Title: givi monokey rack
Post by: half man half pie on March 04, 2013, 09:23:53 PM
Having bought a sport tourer I developed the romantic notion of doing a small bit of touring. To increase capacity I purchased a Givi mono key top box that came with a Givi adaptor plate to fix to the back rack.  Having looked on the forum it seemed that most had gone for what looked like another rack for more security/safety due to the standard rack being plastic. This new rack appeared to loop around the existing rack.
Some on the forum had gone the Motech route with their ALU plate that replaces then standard rack.
With their Givi adaptor plate on top, it gives a stylish look and fits really well and doesn't look like another rack has been fitted.
The adaptor plate that fastens to the rack can be removed easily as it fastens with three quarter turn fastenings to leave what looks like the original rack plate.
I only fitted it tonight so will see what its like  on the road in the next couple of days

I have been for a qick ride out with the rack an top box and it works a treat.  No problems or vibration.  No wobble either
I tried to upload some pics before without success so I hope these work.

The box fastens to the plate as usual with the little lugs at the back of the rack fitting into the slots in the box

the top plate comes off quickly if I want it off and the whole things is nice and slim with no other bars etc

There is a tongue in the top plate that fits into the slot in the rack to help stability so it isnt just down to the 3 quick release fastenings

Good Job, the more rigid plate replacing the shite Kawasaki top box plate obviously offers more stability and looks neat too

Looks like i may need one too, i was initially gonna bolt the monorack to the original one but it doesnt look like its gonna hold much weight. How much was the plate?

The ALU rack was £94 with the adaptor plate £28.
I tried fitting the Givi plate to the stock rack but I had no confidence in it as it fastened with 2 thin bolts and the stock rack is plastic.
The ALU one is as it says aluminium and is a simple bolt in replacement.
I tried a few places for the rack but couldn't find any in stock. Delivery was only 10 days so not that bad.
Both came from chainspeed
I have a knack of things not fitting or working properly but these went on very easily and work !

my kawasaki monolock goes straight onto this, its a combination of the two racks, the original gtr plate and the monolock adaptor plate, one rack attached to the bike
