Well, exactly 2 years to the day my fob/transponder finally came up with " Transponder Battery Low " ... Which then flashed continually all the way into work ... Changed immediately from my top box supply of goodies ... But not bad I thought ... Almost daily use for 2 years !
Yep me too last year.
unfortuantely, since my accident, I am having nothing but problems with the Fob. its eating a battery a week
I guess I landed on the fob and damaged it so its sending a permanent signal so need a new fob. :-(
I'll get it sorted eventually, just a pain at the moment.
Neil
Neil that is strange .... Being serious for a moment you do keep the fob "away" from the bike when not in use ? A battery a week is bang out of order.
The fob is kept in my jacket or at this moment is sat in front of me, as I washed the bike yesterday and needed the fob.
I have spoken to Bournemouth Kawasaki and they in turn spoken to Kawasaki, but they have never heard of it, and to be fair in 4.5 years of being on either this or the old GTR forum, noone has ever come up with any problems to do with the fob its self.
(touch wood) I am not having a problem with the bike - ie battery, so it can only be the fob :-(
I have tried several cheap batteries - ie. £2, £3 and £4 and thought that might be the problem so went to H Samual and bought a £10 battery and that did exactly the same ;-(.
Oh well. Guess I'll be forking out for a new fob. :-(
Neil
I changed my battery a couple of months ago now the key will not release from the ignition barrel so i have to use the key in the fob, does anyone have any idea why this has happened.
Could be a duff battery or the battery was put in upside down? have you taken it apart and had a look?
Neil
The correct battery is a CR2025, but the more common CR2032 fits just as well and has a slightly greater capacity. Works well enough for me.
The 2032 is fitted to lots of computer motherboards and they seem to be on sale in all the supermarkets etc
Thanks Burchy .. I need a replacement so nice to get the right one.
I will have a look at the fob this weekend, thanks for the info
To my eternal shame, I got the bike out of the garage for the first time since before Xmas :embarrassed:, lo and behold 'low transponder battery'.
Now the bike is only a year old, I needed to make sure it started for the service next Monday. I had a 2032 battery in the cupboard which fitted fine.
A bit of on-line googling found that the 2032 has a slightly higher amp/hour rating, so should last longer and some people mentioned increased range, but this may have been because the batteries were new, or indeed better quality.
Note to all us men, the 2032 I had was a spare for Mrs Doebag's kitchen scales, so if needed, you know where to look.
The 2032 battery won't affect the range of the transponder - thats down to the transponder itself, but it will help with longevity.
The "correct" battery is a CR2025, but all these numbers mean is that the battery, in this case, is 20mm across and 2.5mm thick. You have fitted one that is a tad thicker (so have I) but the casing takes it perfectly. Voltages are the same
It also helps if you fit a branded CR2032 rather than a cheapie.

:agree: chepo varieties are just that
I bought a spare fob battery so has to have one in stock when the original one croaks, But I left it in the garage and put a magnetic tank bag on top of it for about 2 weeks, after much searching I found it stuck to the magnet, Will the magnet have killed the new battery?

No, it should be fine.
Thanks George
