Title: So long and thanks for all the fish...
Post by: AJ on March 21, 2013, 08:15:10 AM
Hi all,

Time for me to move on now - the GTR has been traded in! I have to be honest, I never really gelled with the GTR - I cant put my finger on why, I just didn't.. Its not a bad bike, but I don't believe its worth the money Big K ask for it, in comparison to other machines in the same group. I have now moved on to a Harley, which is something I have wanted to do for sometime, I am sure that the Harley will take more cleaning though!

So, I wish you all happy riding and thanks for the time on here :) and maybe see you on the road someday!

Cheers
AJ
PS: the subject is a Douglas Adams novel.. as I am a diver (close to a dolphin!) it seemed fitting..

well I hope you find what you are looking for.
I bought my GTR last October  and I was the fourth owner last year and it only 6k on the clock.
so I think you will either not be freighted of it and love it or find it intimidating and not get on with it.
it's a big old lump and a lot to handle and hold up.

however, I absolutely love it,  when the roads were dry yesterday on my commute to work through the country lanes popping off overtakes making a bit of progress and then cruising on the M4 after it just gives me a grin on my face back to the days when   I  had my Blackbird CBR 1100
but now I have power and comfort.

Are you going to part exchange the GTR

AJ,

Hope you enjoy the Harley, good luck, reckon you should have stuck a Babel fish in your ear, you'd have understood the GTR and really got it then.

I like the title, and maybe we'll meet at the "restaurant at the end of the universe"...

Unfortuantely, those Harley types don't wave back and grow long beards - you know the ones - like ZZ Top!!!

Enjoy!

Thanks for all the replies and wishes!

SirToU - I have noticed recently that hardly any motorcyclists nod back anymore, some do (I always do and will continue to no matter what bike is being ridden!!). I also have no intention of growing a beard!  :mfr_lol:

Silverback & Trousersnake - I 'got' the GTR and I was comfortable on it from a handling point of view, I only did about 2500 miles on it but every time I went out I always thought I love the bike and smiled.. It just isn't for me - I liked the idea of going on long tours with it, which is why I bought it, but I cant ever get the time to do that and I just don't think I am ready for a big tourer yet. The ideal solution would have been like Pistole and had both, but my garage isn't big enough! I did part ex the GTR for the Harley, its frightening how much money it lost in just under a year!

Viper - there will be no pirate wear of any kind, no leather chaps and absolutely no tassels!!! :mfr_lol:

OC - I am sure that you wont be surprised that Harley do a complete range of cleaning products and I have already purchased the key ones! Chrome cleaner being one of them..

Maybe one day I will return to a GTR or similar - but for now my path is shiny chrome, V-Twin, back to basics riding (and a lot of cleaning ) - but lets face it as long as we are on a bike - we are all in the same family no matter what bike it is.

Ride Safe! :biker3:

Hope you enjoy the Harley. Having embraced the air cooled V twin religion myself I can attest to the old different strokes, different folks adage.

Hi OC,

I have an FXDC-ANV or Dyna Super Glide Custom 110th Anniversary version.

- ok. A Dyna is one of the better handling HDs out there.

- compact and responsive , but still unmistakably a HD

- good choice.

AJ

I'm not familiar with Harley specs/models, but I've just checked their website and the one you have chosen looks great

TBH it wouldn't be the bike for me, but I can see why you have chosen that model, and its bloody good value for money, some nice colour combinations too

BTW I've sent you a P.M

HI AJ. Nice bike that, as with Rog not my cup of tea, but hope you gleen lots of pleasure from it, it certainly is an eyefull. From knowing lads who have owned Harleys, one thing that you must be fastidious about is the cleaning regime, NEVER put it away whilst still wet, or it will rust before your eyes, and they say undersealing the mudguards is a must do, as water gets into the peened over edges of the mudguard then rusts like hell. Enjoy the bike, and come back and tell us how it is going.   Geoff.
