Title: mph to kph
Post by: howard on April 22, 2013, 03:42:15 PM
Hi Guys, I have a UK bike here in France so it has a UK speedo with MPH on the outer ring and KPH on the inner, what I want is a overlay that converts the MPH to KPH. I can only find overlays the other way round...Any ideas...H

You have 2 scales on the speedo. Why do you need an overlay?

50Kph = 30Mph
70Kph = 40Mph
90Kph = 60Mph
I rarely look at the Kph on the speedo.

Or you could fit one of these

When were abroad racing around we treat the kph signs as mph signs, works for me.

Do that in Norway and you can even stay here longer then planned and for free to. I have heard that the food in jail is not to bad here to.

And you can tell the difference on the GTR speedo?  :ohplease:
When abroad I use my Zumo 550 switched to display km/h - digital display and more accurate too.  :yes:

5miles over in a 90 km/h zone will give you a £180 fine, so its good to be able to tell the difrence

50Kph = 31.06856Mph
70Kph = 43.49598Mph
90Kph = 55.92341Mph
100Kph = 62.13712Mph

If you want to be REALLY pedantic about it.  :mfr_lol:

When abroad I do 30Mph in the 50Kph limits, 45 in the 70s and 60 in the 90s.
Better yet, drive faster than almost everyone else and you'll be fine.
Once you add in your speedo error you are more than likely to riding at the speed limit.
Or, as Mecki suggests, set your GPS to Kph and use that. It's far more accurate than the speedo in any case.

I've ridden 250,000Km on the mainland and only ever got close to being busted once when after crossing into Belgium I just accelerated straight back up to the 140Mph I'd been doing on the German Autobahn. The Gatso took my picture but they'd set it up wrong and it didn't get my whole number plate in the pic. Was back in the mid 80s so I contested it and they dropped the charge.
