even around tight corners on twisty mountain passes.
OK it is not designed for racing but I don't think that's a good thing to do on public roads anyway.
IMHO the GTR is a good bike for normal every day or weekend use (even though I wouldn't buy one if that's all I wanted a bike for) and brilliant when it comes to long distance touring and since I don't have a car shopping as well.
I get plenty of miles out of a rear tyre with a good range and fuel economy, I can carry loads of luggage and have no messy chain to look after.
And best of all I don't have a stiff neck, no aching wrists, knees and back at the end of a 8 or 10 hour tour. :hammer:

You don't race the little ones, only if you want to be shaken to pieces. I tell you one thing though they are the boss when it comes to territory, if the big boys are in their patch they will chase them off no problem. i would rather tackle a 750kg piece of pure muscle than a 200kg stroppy shetland any day.
With full Givi side pannier pack I have taken the ZZR from London to Bosnia Herzegovinia and back in 10 days, and from the Pyrenees through South of France, the Alps, Black Forest and back in 8 days and at :oops:6ft tall, never ever had a problem with aching wrists, bad back or stiff neck.......but the one bike the rozzers got me on was the GTR......
dURHHH.
I have never ridden the ZZR but today I ferried myself upwards of 160 miles on the GTR on both A roads and yes a M road and just one car came past me, plenty quick enough for me to "progress safely" as I did.
But, a mate of mine has just bought one brand new and when the novelty has worn off I an going to get myself a ride on it, but no way am I changing to one as nothing (IMHO) can be as nice and quick as the GTR.

just had my 1441 in for its first service to day at mcc orell wigan, really impressed with there service ,they are an excellent dealer, they could not have been more helpful and relaible.best dealer i have ever used,i travelled there as i had an issue to sort out ,which they did no problem at all. rode 182 miles to orrel and 182 miles back, no aching wrists , no back ache , no aching arms, only had a numb arse on the way back but no worse than it was on my old gtr ,saddles are the same i think. after running in the bike for 734 miles i had forgot how good the 1441 engine really is , so much torque and blistering acceleration with a silky smooth delivery, really enjoyed my ride back as i can now open the throttle a bit more.

Same here !!
You can (I have) tour with panniers and topbox on a ZZR.
it is great fun in the twisties (tho'not as good as a Blade/GSXR etc).
I am nearly 6ft and 25st and I do still fit on the ZZR but the GTR is much more comfortable and better suited to touring but I just cant give up the ZZR.
Every time I grab the throttle and feel the thrust (up to 70 mph just alongside Mecki!!!!!) I know I need to keep this bike

Well, just the other day coming back from Alston I had one of those closing in on the straight.
To be able to do that he must have been going well over since I didn't hang about.
In the first corner I could still see him in my mirror and thought to myself, if he leans that much I must be looking :shit: hot.
But after the second bend he just disappeared and never managed to catch up again. :mfr_lol:

and!!! he may have stopped for a fag or a break or could have been a :shit: rider :undecided: but seriously thou!! your missing my point here, I've never said or never will say the GTR is not as good as the ZZR. in fact, I never said the ZZR can tour better than the GTR either, I simple said the ZZR can tour just as good and in my opinion.. I also said, it handles just as good as super sport dose. I've owned in the past 2x cbr600, 1x gsxr600, 1x zx636, 2x zx6r, zx7r and also the latest model 2012 zx6r with the new revised showa forks, I'm not a mad rider on our busy roads :nono: but I do like to get a move on when safe to do so and I found my previous 2008 zzr1400 and my present zzr1441 just as easy to chuck around as any of the above super sports. you or others on the other hand!! may not suit the ZZR 1400 it's not every ones "cup of tea" but it fits me like a glove. I've toured over 3,250 miles around the French and swiz alps and Italy. I done the same trip and miles in 8 days in 2010 on my 2008 ZZR1400 and again in 2012 on my 2010 GTR1400 on both bikes and after 8 hours riding every day, I only had a sore :shit: box  didn't have sore wrists, back, legs on either bike  just a aching :shit: box on both the ZZR and the GTR, but did find the ZZR to be more fun in the alps. but I'm more use to the sport riding position than the touring bike position, also I always ride and tour solo  so only require a tail pack and a bagster tank bag for my clobber, "so why use a sledge hammer to knock a tack in" P.S don't read anythink in to that last statement  so this may explain why I prefer the ZZR. so just to re-cap.. I tour and ride solo, prefer the sportier riding position to the GTR, prefer the better handling, prefer the way it looks, and prefer the extra power on acceleration  ok, the bad points are the ZZR1400 eats back tyres like their going out of fashion if your heavy with your right hand to much :whistling:  but I've come to the conclusion that "one" can't have every think in this life  but you can have a ZZR1441 Ho!  P.s hope this clears up any misunderstanding between theses 2 excellent machines
