Hi, I have the 2012 released here in Australia. The ZG1400CC. Owner's manual (Part number 99986-1655) describes rear tyre dimensions as a 190/50ZR17, and that matches the crappy rubber (BT021) that comes on the bike. Why then on the US web site (www.motorcyclenews.com) describe the 2010-current bikes as requiring a 190/55ZR17, while their reviews of the pre-2010 describe the spec as a 190/50ZR17. Is it a typo, or does the US version really get a 190/55ZR17 and why would there be a difference?.
- everyone gets 190/50/17
.
Stock rear tyre size is 190/50ZR17.
Many of the Yanks prefer the 190/55ZR17 as it makes the bike slightly more flickable and corrects the +10% speedo error.
Either will do. I am considering trying the 55 at my next rear tyre change.
Boomer is correct :agree:
Sometimes there are spec differences in different countries

The specs are the same. Some owners are changing to a different tire profile on their own.

Read the same.. I'll be going for a 55 next too
Would there be enough clearance with the 55 if you have a hugger fitted ????
Yup, many Yanks with the 55 and a Hugger.
With a 190/50 the sidewall height is 95mm.
With a 190/55 the sidewall height is 104.5mm so a gain of nearly 1cm.
However, the shape of the cross-section is different.
Should be fine.
Thanks, you've clarified it well - more room for the hugger, and corrects the speedo are and improves the handling. I'll be triying the 190/55 myself at next change.
