Title: Side Stand Sensor
Post by: PCPeteUK on April 09, 2013, 08:00:38 AM
Hi Guys,
another silly one from me
I know that when the side stand is down and you select 1st the engine will die. Is there a sensor from the clutch the overrides this action? There was on my wing but when i tried on the GTR the engine still died.

I was wondering if I may have a dirty contact somewhere in the sensor?

No Pete, with the side stand down your GTR should not remain running when you engage gear, nor will it start when in gear and side stand down, its a safety related thing.

Thanks for that - said it was a silly question. Now I have to find another reason to play in the garage today or the long haired general will find me something to do  :nono: (week off from work and it's raining!!)

- if you pull in the clutch , the bike will start and run in 1st gear ....

- edit : yeah , it doesn't answer your question. U wanted to know whether with the clutch pulled in and the side stand down , whether the bike can start ?

- i checked the manual and apparently it won't start (nor run).

- some of the US guys make a habit of killing their engines by putting down their sidestands whilst in 1st gear with the clutch pulled in

I think its a very good thing, that way your bike cannot roll off its stand on a slope as has been reported too many times on here

:agree:

Better to leave it in gear, it prevents somebody passing by and kick motor from stand.... hm.... at least that was case for 170 kg bike I had before. For this 310 kg I am not quite sure can it be accidentally pushed from stand

Well I can start mine with the stand down - I quite often do to warm it up whilst I'm still faffing about putting helmet, gloves on and fiddling around in the top case...

Then when I hop onto it, I occasionally forget to flip the stand up when I select 1st gear and the bike stops... I feel like a prat, fire it up again and off I go :)

You can, as many have found out and most of you have realised start the bike on the sidestand. You quite rightly, cannot start the bike on the sidestand whilst in gear

absolutelycorrect coman, its all very straight forward  :ohplease:

To ride a bike with the side stand down is potentially life threatening !!!!!
