Title: MRA Screen
Post by: Ant on April 22, 2013, 06:42:28 PM
Im sure this topic has been covered several times before, but just wondered if anyone has the MRA maxi screen fitted, and does it make a big difference, or what screen is best as the one that's on at the moment is shite......

Also, is it possible to buy passenger pegs off the shelf or is this one for my workshop mod ?

Thanks Ant

Hi Ant,
I have the maxi screen, and its not bad, but still not perfect. I still have a bit of wind noise and a little buffeting, but it is an improvement from stock I feel. The screen is vented, which reduces the difference in pressure between the front and the back of the screen, which reduces the feeling of being sucked towards the screen when its fully up. I think the front of the bike feels more stable when the screen is fully up on the motorway compared to stock too.
I would say that the x screen might be worth a punt, as this should improve things further.
Hope this helps,
Cheers,
Mark

Hi Ant, I'm 6'1" and find that the Laminar Lip that I have fitted to my standard screen works fine for me. I should say though that I don't like to be in a wind free cocooned environment when riding as I reckon that some buffeting etc is all part of riding a bike.

The standard screen on a 2010 and after model GTR is slightly larger than previous models, I don't know which model GTR you have.

As for passenger foot pegs the standard pegs from an Er6 F (Faired) or maybe ER6 N (Naked) will swap straight onto the rear of the GTR, however they are somewhat expensive to buy new, so look out for some on fleabay, these pegs don't lower the pegs though, but do have a rubber covering, I have some from a ZZR on mine and they work fine but do not swap straight over, as they require some modification to fit.

Hi Guys, thanks for the replies.

I've ordered the MRA maxi so will let you know the result.

I am comparing to the FJR as that has the MRA Vario screen on and actually goes upwards more and still looks good on the bike.

The issue I have with the pegs is for the Mrs getting on and off in the wet and possibly slipping, pretty poor design for a tourer IMO.

The bike seems to be 2011 but registered May 2012 due to the colour.

Yep, your bike would already have the taller screen as standard Ant

I found this picture of the pillion pegs I had on a previous GTR, they also act as a lowering kit and are FJR pegs. available from here...

These are the ZZR variety that I have fitted on my current GTR they don't lower the pillion pegs but are rubber covered so are safer for your pillion

OC, Yeah, those pegs are the bees' knees for a pillion. Agree with Ant. It is the Kawasaki flagship and being a tourer they should do more for comfort & safety for the pillion. The standard pegs are just so unsafe for anyone that has anything more than a young teen's feet!.

Not bothered about them pegs being lowered as the Mrs only 5 foot nothing, perhaps an auto lift may help !! :mfr_lol:

I will get some ZZR ones ordered, cant say ive seen any on bayflea though.

Hi Ant, those ones are a different design to mine however they should fit.

I've searched everywhere for the receipt for my ones and can't find it, so cant say those are exactly the same as mine.

With mine I had to 'do away' with the spring clip facility which holds the pegs up out of the way when they are not in use, and opt for a bolt through with nylock nut to attach them to the bike, which means that they still fold up without any problem and stay up depending on how tight they are secured...I hope that makes sense

I think I've got some installation pics and will try and find them so that you can see.

For the money I don't think that you've much to lose ordering those ones as I feel confident that they will fit and certainly be safer and more comfy

BTW I agree KHI should really fit something like this as O.E on a bike of this quality

here's some pics Ant, sorry about the quality

original fitment plate, pin, spring ball bearing etc, the original plate was reused as a spacer, pin and 'C' clip replaced with bolt and nylock nut

I had completely forgotten about that   :embarrassed:

As I hace now sold the rubber covered pegs I reckon the spacers went with the pegs to their new owner

Hi, Sorry for the late reply, been in France... :mfr_lol:

MRA screen in my opinion could do with being bigger.
You get wind noise above 70 and you can see the screen flapping slightly above that, if a screen is required where you don't want noise or the wind hitting your helmet, this is not for you.
im 5'9 with 1 3/4 inch risers fitted to the bike and ride fast when abroad and i get by without ear plugs on short runs, so i guess it works to some degree...hope this helps

Ant, I use the standard screen, the wind noise is way to excessive even with ear plugs, I had a MRA flip on my last bike so instead of replacing the screen, I just bought the top flip. You can get them with bolt on hinges and clamp on ones, so I went for the clamp on ones because I could take them off if it didn't work.

But it works fantastic, no noise, no buffeting, just comfort.
