Title: Tps low battery warning.
Post by: tapps on April 08, 2013, 07:33:20 AM
I left West Sussex on Sunday morning, there was a hard frost it was -5,shortly after the ( TPS low battery) warning came up,it was visible for a few minutes then went.will this be a warranty replacement or will it cost me.they may say its wear & tear,my gtr is just about a year old.

They don't seem to like the cold   :undecided:

You've always got the warranty if it keeps happening .. The batteries will be covered while it's in warranty I believe. They allegedly should last at least 3 years

Hey Bryn, I think that there is a problem with the sensors in the cold.  I am on my fourth sensor (bike just over one year old) all being replaced under warranty and even swapped between front and rear.  The last one was brand new and shipped from Japan but still had problems with the cold.  They are currently with Mr K who is trying to work out what is wrong with them, if anything.

Hopefully when the weather warms up the problem will disappear but it's a pain having the warning flashing rather than seeing what you want to.

Hi there,

I had mine replaced under warranty last march.  Rear battery going again!!!  May be the cold but don't expect them to last long and expect to pay £200 + to replace them.

Wether its  in a torch or your car no battery likes the cold, some more so than others.
My front TPS has been warning me for the last 3 years

This is due to the electron and protons movement becoming slower in very low temperatures, vastly reducing the amount of electronegative energy levels, thus the receptors in the TPS activate the low power warning (battery warning)....:-)

I thought the mini hamster in the wheel, inside the battery, just ran slower in the cold weather....

Batteries use a chemical reaction to produce electricity.
When it is colder, the chemical reaction runs slower so it doesn't produce enough electrons.
When it warms up it's fine.
I've had the TPS warnings on mine for the last 2 winters but they are still working nearly 6 years after they were fitted at the factory. Vivian celebrates her 6 years with me on the 5 August 2013. :-)

Tapps, I've got my bike booked in for a service this coming Monday. I mentioned to them that the front TPS warning is being displayed briefly when I first set off on cold days and that this has just started. No quibble, didn't even want to see the warning displayed simply said its a warranty claim and they would sort it with Kawasaki. They are now going to fit a new sensor at the same time as the service is completed on Monday.

Interestingly the dealer said that the batteries are supposed to last approximately 5 years however they can be a couple of years old when they even get fitted to the bike, (shocking if that's true), hence they may appear to fail rather quickly, even on new bikes.

Speak to your dealer, the cost of a new sensor is just under £300, or free under warranty, no brainier, get them contacted.
