Title: Top marks for Top Sellerie seat
Post by: mecki on April 15, 2013, 05:04:44 PM
Having just come back from my first major tour to the South of France with my new Top Sellerie seat http://www.topsellerie.com/ I can give it top marks for comfort.
Being flatter and wider than the stock seat there was hardly any discomfort even after a 9 hr 600 mile ride.
It was definitely £180 well spent and I can recommend them wholeheartedly.
And it looks a lot better than the rather dull seat Mr K put on.

I ordered one of their Specials and think it is a Type 1 deluxe seat.
At the moment they are selling them for €158 (plus postage) which is a real bargain.
It is slightly lower than the stock seat.
Delivery was only a couple of days.

I posted a picture on another thread after I got it last autumn and it looks just like Bryn's.

Got mine pre -loved off here. so not sure of the model, but if it looks just the same as Mecki's it probably is ....

I'm 5.9" tall with an inside leg under 30" and don't find the seat height an issue, and it doesn't seem much different from the standard one, so I'm sure it hasn't been lowered

thanks guys for the help, ive just ordered the deluxe type 1 seat which is on offer at E186 euros plus 24e postage. As its an instock seat it comes with already built colours which is ok for me. If they dont recieve your old seat back within 45 days they debit your card with an additional 78e, which sounds fairy nuf . I may not send mine back as if i take out the postage costs i will incur im gonna get more than that on ebay. Id never sell my original seat but i do have about 3 old seats ive been buying up over the last 3 years that ive been modifing with heated pads ect.

will post up when it comes

Hi Viper, what did you do regarding the heated pads, do you have any info / pics.
I don't really need one, but know someone who does!

Cheers,
Mark

I put a detailed thread on another forum of the installation and the pads I used , so check this link . pictures of the installation on page 4 and then a link further into the thread, Im still using the seat , its amazing in terms of heat , actually keeps you lower body warm as ell, but the seats comfort is not right for me in the summer when abroad, so with the top sellrie seat ive now got a winter and summer seat

this will be my fourth seat on this bike so if it gets the viper thumbs up then it must be good

cant report back for a few weeks as the bike is off the road at the moment

I purchased Nige's Top Sellerie seat and yes it is firmer, wider and thicker than rock and boy what a difference, excellent comfort all round, best purchase for my bike so far.

well, after a six hour ride on this new seat i can confirm thats its very good. Its the 4th custom seat ive had on this bike so it suits my fussy arse. Id still use my Airhawk seat on the longhaul stuff , ie the 12 hour ride i did to prague

my old seat that they wanted back , i sold seperately on ebay for £140 and they have just charged me about £65 for failing to return my stock so the maths

seat and postage was approx £190
failed stock seat return was    £65

stock seat on ebay                £140
ebay charges ,paypal           £14

total cost of new seat was          £129

Well, as I've just caught up and read this thread Viper has just convinced me to get one, I have just ordered one, meant to do it before but other things put it out of my mind.

I paid for the base straight, so no need to worry about an extra charge, cost for seat, base and including shipping = 268 euro, won't know my credit card exchange rate for a few days yet.

Will post again when it arrives, would love it to be here for Sunday as there's a big Charity run on here, for Children's Hospice which I would like to attend, but we'll see.

Well must say I'm impressed with the service from Top Sellerie, ordered my seat on Monday night and received it today, Friday.

Took a few images to show comparisons with original.

Apologies to anyone who already has one as this will be of no interest to you but to anybody considering buying one this may be of interest....

Can understand the packaging material but it doesn't half make a mess of your clothes etc, so open the box outside...

This is my topside, I went for the tarty one with GTR lettering, maybe I should have got a plain one as if it fits ZZR's as well it would be easier to sell when I'm done but hay ho....

Can't believe how much you have to pay for something like a Corbin or Sargent seat... when you can get one of these babies a lot cheaper... and its probably the most comfortable bike seat I've ever had

PS is your garden the same width as your house   :1eye:

Great looking seat, it looks to be a wee bit higher than the standard seat, is that so, or maybe its just more squashy for yer arse

BTW when you come to sell it if you want to attract ZZR owners simply stick some Grey/Black Gaffa tape over the GTR logo and write 'ZZR' on it with felt tip........they'll never notice  :mfr_lol: :mfr_lol:

LOL, worth a try... it's definitely a little bit higher, that's the reason why I took pics with the panel fence in the background as a reference to check the height profile, looks a lot nicer than the standard seat and better finish cover so happy with it, but the proof will be in the road test, as soon as I can get out.

I don't think they make the bases themselves but mainly use pre-loved original seats instead.
OK they will need to buy some new bases since not everybody returns their old seat but why else would they offer you money for your old seat if they manufacture the whole thing themselves?

They made my base as it's molded into the seat "Top Sellerie".

They may not make all of them but mine definitely appears to be their own , it's also thicker than the original base.. will try to get a better pic of it tomorrow if I can.

Took the bike out for a proper test of seat today, it was a charity run for the Children's hospice, over 140miles and think the seat is an improvement over the standard but it gets minus points for it's pillion friendliness according to number 1 son.

Problem seems to be the forward angle of the pillion seat, every time I hit a bump in the road, which over here is a lot, or I braked he would slide forward, which was cramping me up in the riders seat too. I never had him onboard with the standard seat on so don't know if it's solely a problem with this seat.

That said I don't take him out very often so the fact that the seat is more comfortable for me is more important.

Here's a pic of use at a rest stop in Glenariff Forest park, bikes were strung out all over the place on the road so it was impossible to get them all together at the same time for a pic.

Funny thing though.... if there was 1 ZZR there was half a dozen of them, but mine was the only GTR, not that it was getting many second glances..  :undecided:

I've had my Top Sellerie for 2 weeks now but due to sciatica have not been able to ride.
That is now starting to ease (Thank  :censored: for that) so hoping to go for a ride next weekend or may take the bike to work this week.
Mine is identical to alibx11's but mine has the step further back due to me being a lanky git.

:mfr_lol: So you're heavy on the brakes and/or your son suffers from the it-is-gross-to-touch-a-parent syndrome.
I don't think that any seat can cure one or the other.  :mfr_lol: :mfr_lol:

Thanks Bryn,

The Mrs likes the room she has, but yes, can slide a little under heavy braking. The tribo cover does the trick to sort that but then spoils the look of the seat, so working on that at the min.

BTW they also did the tank bag delivered, cheaper than anyone selling baglux here...

You can watch some footage on the tube, just put in Normandy trip pt3. Quality not brill on that camera as it was only 40 quid but better on the 50 quid camera facing forward     :mfr_lol:

Thanks for the tips. My Mrs puts it down to maybe the mixture of clothing she wears, cotton jeans under textile over suit causing her to move inside the suit. My answer was for her to pass her test and get her own bike, but not the answer she wanted. ha ha.

:mfr_lol: You could be right there Mecki...

Took the other half out on Sunday and she had no complaints, did over 100 miles and she wasn't sliding about as much as my son, saying that she is a bit heavier and the friction might have been a bit more to help keep her planted a bit better.

She did say that her  :asshole: was sore when we got home but that wasn't anything to do with me.

Still think I would use my sheepskin cover for long journeys though.

But definitely a great  improvement over the stock seat.

Mine is good but not that good.
Better than the OEM seat but nowhere near enough support for my fat arse.
Currently doing two 60 mile 1hr15min commutes every day and by the end of each run I am starting to fidget.
Not as good as I hoped it would be, and no I didn't expect it to get anywhere near the Russell.
However it is better than the OEM which has me fidgeting after 30 mins.

It may not apply to everyone, but I recently discovered that the underwear you have on can make a huge difference to how comfy you are on the bike........
It seems in my case that the boxer leg part is pulling the hairs on my legs and I tend to fidget after about a 50 miles, shuffling on the seat trying to get comfy.......so the last trip to Normandy.......budgie smugglers   :mfr_lol:

Bingo...............3 hours to tunnel, no problem. 6 hours to B&B from Calais, no problem. Total 640 miles in one hit with about an hour for fuel and fag stops and still went for a blast when there......

Now if wearing boxers I roll them right up....

Sorry for sharing that with you..... :mfr_lol: :mfr_lol:
