To all our Scottish members and anyone else in the know, how does the Scottish house buying practice work?
Some house are advertised, offers over, some are advertised in the region of, but I seem to think the Scottish method has some strange and unique practice of putting offers in, does anyone know how it works please?
my understanding.... but it cold have changed....... is that before you put in an offer you need to have surveyd/ searches etc done, and once an offer is accepted it is binding and not revocable.
But no doubt someone who knows better will arrive soon.

I've been looking at some properties up there and I like what I see. Just a pipe dream at this stage but you never know. :whistling:

Property in Scotland used to be very good value for money Steve, ....is that still the case ?
Depends I suppose where you look, location, location, location, as they say. I've been looking at some properties on the West coast at Port Patrick they seem reasonably priced to me.
If you move to Scotland we want pics of you in a kilt :whistling: :mfr_lol:

LW, you buy that and I'm coming to stay!
If he buys THAT we are ALL going to stay. :mfr_lol: Kin ell it's bigger than my mansion, and Rogers palace put together :mfr_lol:.
I must be in the wrong job. How are you lot affording mansions and palaces?!
Think of the size of the Rev Shed I could have built. :mfr_lol: I'd settle though for just piece and quiet, no Police sirens, litter, drunks etc. Sheer bliss.
And I always thought the Police were paid peanuts  :hammer: :mfr_lol:

That looks like a stunning place Steve, and in many ways very much like houses in Northern Ireland where I planned to live once upon a time, I even went viewing and actually put in an offer on one property, but that's a few years ago now.
At that price its very good value for money....what are ya waiting for mate

I think he's pulling your wand Rog :whistling:
Six acres = DIRT BIKES!
Mind you the man shed is a bit small at 20ft x 15ft, needs an extension I think.
Steve, are you thinking of a bolt hole/ new home because your 'Caped Crusader' cover has been blown in Bradford? :mfr_lol:
Andy, I forgot they had CCTV there. Nice costume eh? :mfr_lol:
I can't afford a bolt hole of this standard it'd be a relocation.
Rusty
Whats up with Scotland. You have obviously never been if your saying dont as we have some roads to die for. All good biking roads are not south of the border. But you better not try it in case you like it! :gunsmilie:
:185: Johnnie boy, .....another new member to this excellent forum,
Hey J Boy .... I would have said that where ever he wanted to move to !!! I love Scotland to bits and, as you say the roads are without doubt some of the best ever ! Get used to me taking the piss .. especially out of those I get on with .. which is most people here actually !! :mfr_lol: :mfr_lol:
He's ok is Rusty........for a bloody southerner. :mfr_lol:
Hi All I am born and bred and lived in Scotland my whole life and have ridden :biker3: all over the UK some good and bad everywhere (scenery & people), although ridding through Glen Coe and surrounding areas and West Coast is like nowhere else.... I am sure anybody here who has been knows what I am on about.
Been to Glencoe a few times and also Port Patrick on the west coast in addition to many other locations in Scotland. When I was a bairn I even used to live up that way. It's simply stunning.
Back in the mid-80s I spent 3 weeks riding the Highlands.
Went as far north as Durness, and a day trip to Skye (was before the Skye Bridge).
Best fun road was the Applecross pass and I ended up spending nearly a week in Applecross.
Traffic????? What's that? Stay away from Inverness and Fort William and there isn't any.
So much so that you find yourself waving at everyone as it can feel a little lonely and isolated up there.
Now if you could just do something about the :censored: awful weather and the damned Miggies I'd be there every year.
The whole of North West Scotland was drier and sunnier than anywhere else in the UK last year. Although normal weather apart scenery and roads can't be beaten IMHO. As for the midges are you a man or a mouse lol
How can you deny yourself views such as these........ The last one is me, knackered, after an 1100 mile ride. :sleep1:

Fantastic place, great roads and the scenery - Stunning.
I'm with George though - Rain and Midges stopped me visiting. Had two years on the bounce with horrific biblical rain and one year when I ended up on sick due to a festering midge bite.
Lovely place though.
Sorry, from an architectural point of view, this house is big and very disappointing and lacks any architectural creativity. :-(
whats there is nicely done, but looks like its been drawn in a CAD/CAM package as a training exersize and dumped in the middle of a field.
if it was a converted barn, I could understand it, but the architect needs to be shot!
Sorry.
Neil
Neil ... I have just been on the link and requested a viewing for you ... I promised the vendor that you would leave the Purdy at home !
Neil, if you think that house is uninspiring you should see what we have to live in in Bradford! :mfr_lol:
Just tell him I have a rope for him to hang himself. Better to commit Hari Cari rather than someone else to shoot you!. It has purpose. ;-)
with regards to Bradford......no comment, I got satnav lost on my way home in Bradford on Friday, I didn't want to stop in case my wheels got stolen! :-)

Steve, that first picture That is one hell of a tennis court :whistling:
Yes, thats why we're considering on moving into OC's Rev Shed! ;-)
it has heaters under the bikes, clean and tidy..... and a view.... well it might not be across the lake but it is in a valley, but a couple of miles up the road is something similar!
What a summer it has the potential of being! :-)
Neil
So are you going to live in the lakes Neil?
I start work in the lakes on Tuesday!
4 week trial period, in hotels, then a decision has to be made whether I can make it work or not.
If I make it work - lock stock and 3 kawasaki's will be heading to the lakes! potentially - permanently!
not sure whether its :-) or :-( Just very nervous!
Neil
Very nice, All the very best of luck with that, I'll bet you are really exited. I hope you adjust/like the work side of it. I dont think for one second that you will find it anything other than a fantastic place to live, far from the madding crowd, and of course it is a motorcyclists paradise all around that region. And who knows you may even enjoy rides out with the pink armband crew. Enjoy

I have to agree with Neil, not the most inspiring design. It surely has come from the Argos book of house designs where you pick a picture and have it built.
It surely cannot be too hard to employ an architect to draw a bespoke design, in the total land buy/build cost it won't be that much of a precentage.
Anyway, sorry if it's off thread, but I am off to build a copy with my son's Lego.

this has more architectural merit!

and a half a million "as artwork" few of us could afford it. just think how many GTR's we could buy - 50 second hand, enough to fill OC's rev shed! just about.
:-)
It should have been made out of GREEN Lego :mfr_lol:
:ohplease: so far nobody has actually told me how the house buying business is conducted in Scotland! :whistling:
LOL - perhaps thats because you shouldn't do it. :-)
Come on someone .. please tell him what to do .... PortPatrick looks really nice ... Steve is busting to put a deposit down
