I cant leave nowt alone me, so might aswell start off my own thread and update it with pics and info as i go. Heres my 2010 plate Neptune Blue 1400GTR CAF. Purchased March 2013, 2 previous owners with only 6500 miles on the clock.

Heres the mods so far
1) 8000K HID kit & 3W White Cree LED side lights
2) Meta Alarm
3) Rear Rack - DIY style and Kappa Top Box
4) RAM Mount & phone case
5) Stebil/Nautilis Horn
6) Vance & Hines CS One Staimless Steel Exhaust
7) Lower Adjustable Foot Pegs
8) 2" Bar Risers
9) Secondary Butterflies Removed
10) Custom LED Side Profile Lighting and Rear LED Fog Lights
11) DIY Slotted Wind Screen
So today i set about putting my HID kit into the bike. This was removed from my old VStrom before i part ex'd it. The alarm system also arrived today which was good timing. So without even viewing the workshop manual, i begun! :punk:
I stated off taking a little bit off
(http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i132/kevshek/1400GTR/20130315_173058_zps7402adb5.jpg)
Then turned into a bit more!
Then it was quite a lot!!! :mfr_lol:
And like with most DIY jobs....... you always end up with left over bits! :hammer:
Anyways i got the lights working, but the bikes still in some bits as im installing the alarm

- hi Brave Man Kev.
- how are the HIDs compared to the stock lights ?
.
Rusty are you reading this, he's had the bike one day and already dismantled it beyond recognition!
There's hope for you yet. :mfr_lol:
Rusty's probably feeling quite sick again :mfr_lol: :mfr_lol:

The HIDs are spot on mate, dont often need Hi Beam with these babies, and youll definitely see me coming up behind you. They light up the road miles ahead so you get plenty of warning, plus the 8000K are a tinge blue which match the bikes colour, and as you know, is the arguably fastest colour

This is what im like, cant leave nowt alone, even got into some serious debt in the past modifying cars! HERES (http://www.v-strom.co.uk/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=46&t=12401) what i did to the DL during the year i had her.
Blimey Kev, all that in a year, did you have time to ride it?
Mind you, your thread had me weeping at the memories of underseat storage on the Vstrom [ curses GTR 1400 ]
You and me both mate! At this rate ill end up putting this damn alarm unit inside the fuel tank! :listencarefully: :mfr_lol:
Btw the DL was a daily rider, i just had to work quickly!
KevS, I'm really keen to know how you got on with the Meta alarm. I've kept mine from the old bike (it didn't work too well on the FJR because I used :shit: quality crimps and ended up with some unknown electrical issues). More worried about doing such on the GTR as the electrics are a tad more complicated. Also, space is more of a premium on the GTR - so where did you stuff everything?. I'm a bit reticent to pull it down to do stuff as being in Australia every day is a good day to ride! The HID lights look great!. Oh, and I've been following the threads on which colour is faster - and I reckon the candy arabian red is definitely it!
I know youre new and that, so i forgive you, but let me just correct you, Blue IS the fastest! :agree:
With regard to the alarm, let me first say that the bike is back together in one piece! My alarm is in and working. Wiring wise, you just take the live & earth from the battery, indicators you can pick up from the rear lights, and also the ignition live from the accessory output at the rear of the bike. Immobilization circuit wise, you can choose whatever you wish. As for the location, ill PM you a suggestion and pics, obviously its not something to post publicly. My Meta alarm wasnt very big, about 1" thick, 2" wide x3" long.
So today while i was messing about finishing off the alarm system on the bike, i also set about doing something with the rear rack. As we know, the standard plastic rack isnt gonna support any weight let alone a top box. As im a skint flint, i decided to butcher my own!
Below is a rear rack i had lying about off a V Strom
(http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i132/kevshek/1400GTR/20130316_155429_zpsfce76da5.jpg)
I removed the original plastic rack and offered it up and marked out some cut line then set about with the angle grinder.
After a bit of shaping and leveling off the under side, i got it sitting pretty on the bike.
I then placed the orignal plastic rack onto it and marked out the 4 bolt holes to be drilled.
Next step is to have the rack re-powder coated, i have a firend who works at Stella Blast so will go and see him on monday. I also measure up some bolt, and require 4x 45mm Cap Heads which ill pick up monday too. Once its all back, i can then just bolt it all on, and my monorack plate.
- you are the Man !
- amazing bit of work there !!
.
Thanks man, not finished just yet. Im still trying to decide how to get a handle bar mount sorted for my phone.Trying to figure it where to attach a RAM mount or lamp of some sort.
I used this one Kev to mount my Roadhawk cam and sat nav on the left handlebar.
http://www.ram-mount.co.uk/brakeclutch-handlebar-mount-with-1-ball-p-1284-c-238_286.html
You can add whatever mounts you need for your phone type.... seems pretty rigid.
That looks canny. What about the allen head bolt that in the end of the handle bar? Its the one that goes parallel along into the grip? Is that to secure the grip bar or is that some sort of weight? I was thinking somewhere more central to my line of vision, maybe even in the head stock bolt. I think somewhere someone had an attachment for that.
The allen head at the end of the bar holds the bar weight on.
You can get steering head stem mounts from the same place above if you want something more central.
http://www.ram-mount.co.uk/universal-mounts-ramb-10-dia-c-450_369.html?sesid=ks3sqr25altcc5394a4t4bdcc5
What size is the steering stem mount on our bikes?
I couldn't tell you mate as I didn't get a stem mount, but sure somebody on here will know....
Kev,
The helpful bit is, i have these fitted to the inside of my bars, they allow you to fit items designed to go on standard handlebars, the bracket on the right hand on is for a Givi Iphone holder which is very good, and very secure. it also puts stuff up a bit higher in the eyeline.
The unhelpful bit is that they were fitted to the bars when i bought the bike(or my lovely wife bought it for me...) Posted the picture in the hope that someone on here can ID them, as they are an excellent bit of kit.
Clive

Silverback, I suspect that those extenders may well have been machined to fit as I can't say that I've seen them offered as an accessory....good idea mind you
OC,
I wondered about that, mind you, seems like there are a few on this site who will get a couple of empty beans cans and some chewing gum, then disappear into their A Team sheds and hey presto...

No worries Rusty, youd be glad to know its back in one piece but might not be for long!
Going back to the subject of ram mounts, i have a left over stem mount from the DL. I reckon with a new bolt i could stick that on the end of the bar mount bolt. Ive ordered an extension arm from ram which will bring my phone case towards the middle and hopefully a more central view.

Good spot Pistole, I didn't think to look on ProjectD, which is stoopid of me really as I've used them for accessories in the past, and very good they are too  :mfr_lol:
Got my RAM mount sorted finally. I order a waterproof case for my Galaxy Note and extension arm.
I had this stem mount left over from my old DL, problem was, it was too big to fit into the hex hole on the GTR.
After a bit of experimenting, i managed to use a combination of a nut and rubber sleeve to secure it in place.

Sorry I don't do apps and stuff so don't know how all that works
Yes mate. Use it for music and navigation
Picked up my carrier plate from the powder coaters this morning. Cost me all of a tenner! The blemish is off aluminium corrosion but its covered by a rubber mat anyhow so it aint gonna be seen. Hopefully get it fitted this afternoon.

Heres video demo of the top box lighting. This was taken while it was fitted to the VStrom bu its the same on the GTR now.

Hi Kev,
Its not too big but does look too far back which can adversely affect the handling. My rack almost touches the back of the seat whereas yours is 4"- 6" back from yours.
Looks like a tidy job tho', always nice to make or mod stuff to suit
Coman
Cheers mate. Ill have another look at it later. Ill have to get my laddy to sit on the back and see what its like. 4 to 6 inches may cause the passenger to have to bend forward but ill use the child as a gauge!
Nope
if we arfe playing guess the car is it a ford ka?any prizes for the winner !!!

It'll be LOUD :mfr_lol:
Thank you for the reminder ... A Stebil Nautilis .... Meant to buy one ages ago ... It's the only rubbish thing on my totally standard Gtr ..... Hmmmm ... Wonder if I could follow those pictures and wire it in myself .... What do you think Steve ? :mfr_lol: :mfr_lol:
Rusty, you know as well as I do what the answer to your question is! Leave it alone otherwise the GTR will never start again with your skills/lack of skills. :whistling:
Leave it to the dealer to sort out.

Order a set of adjustable foot pegs off ebay. cost around 45 quid, quality wise, nicely machine, light weight and good design.
Here they are
(http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i132/kevshek/1400GTR/IMG_2013040945180_zps95c5e33d.jpg)
First thing to do is to remove the cir clip from the original pin to remove the OE foot peg.
Slide the pin out and remove peg and spring.
I test fitted the new peg and noticed it sat slightly elevated.
To fix that, i took a touch off the stopper at the end of the peg. Heres a comparison, its about 1mm if that, and i also deburred the edges.
Sits much better now
(http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i132/kevshek/1400GTR/IMG_2013040956225_zpsfe28a8f4.jpg)
Now i refitted the new peg and OE spring with the Pin and Clip
(http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i132/kevshek/1400GTR/IMG_2013040945201_zpsb3a01f1b.jpg)
This gives you an idea of how much lower it is.
Side one, you can see the rear brake lever is too high and need adjusting.
Heres the rear brake adjustment
(http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i132/kevshek/1400GTR/IMG_201304096592_zpsea7c96bc.jpg)
To adjust the rear brake, the peg hanger has to come off.
In order to remove this protective plate......
You need to undo this 10mm bolt to remove the plate. After that, its just a case of loosening the 12mm retaining nut and widning the 10mm threaded shaft till you get your desired height.
After refitting the peg hanger, you need to adjust the rear brake switch here, by turning it.
Repeat for the other side, then adjust the gear link by undoing the 10mm retaining nuts either end and twisting the rod to the desired height.
The pegs had a clever pin feature which allows a lot of degrees of adjustment.

Hi Kev,
Thanks for some lovely, clear and in focus shots of all the steps. A lesson to many
Coman
ps, have you tried them yet? do you miss the rubber anti-vibe effect?

They are switched of course. Needless to say its not the first time ive done it on a bike or car for that matter and it is about taste. However as i ride during the night with working shifts, it makes me more visible and hopefully less prone to some eejit pulling out on you...... Which has happend a few times i tell ya.
Today, i fitted teh 2" bar risers i ordered from the states. i took about 20 mins if that.
First off heres the kit.
Using a 10mm socket, removed the bolt in the top yoke securing the clutch line. Repeat for the other side for the brake line.
Next you need to free up some slack from the wiring harnesses. They are held to the bottom yoke using some clips. You just need to free up a bit of slack, but there plenty give there.
Now pop the caps off covering the allen heads using a smal flat screwdriver.
Undo the 3x 6mm allen bolts
(http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i132/kevshek/1400GTR/IMG_201304159355_zpsb08af46d.jpg)
Remove the handle bar
(http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i132/kevshek/1400GTR/IMG_2013041557601_zpsac32cb84.jpg)
Now position the riser and using the new bolts, aling them and start them off by hand, then tighten to 25Nm.
Heres 1 done, now repeat for the other side
(http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i132/kevshek/1400GTR/IMG_2013041535757_zps3be59c80.jpg)
Spot the difference

Heres the finished results

Had a quick blast out today and its much better for my riding position. Much happier with these and looking forward now to Ireland tour.
Decided to remove the Secondary Butterflies as i found On / Off part throttle very jerky.
Wasnt a hard process and didnt take long. After removing the seat and unbolting a few allen heads to released the fairing around the tank area, the tank simply unbolts via 4x 10mm bolts. The tank then can simply be raised and supported while youre working on the bike.
There are 2 access panels which again just unbolt using 3x 10mm bolts each. Once off, you can see the secondaries. I just used an extension driver and magneticve pick up tool to assist with removing the flies.
Flies all out, just a case of refitting everything.

The part throttle is better now, ive notice a bit of exhaust popping rolling off the throttle but its not excessive. Mid range wise, i havent really noticed anything good or bad on the short i i had.
Easy ! :mfr_lol: :whistling:
Havent posted in a while, mainly cos i havent done anything in a while, but i did eventually get my lighting done once they arrived from china. So here are some pics of the additional side profile lighting and rear fogs ive installed.

Cos i can
And also cos it increases my visibility when riding at night. Im sure most people have had someone pulled out of them after not looking properly.

Have you fitted a Power Commander or had the ECU flashed to make sure the bike doesn't run too lean with the "flies" removed?
Im gonna get the ecu remapped.
Each to their own of course but I promised myself when I got this GTR that I'd not spend/waste money on unnecessary gadgets and accessories for it. Fitted it with a sat nav and that's it. The bikes ample fast enough for me and is a simply stunning machine straight out of the box.
Each to their own I guess.
If you get the ECU remapped I understand it's better with the Flies in.
Power Commander not needed as the EU bikes have Lambda Sensors so they adjust the fuelling automatically.
All you will gain from the PC would be more precise fuelling and a flatter fuel curve.
May gain 1 or 2 Bhp and/or 1 or 2 Mpg depending on how you map it.
Kevstrom
How long have you had the flies out now and what do you reckon?
Have you got the ECU remapped Yet?
guhl in the USA have a remap for the bike which by all accounts is the dogs danglies but sod sending my ECU over there and waiting to ride my bike for a few weeks.
Questions questions but we need to know.
Thanks
Alan
Ive actually put the flies back on now. Had them out for a couple of weeks, cant say i noticed a difference in power on an already powerful bike. I dont have the cashflow to get mine remapped just yet and i didnt want it to run lean either as im going on my ireland trip so back in they went. besides, the new map will open them up earlier anyways.
TBH I've never found the GTR to be lacking in power
And where in the UK could you get the ECU remapped?
I don't want to put a PC on as it takes up space under the seat.

I decided to need to cut some slots into the screen to reduce the pressure on my wrists. So heres how i did it.
Heres my "standard" screen, dont ask me which one it is, but it came with the spoiler on the bike.
First off, i masked up the screen and got me a ruler and pencil. I wont bore you with all the geometry, but i just took a few guestimates from the pic of the Vario screen and made my own design.
After removing the screen, i started by using a step drill to cut holes into each corner
(http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i132/kevshek/1400GTR/IMAG0022_zps7733f843.jpg)
I then used a cutting disc on the dremmel to join up the holes
(http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i132/kevshek/1400GTR/IMAG0023_zps9cd32e8e.jpg)
Then after a bit of sanding and filing i got all the edges straight and neat.
After a clean and wipe down, i gave it a bit of flame polish but found i was just bubbling up the edges so didnt bother. Heres the results.

Hi Kev,
That looks really neat. Time, tools and talent, anything is doable
well done

Cheers man, Ive done this sort of stuff before so it wasnt difficult, just had to find the time.
That looks a realy top notch job.
Nice job, be interesting to see what difference it makes.
Cheers peeps. Hopefully it will work like the vario does. Dont think im gonna get out till tues thou to test it but will report back.
Looks pretty much cock on though

KeVstrom... must congratulate you on your modding of your 2010 GTR  use to have the 2010 GTR in that best colour  magnesium grey  but I'm to old in the teeth now to be fiddling around in the garage  been there done that! rather ride the buggers than spend time fiddling with them, all I done to mine was fit a remus hexacone, hugger, rad guard, fenda extenda, Kawasaki gel seat, and a bagster tank cover. I only covered 8,000 miles in the 2 years, I had the GTR and the majority of that was a few trips to france and Italy. but I've always had at least 2 bikes at the same time so mileage is evened out between the bikes! also at the same time had 2008 zzr1400 which I sold for a another middle weight super sport which was a 2012 zx6r which was a "hell of a bike" bloody brilliant machine  but made my back and wrists ache  and also missed the zzr1400 which is also one brilliant machine dose everything great straight from the grate  so decided to p/x the zx6r and the GTR for the new 2013 zzr1441 special edition model  and due to me getting to old for middle weight super sports  I choose the new 2013 model Kawasaki versys 1000 for my second bike just came back from a Scotland trip on the versys and very impressed with the versys how it handles and also as plenty of power  take a look at the pics of the trip here! http://www.gtr1400.co.uk/forums/index.php/topic,3234.0.html anyway nice to hear from you and keep up the modding... what else do you have planned for the GTR?
Well its almost 1 year of ownership now. Ive done all i need to do i think with the exception of a remap to smoothen out the bike. So if anyone has any options/advice, then let me know.
I've actually found running in ECO makes a smoother ride, I have been running it in ECO since I got it and have no issues, you can hear the difference when you start it up too......
Mine idkes about 2k rpm from cold on ECO. Its almost like having the choke on (whoooooooooo?)
I would just prefer to have full power snoother. For exanple when i get out of the estate i have to turn right at a mini roundabout, which is uneven anyhow, and with the throttle responce the way it is, just make going aroung it even worse.
I'd say that 95% of the time I ride in Eco mode and I find it's actually smoother than not using it.
Finally got round to installing my projector lights. I first did a bit of research to see what was involved, it wasnt too hard but its not for the faint hearted. The headlight unit need stripped out the bike, and it needs seperated in order to fit these. There a few youtube vids on how to do that but ill give a quick run down to it.
Firstly, heres the kit i bought off ebay for £72 delivered.
These are 8000K White Angel Eye and Blue Demon Eye Projectors. You can choose other colour options too. The kits are universal and very comprehensive and come with all wiring, which is more than long enough for a bike. Our headlight units will accept these 3" units no bother, anything else i think would look too small.
So today, i begun by stripping off a few bits from the bike. All these bits need to come off in order to remove the front cowling and headlight unit.
Bikes looking rather scary
(http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i132/kevshek/1400GTR/20140908_095110_zpsktfq9wuu.jpg)
While the bike was stripped down, i used the opportunity to test out both projector units, to make sure they both worked! before i go pulling apart the light.
Heres the Angel eye and Demon eye working.
Heres the HID projector on
(http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i132/kevshek/1400GTR/20140908_103328_zpsihk2hil7.jpg)
Once the front cowl was removed, the headlight unit was simple unscrewed from it.
Heres the unit, i took this pic for reference.
Before going into the oven, i removed any unnecessary bit from the light unit. No point heating/melting bit i didnt need too.
Next preheat the oven to 200*F which is Gas Mark 1/4 (YES one quarter) Basically very low. You only need to warm up the adhesive. Place the light unit on cardboard and stick it in the oven for 5 mins at a time. After first 5 mins, i tried to separate it but found it wasnt hot enough so popped it back in for another 5. Id say first bake about 7-10 mins.
Handle the unit with cloth gloves, lift it out and place it on a clean dust sheet to work on. Gently start prying the clips up and the side apart with some flat screwdrivers. Pull apart by hand or pry apart where possible. Work swiftly and rebake as necessary. Work a gap all the way round the unit, keep it steady and even.
And here we have the light unit separated.
Now before fitting the projector lights, the original H4 spring clip was removed as it wasnt needed.
Next i removed the HID bulb from the projector, this was done by simply unscrewing the retaining clip (word of warning, do not overtighten this screw when refitting bulb!)
Simply pull the bulb out.
Check the orientation of the projector, on these, the TDC is the frosted bit to the left side of this pic. Also there is a slight gap in the angel eye at bottom centre.
With the nut removed from the back of the projector, first fit the rubber mount/support. This should be dished on one side to conform to the bottom of the projector. I test fitted this into position in order to mark out a spot for the next bit.
In order for the angel and demon eye wiring to pass thru the reflector, i had to drill a 13mm hole, this was done by marking out a spot just below the rubber mount. Once drilled, the plugs/wiring could be passed thru.
Now the projector was in place, the H4 locating washer was put around the threaded shaft.
The spring washer and retaining nut could then be fitted and tightened. This needs to be tight, check by grabbing the projector and giving it a wobble. If it wobbles, tighten it further.
Flip the unit over, check make sure the light is aligned correctly. Give them a twist if need be.
I used some conduit to tidy up the wiring which goes into the reflector as the mirrored surface shows them from underneath.
Heres a pic of them both fitted.
Now time to refit the front of the light unit, but before you do, take some time to remove any dirt or finger prints from inside. I then placed the glass front back on, but as the adhesive was hard, i pressed them together as best poss, and then rebaked it for 5 mins. I then just pushed the 2 halves together ensuring the clips all relocated in their proper places.
Heres the light back together
(http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i132/kevshek/1400GTR/20140908_120014_zps3omrgw4v.jpg)
I then refitted the hardware around the back of the unit, the HID bulbs, and also the rubbers/grommets.
The light unit could then be refitted to the front cowl ready for the bike.
Next up is the wiring on the bike. I managed to install the 2 ballasts on either side of the front support and the ancillaries for them just below. As i already had HIDs fitted, i had a direct fused LIVE from the battery, aswell as my earth point.

Finally got round to installing my projector lights.
I can't wait for you to finish this project... thanks for getting on with it and for documenting the process. You make it look easy. I think they're going to look insanely cool!
I initially thought why change a perfectly good quality headlight unit, but on reflection (haha) and after reading steven's comment , they will be" insanely cool". OMG I want to do this and if I get bored in the winter I may just do that,
need some more pics kev!
Thanks people. Yeah I think it will look cool, but if you've seen the other thread, there's a company that sells a complete unit but at a silly price. Even then you'll still have to disect the bike and do all the wiring. This was the best way for me to achieve the look I wanted.
You can also get a different look by blackening out the reflectors with some matt black but I like the silver on mine.
More to follow tomorrow. I need to get it done cos I'm back to work wed.
Hi
Looking good, but how do these achieve head / dip?
Richard
Richard, glad you asked, out of the 3 pairs of wires coming out from the bottom of the projectors, the red & black pair plug into the loom. This controls a built in solenoid which moves an internal reflector to bend the light beam up. It's the same principle as they had in the hi/lo H4 HID kits. So rather than have a separate filament for hi beam, just bend the existing beam.

Might consider offering a fitting service, if theres interest, you never know.

I can't wait for you to finish this project... thanks for getting on with it and for documenting the process. You make it look easy. I think they're going to look insanely cool!
The main reason why I had to do it this week was cos there was a slight wiring issue with my old HIDs. On occasion, when turning the bars, it would knock a loose connection and turn off the headlights for a split second. Well on Saturday when I went to work, i notice the headlights weren't on at all! I messed about fiddling with any wiring I could reach by hand but couldn't get a fix on the loose connection.
The ride home Sunday at 3 am was interesting! The lights were on for the most part but on occasion they went completely off! And I had to pull over sharpish lol. Anyways, when I stripped it down, i found the bad connection which has now been replaced. It was the main live power feed from the battery which I had shortened and soldered on my first hid install. This had been moving/bending over time ultimately breaking the connection.
how are the new lights performing ? can you still adjust the beam from the cockpit knobs and do you have anypics with them on or showing how they look say from about 6ft away?

Richard, glad you asked, out of the 3 pairs of wires coming out from the bottom of the projectors, the red & black pair plug into the loom. This controls a built in solenoid which moves an internal reflector to bend the light beam up. It's the same principle as they had in the hi/lo H4 HID kits. So rather than have a separate filament for hi beam, just bend the existing beam.
Cool, night time pics needed please
Richard

The lights are in and done, ill post up pics shortly after ive answered these few Qs.
The light adjusment on our bikes is dead clever, it uses a cable system which simply disconnects from the back of the head light unit, which i did when removing them. The knob remains in situ under the clocks, but yes, you use exactly the same thing to adjust them. When happens is, the cable turns a gear system on the back of the headlight, which in turn, adjusts the angle of the reflector. As these projectors are bolted to the reflector, they move with it, ergo, original adjustment. Simples.

If the owners covering the postage both ways, then just a bit for labour for actually fitting the lights into the headlight housing. Maybe around 40-50 quid.
OK so today i refitted the headlight back onto the bike and put it all together. Theres nothing much to show here just what looks like a bunch of messy wires. You just got to find space for thing to fit, and bundle up wire, securing them in place and keeping thing tidy. There is a small shelf (if you like) where i stuck the resistors and led control box, just kept things out of the way. Note though, this "shelf" moves with the bars so allow enough slack on the back of the headlight wires.

Offered up the headlight and connected the various connections.

Heres those control boxes stacked up, stuck down with some double sided tape.

Ok and now a load of random pics i took, best i could do for night was to close the garage door and switch off the light. Ill get some more next time. The lights have been wired in such a way that the CREE Led side light come on with ignition, Angel & Demon eyes come on when the bike is running, and i have an override switch for the headlights (projectors) so i can keep them off during the day, and use the Angel & Demon as DLR light if you like. When its then dark, i just flip the switch and my headlights come on. Interestingly, if you flick the pass switch, the light come on momentarily and also raise upto High beam. So its all worked out canny.
Enjoy the pics, any requests just leave a post.

Don't think there will be much opportunity when they in front to see them haha.
Heres a few night shots, unfortunately I couldn't go somewhere to take some decent pic tonight but will later this week. They are bright though.

My side lights are CREE led, either 5 or 7 watts can't remember, but they are bloody bright! Just search for 501 cree led on ebay but look for these. THE SIZE IS VERY IMPORTANT. The width cant be more than 12 mm or they won't go into the headlight.(http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i132/kevshek/V%20Strom/Service%20Record/2014-09-10-10-39-48_zpstweduxiu.png)
Heres the current link.

I have to say that looks awesome - BUT.....
...aren't you concerned that some people might confuse you with a BMW rider? :whistling:

Oooooh yeah, didn't think of that. :hammer:
Err it says they are 15mm???
Link changed
Phew well saved, don't think anyone noticed :mfr_lol:
My mistake seem to be just under 12mm better get some glasses ;)
kev, what do you think to just fitting these? just to get the look and the extra daytime visability?
would I still need to dismantle the headlight glass ?

Yeah you'd still need to dismantle the headlight to fit those, but they are more for the bike that already have projectors like the R1s. There isn't any lamp housing to fit those onto, you couldn't suspend them in mid air.

thanks kev, much appreciated , you need to change your screen name to " The Modfather"
how come your headlights, the bit within the angel eye looks blue when they are non illuminated, it looks cool but not sure , could mine be clear ? your contribution is much appreciated and for me this is when bike forums are at their best!

:agree:
Haha I earned the name Modfather years ago when I used to mess on with Nissan Primeras on another forum. Nothing changed, just messing with a different type of vehicle.
The blue glow you see is what they call "demon eyes" It's another LED I side the projector lense which emits a glow. You can select different colour like red or green etc. Blue matches my bike :)

I believe the blue is quite legal, am I right on this ?
Erm dunno :whistling:
cant see the link for the blue kit, any chance of posting it?
It's the actual projector lights themselves. You can select what colours you want for the angel and demon eyes the option are on the auction, you just enclose what you want with your payment in the message field.
Some night pics of the lights

Looks spooky .. especially through the vents in the fairing !
Just a thought:
How do you feel about the possibility of blinding motorists coming in the opposite direction at night - especially if cornering?
I only ask because I always felt a bit guilty with my bi-xenon setup. Wasn't as cleverly done as yours, granted :) But I always avoided riding at night with them on, and always pointed them lower than strictly correct. They really are very bright, and I would hate to be going round a corner at night and have a motorist come into my lane etc. because they couldn't see properly...
If you look at your third picture, with the bike on the side stand, you can see the right hand side is lit up really well. It looks amazing and you will definitely be seen.
Regarding my bi-xenons, I have removed them now because one of the "bulbs" failed and I was riding around with effectively one eye... The easiest thing was to remove everything and stick the original bulbs back in...
Anyway - cheers
Ros
The key is to have your light adjusted right, but like any other vehicle, 4x4, hgv etc there comes a momentary point when your lights will, for a split second dazzle oncoming traffic. Weve all suffered it. Ive taken time to check and adjust my light, learning from feedback I get on the road (i.e. frantic flashing from oncoming drivers lol)
