Title: Transponder Cases
Post by: KeVstrom on April 05, 2013, 11:21:08 PM
Can you get replacement transponder cases, or maybe even a blank key for the case too? Mines a bit chewed up, theres a chunk missing out of the plastic casing of the key like someones had a go at with with a screwdriver instead of pulling the release catch! And then theyve used the same blunt screw driver to open up the case to change the battery.

Proper butcher job! :hammer:

Ive check ebay with no joy. Is this a part dept jobbie?

I dont know if you can get a fob from anywhere.. You could ring these guys as they have broken a GTR and may still have the fob

http://www.promotorcyclesalvage.co.uk/index.php

Other than that the cost of a new one is a lot.

That type of security related parts item is deliberately priced high to deter would be thieves from copying/obtaining them.

It's the same with cars......looks like you'll have to put up with the one you've got Kev or bite the bullet and buy new

You could also try these folk as they often have bikes which are being salvaged and may have a fob

Kev, I'm not sure that the outer casing alone will be available, I think it might come as a complete part

Debs is right ~ it looks like part # 21175A is what you need (Control Elec unit) £253.30...ouch

Ive found mine doesnt feel securely clipped together, the 2 halves that is, and the internal PCB just falls out if it seperates, which isnt the best thing. I keep mine on a lanyard around my neck for easy access to my alarm fob and security keys. Its not like i can glue it together either. May have to resort to some blue tak.

How about sliding a bit of heatshrink over it then shrink it with a bit of gentle heat..... or the old fashioned method of a bit of electrical tape?

do you have credit card insurance...  like C.C.P card protection? if so they also cover lost or damaged keys and fobs  when my fob was damaged I just claimed for a new fob and key and for it to be programmed. excellent service just sent them the receipt  and they sent a cheque within a week for the full invoice price

Geoff you've misunderstood what I was suggesting  if he replaces his fob now. then in a few months or so it's either lost or damaged again   he will need to pay out again   but if he buys the C.C.P card insurance he gets all his credit cards covered, car fobs and keys, bike fobs and keys, house keys, passports. e.t.c including the cost of an emergency locksmith to change all the house locks should all house keys be lost or stolen  I've had this cover for years now from C.C.P card protection, and if you buy the cover for 3 years I'm sure it only cost me £90.00 for 3 years cover and there is no limit on how many times you can claim on the policy and includes accidental damage and when you think of how much it would cost to replace car fobs, bike fobs passports e.t.c not to mention the cost to replace all the locks with keys for all the house if a bunch of house keys where to be lost or stolen.. then it's a no brainer.
P.S  is it a scouse thing that made you think the worst of me!!  :mfr_lol:

it's been around for years  just google  "C.C.P credit card protection" any problems let me know and I will dig my policy out! but it's offerd even when you apply for a credit or debit card  just make sure your own vehicle insurance/house insurance dose not cover lost keys/fobs or replacing house keys and locks before you buy!
