I saw this the other day on a news stand, seems perfectly reasonable to me.... :whistling:
well that's not going to do her career much good now she's pissed off the chief constable, she would've been better off taking the paid sick pay and got new batteries for her touch
Sounds like she failed to carry out a Dynamic Risk Assesment before she got out of her vehicle :whistling:. She would have noticed the poor lighting and turned her torch on.
Note to self - on being burgled first pop outside and make a note of all corners, edges, thorns or vaguely scary things, document fully, get ratified by insurance company, logged with police in order to ensure all officers have relevants warnings... Call police quoting site reference for h&s compliance...
Actually, sod it, burglar's probably a lovely chap who's hard up, good luck to him!
They should chuck the big fat tub of lard out of the force, what a :censored: :asshole: She should have gone to specsavers. :hang: should be brought back with that stupid bitch as the first customer, I keep thinking that some story that I read will not be surpassed by something more stupid, then this :censored: :shit: rears its head and proves me wrong. The world has gone mad.

a tad bit strong Geoff.. but she won't be in the force long now  the "system" will be out to get her especially under the circumstances how it happened, the force expect their officers to lead by example.
You forgot the obligatory health and safety risk assessment and training on how to avoid trips slips and falls.
Was she wearing hiz-viz, safety boots etc etc????

Lets face it the way the job is going and the pittance of a pension which some officers will receive after 30-35 years if she gets the compo she'll probably tell the Chief he can stick the job up his arse and she'll walk anyway.

:agree: :agree: :agree:
Fcukin ridiculous....what about the cost and effect that all this sort of nonsense has on the petrol station owner, and his business ? not to mention the public's perception of that police officer who is part, of what is, a superb police force.
She should be taken to one side and given a few facts of life.....then again maybe she'll be promoted :ohplease:
Oooo she has been urged to drop compensation claim..

Common sense prevails. I bet she's the laughing stock of here work mates, perhaps she might consider a transfer into the (Guide) dogs division :mfr_lol:
I think what ever she decides to do now she hasn't done her career any good  I won't be surprised, if over the next 6 months she resigns. most likely be a case of jumping before being pushed  what was she thinking of.. surely she must have known that making a claim over something so trivial against a member of the public while performing her duty would go down like a lead balloon with her superiors.
The BBC report states a quote .... " A compensation culture that is corrosive " .... I think everyone here understands that.
Seems like this is not the first time...

mmmmm, seems like she's accident prone......ergo the police force is perhaps not the safest place for her employ
Deb's it's not uncommon for Officers to sue their Force when things go wrong.

Really? Oh... Didn't know that.
When something goes wrong then suing for compensation is every persons right.
When you are too stupid to look for a kerb in a garage, trip over it because you were too stupid to use the torch that is standard issue equipment so that you could see it, and then try to sue the insurers of the garage, then you are too stupid to be a Police officer,... IMHO.

So there is more to this than just a headline.
She was injured performing a job too help people - and when she got hurt and lost out on her wages she is told "tough luck".
Feel sorry for her.
Marky ... You don't miss out on "wages" as they are paid if you are sick or injured on duty ... I believe now the Chief Constable or Commissioner of each force can look at individual cases after a period of 6 months and has the powers to half their pay up to 12 months when there is another review.
She may of course miss out on overtime but if you're sick you're sick .... Life is full of choices and I don't believe what she has done was a good one. Any :police: on here please correct me on the sick bit if I have it wrong !
Isn't this type of action a result of the litigious society in which we now live :balloon:
I still think she should have her balls chopped off
Nigel, you are as always correct, :mfr_lol:
You get full pay for the first 6 months and half pay for the next 6 months. Then you get a UPP (unsatisfactory personal performance) and then they'll look at sacking you if they can.
The only money I can see you might lose is potential for overtime, you'd lose your shift allowance and it will affect the sickness criteria obviously which would prevent you from applying for any new roles for 12-24 months.

Totally agree, if its an injury on duty, then you probably wouldn't be put on half pay after 6 months, as you say, you miss out on overtime, but then i think you and I are the only ones in the country earning overtime these days.
Mind you they probably would put you on half pay if you're taking he p***...
Personallly I've got no time for this. Just look where you're going!
My main point is don't jump on a headline.
If its as clear cut as it appears, she will be laughed out of whatever gathering sits to hear the claim. I certainly don't think she should be pressured to withdraw a claim because it "sounds" like she is swinging the lead.
My main interest/observation goes something like :-
Nobody would bat an eye if Bernie Ecclestone litigated for a few £ million for loss of earnings cos a race track had a muddy car park. But if the average working man resorts to law it generates a very negative reaction.

:listencarefully:....................................Mean while back in the Bat Cave funds were low and Batman was considering suing Commissioner Gordon and the City of Gotham for psychological scarring from the nasty ladder in his tights obtained whilst apprehending that arch villain "The Joker", to fund his next joy ride in the flame spitting Bat Mobile.....................Or may be if it was sunny the Bat Bike........................Or if really good weather and the eye candy was exposed on the beach the Bat Boat.
As Batman ran his greedy money grabbing scam through his mind for the umpteenth time his dreams of untold unearned wealth were shattered by that little :shit: of a side kick he had save from the gutter for his own deviant pleasure (The Boy Wonder :smartass:) who said.................and I quote................"It'll never work Batman!!!....We work in the Private NOT Public funded sector of the economy"
:whistling:
:mfr_lol: :mfr_lol: :mfr_lol: Oh boy that made I larfff ...a lot :mfr_lol: :mfr_lol:
Marky .. I agree .. it does create a negative reaction ..
I don't know anyone in the job who would even think of "claiming' for such an accident, and that's what it was .. an accident .... Something in this world that most people seem to have forgotten all about because everyone else wants you to sue for damages.
Sadly common sense went out the door years ago.
An Officer at our place sued the Force recently as they sustained an injury on duty and they were successful in their claim, they received £4500.
(Not me I hasten to add!)
:listencarefully:
I don't have a prob with a genuine case.....................but tripping over your own shoe lace on the call of duty is taking the PISS
Case in point. I heard this story when in the trade.
A dentist in the USA orders his new Red BMW 535 (Hot Motor in those days) from his local dealer. His only proviso is that it must only have factory finish paint on the car!
The car is ordered and some were over the rainbow in a shed in down town Germany a car is born............put on a boat and shipped to the BMW import centre downtown USA where it is inspected and prepped for dealer delivery after shipping.
So far so good.....................you with me so far?
The dealer takes delivery and after PDI hands the car over for massive wads of wonga.......................all is well in the world until........................................THE END USER (life is so simply without them) goes out at night and parks under a street light..........................................
:censored: :censored: :censored: :censored: :shit: :shit: :shit: :shit: :shit: :censored: :censored: :censored:........................you get my point lol.............the car had 2 different shades of red under the street light....................
End user sues dealer / dealer not painted car! / But BMW's import centre had touched up a small damage in transit mark on the paintwork (Not known to dealer as there is no need to know it is a new car with factory finish after all)......................so factory finish manufacture paint finish YES..........................NO not according to the court judge............................End user had new car foc plus financial compensation that was in excess of twice the monetary value of the car plus costs..........................
Only in USA?.........................Na......we are getting as bad

I think we're worse. I was quite sure our overbearing H&S culture originated from the US but I'm having second thoughts. It's certainly not prevalent in Europe where, for example, you can wander round a castle's ramparts without having huge fences to stop you falling over the edge:
If you fall off it's your own stupid fault.
When we're in Oregon Caves recently we were very surprised not to be given safety helmets to wear. There were lots of low 'ceilings' and plenty of bits of rock to bang your head on but the onus, very sensibly, was on the visitor to look where they were going. I can't see that happening here at any public attraction. Perhaps all the H&S nannying and compensation-culture is home grown?
