Title: So long
Post by: Gresty on April 02, 2013, 03:28:18 PM
Well, I've decided to trade in the GTR and will be picking up a Triumph Tiger 1050 on Saturday.

The GTR has been great; I just fancied a change and the thought of a big bill for the 25k service, MOT, front tyre and that rather annoying tyre sensor battery has prodded me into action. I was also faced with some corrosion on the wheels and engine casing which needed attention if the bike was to be kept in good condition. Add all this together and I was thinking the best part of £1000 was needed just to keep it in good running order.

I've had the bike 18 months and its done 18k miles home and abroad in that time, including an 18 hour non-stop trip to Budapest with ease and comfort, as well as several trips to the Alps and Spain where it has performed with aplomb.

The pros for me have been the ease of covering big miles in comfort, great engine and decent handling for a big girl. The down side has been the weight of the thing. I remember sitting in traffic two-up, fully loaded in lyon in torrential rain feeling like a was wrestling a bear. Not the ideal conditions for such a bike but a necessary part of touring.  The corrosion on the wheels and engine casing is a shame as it was regularly cleaned with little riding in the salty roads of winter.

I've not posted much at all on the forum, but I have laughed at some of the jokes, learned from some very knowlegeable people and made use of the information shared by other GTR owners. Its a great forum made so by it's members, so thank you for letting me be a small part of it.

I've got an SW Motech rack and monokey top box plate to sell and will put it on e-bay at some point. If anyone on here is interested PM me and I will check the site for a while.

So long folks and keep enjoying what is a great bike.

Andy

Andy sorry to hear you are leaving us. Hopefully you will pop in from time to time and let us know how you are getting on. You've done more on your GTR than I ever have, I'd love to travel overseas on mine but the wife won't let me! You will, I'm sure have terrific memories of your trips.

Take care, Steve.

good luck Andy and hope you enjoy the Triumph.
The GTR is a great bike however not everybody's cup  of tea.  I bought mine last October and I was the fourth owner in that year.
keep an eye on the alternator as the 1050 uses the same one as the CBF and there is a fault with them up until 2009  I believe.

Ta Ra gresty, sad that you are leaving.

I'm sure that you will like the 1050 Tiger I had one in 2007 (burnt Orange)  it was great, it did have a few issues which I know believe are sorted out, it was comfy economical and had a good engine plus it is a much lighter bike that the GTR

Don't disappear altogether ~ pop back into the forum and tell us how your getting on
