Not exactly the Merlin powerplant and soundtrack, but who cares.
Cant get the pics to load , but i know of this plane, they are amazing and the v8 sounds very similair to the old v12 merlin when in full chat on a low flyby. 120k is actually a very good price and they dont often come onto the market, made in france i think.
WOW ! that is a stunning plane
or why not splash out and have a new one...... I suppose if you need to ask the price you won't be buying!

No Problem Cheque will do, alternatively the deeds to your house maybe ?????, i can pay you back over the next couple of mileniums---- Honest Guv.
You'd think for that sort of money you'd get summat a bit more modern!
Quote... and the v8 sounds very similair to the old v12 merlin when in full chat on a low flyby.
Absolutely NO WAY. :nono:
NO. :nono:
NOT. :nono:
NEGATIVE. :nono:
NOTHING sounds like a Merlin engine when in full chat on a low flyby.
Especially two of them on a Mosquito...

I've never had the opportunity to compare the sounds referred to
BUT I have heard a Spitfire flying past at relatively close quarters and the sound is absolutely amazing
OK, this is the Spitfire made from a Kit (possibly like that referred to by Patrick) with the V8 engine:

And this is the proper one with the Merlin V12...

Absolutely no contest (in terms of the sound)
The only sound out there to compare with the Merlin (Supercharged 27 litre V12) is the Griffon (Supercharged 37 litre V12).
2 Merlins in a Mosquito can be beaten by the sound of 4 Griffons in a Lancaster, but for that fast flyby thrill it's a Spitfire Merlin every time for me.
Hmmm... I believe the Lancaster also used Merlins. But the Shackleton used Griffons.
I could be wrong though...
I agree that a low level Spitfire with a Merlin going over your head makes a fabulous sound. I only have very distant memories of that though from airshows years ago and the odd Youtube video...
Must upgrade my PC speakers... :mfr_lol:
Oooh - I just found a Spitfire with a Griffon engine on it! It's got a 5 blade prop, and rotates in the opposite direction, apparently... It too sounds awesome - but the sound is definitely different...

I can remember watching the Red Bull Air Race a couple of years ago, i believe there were a few of the american planes, i think they were mustangs ( please correct me if i am wrong ) and they sounded awesome, as the spitfire -- would make the hairs on the back of your neck stand up.
Nutters doing 400mph at 50 foot.
Yup the P51 Mustang sported a Merlin engine too
The Red bull air races use some more modern stuff though like the Zivko Edge 540 or Corvus Racer. Usually they come with Lycoming engines.
I don't know what you have to smoke to do those kind of air races... But I want some
i did say similair sound , not better, the average joe would think it was a real spitfire
