So how many miles do you reckon to get out of a front set of disk pads?
Five thousand, ten thousand?
Alan
I've had the current GTR a year as of next week and done about 7k approx miles on it. The brake pads front and rear are still going very strong. So I envisage them lasting easily the same sort of mileage again. I don't know if thats good or bad, perhaps some make them last four times what I will.
Well I have 8k on and admittedly a lot of this has been in traffice stop start stuff and I need new pads all round.
Alan
it's impossible to put a mileage on brake pads, that will depend on how you ride  solo, 2 up, fully loaded and type of pads you use. I did 10,000 miles on my 2008 zzr1400 and when I sold the bike they were approx half worn. did 7,500 miles on my gtr1400 and they were about the same and both sets of pads were the original kawasaki one's, I'm not a mad rider  but I like to get a move on now and again :whistling: so I estimate average riding, breaking from high speed now and again :whistling: and reading the traffic well in advance so your not always on the brakes or very little in traffic! I reckon you would get 15,000 miles from the kawasaki standard fit one's
I used to get 5 to 6k out of mine
- 13,000 miles and still on original brake pads.
- its how you ride i reckon.
.
16500, looked at and cleaned the calipers only last week, pads are about half worn. couldn't agree more with you Pistole, nice and smooth, and just flooooooooooooow, it's good for the rest of the bike and fuel consumption, as well as discs and pads.

Asif.. I would have thought your brake pads would have lasted as long as your bike!! :mfr_lol:

- really agree.
- its something of a personal challenge to go through a series of familiar roads without ever touching the brakes.

I brake every time I catch up to slow riders and I can't overtake. Like those magnesium riders ...

see your barrel scraping again.. :whistling:
My front pads were not replaced till 16000 mile service BUT I do a fair bit of dual carriageway and motorway stuff so hardly surprising !
Finally got around to buying the extra 2 years warranty today ... Can,t believe its been 2 years !
I recon between 12-15k but I clean my calipers every 1500 miles. use tooth brush to clean the calipers / wire brush to clean the pads.
Just keep and eye on them. Kawasaki brakes (in my opinion) are the best brakes I've ever had from the budget Z750R to the ZX10 or the GTR.

Dave, give Asif some credit, he can ride fast and does ride fast. Why, I can remember quite clearly a ride from the Bridge with him & Geoff and Sidders when he was zipping through the villages, not a care in the world. At a stopping place I said to Asif, bloody hell you were flying along there, how fast were you going when you passed the speed camera van? His reply was priceless. What speed camera van? He was going that fast the speed camera van missed him & he missed it!!

steve I'm sure and certainly hope that asif knows it's only banter  I'm sure asif can ride fast and most likely I would be in his mirror if we were to ride together again  have got more sense now than to race around  ly the grave yard is full of fast riders  I'm also a wear.. that if, asif was lagging behind on the A41 after joining off the M54 it would have been due to him being the 3rd of 3 riders and was caught with roundabout traffic at least 3 times that I was a wear off
third set pf pads and second set of discs on my 2011 model in 12,500 miles. Kawasaki recognise there are some problems with the compounds on these bikes brakes and Colchester Kawasaki have been brilliant for sorting me out parts under warranty.

Its good that your dealer has sorted things under warranty EB, but I'm sure its still a bit annoying that you've experienced this 'problem'
Same model bike - 10500 miles and still on the original pads - What am I doing wrong?
New to the GTR (had it a month and done 4000km on it) - but I've done 60,000km in 2 years on my previous bike (2003 FJR1300) and I've only swapped them out once on that bike (Australian roads, ride every day to work and weekend rides every weekend). They were swapped at 60,000km and it's got 105,000km on it now. Still heaps to go!. I don't do track - commute and touring only - but I would be very annoyed if I cant get similar from the GTR!.

No probs with my magnesium coloured 2010 model but the green ones use pads and discs it seems like they are made of blancmange.
But Colchester KAWASAKI have been great about it.

I get around 4K out of mine. The discs last about 8K.
After 25K I'm on my third set of discs with another set due soon, all replaced under warranty.
Before anyone thinks my riding style is poor, I had an FJR before this, doing the same roads, same riding style, and got 10K out of the pads and was on the same discs after 60K.
And don't get me started on wheel bearings. Third set of those too.
1Ka it's exactly the same for me. I have a garage of bikes, and ridden 26,000 on a 2009/10 model gtr1400 with no probs at all but this bike is a problem. funnily enough last time we replaced the pads there wasn't a drop of grease/copper slip to be seen behind the pad at all. Could be that the loss of this is causing binding wear.
