Title: sump cover paint flaking
Post by: Teacher on March 20, 2013, 02:04:24 PM
Hi

noticed when cleaning bike at weekend that the black paint is flaking off sump

Anyone else got this problem and do I need to repaint to stop corrosion, squirt acf 50 on? or waxoyl or what?

any advice appreciated. Think I'll spay some acf 50 about until warm weather arrives. was thinking of smoothrite?

Cheers folks

i am quite fussy with my bikes for details like sumps ect parts you cant see i like to keep even the parts you dont see looking good,if it was me i would clean  the sump thoroughly removing all the loose flakes , rub it down with fine grade paper, mask the bottom of your bike ,give a couple of coats of primer ,then gradually build up your paint with a black smootherite aerosol paint ,i have also used  halfords gloss black aerosol's and have obtained a great finsh, the better you prepare your sump the better it will look,i also give the finished paint a couple of coats of halfords clear laquer. works great on your centre and side stands also.
