Been in contact with Ryan over the pond.

There's a thread going on over on the GTR forum in the States, a guy has posted pics of his bike fitted with canyon cages ( not the police ones that stick out) it went down low speed and ended up , upside down in a ditch... only damage was scrapes on the canyon cages and rear saddlebag protectors... and a scrape on the mirror casing....
Here's the link http://www.zggtr.org/index.php?topic=10220.msg124539#msg124539
I've had no success in getting a reply from Top Block over in France  it seems that customer service is low down the agenda....
Best I can do with wangling a discount with genuine Kawaski slide protectors is around £350
Anyway... got a quote from Ryan for my 2009
Canyon cages cost 275 US Dollars , postage 89.50 US Dollars making a total of approx £250
Canyon cages and saddlebag hoops 275 + 175, and 106.50 postage making a total of £370 approx
Now that price is comparable to the Kawasaki items and I'm sure will provide more protection .....
Edit : Still too much money so dropping the idea
you need to factor in customs (5%), handling charge and 20% VAT on the whole lot
And local shipping costs
The front and back are 450 USD plus shipping, which equates to £300 plus shipping... add 25% for customs and VAT and its looking mighty expensive...
probably around £450 all in
Asif is right, I costed it up and it's expensive, that's why I have a camaraman mate who works both here and in the USA and he is bringing me a set back in the lighting cases where they will look like any other mounting chassis.
I have to wait until June though.
Alan
You're still talking £300 for a full set if you walk in to the shop :undecided:
Too expensive for me even if we get a discount
So the idea is off
whats wrong with the adventure bars at £200

Nothing, but I reckon the front canyon versions would be stronger on more than a little drop, plus I prefer the lines of the Amurrican version, I won't be taking the rear cage options either.
Alan
The adventure bars are only for 2010 onwards.. No good for mine :undecided:

Hi Bryn,
Incorrect, they do make them for the 2008/2009 models, check the link:

You will need to use the drop down box and input your bike details
Cheers

- i think what was meant by "adventure bars" is as above (ie , the one made by R&G for the GTR).
- the "Canyon Cages" is that big metal contraption thing .... together with the metal loop which protects the bags.
.
Just fitted a set of R & G adventure bars to my black GTR and i am very
pleased with how they look .Took about 1 hr to fit. I bought them
at the bike show in November and got a good deal @ £185 inc postage

Did you cut the front of the side panels which enables you to remove them without taking off the adventure bars?
Also, can you get a picture from behind where your legs would be, i want to compare then angle wise with the canyon cages.
thanks
Alan
Hi Alan
No did not cut the side panels, I,m not into cutting plastics prefer them as original
Its not a big job to take off the bars.I will take a pic for you so you can compare them with
the canyon cages
Cheers Dave
Alan,
Couple of pics that I promised you ,hope they are of some use
Dave

:agree: :mfr_lol: :mfr_lol:
Got a reply from Top Block.... 525 Euro posted
That works out something like £470
Anyway... now got a pair of R&G Aero bungs... A third of the price... hopefully at least half the protection :mfr_lol:
As I saved £105 on my insurance today with Auntie Carol £180.76 instead of the renewal of £284.50 I decided to splash out on some R&G Adventure bars, being a cheeky git I emailed a company on eBay who were selling them for £199 and offered £185, they said yes and the deal was done.
A happy chappy am I.
Alan
im doing the adventure bars this year
I`m interested in a set of Canyon Cages for my 2008 GTR 1400 which has been lowered by about 2cm or 20mm.
Has anyone fitted them to a lowered GTR? Will there be enough ground clearance when she`s lent over? :ohplease:

The lowered bike should not be a problem as it's the entire bike that is lower to the ground, hero pegs, mirrors, and guards included. This means that the point in which they hit the ground changes slightly, not the order in which they hit meaning the guards will still work as intended. So, your lean angle may be slightly affected (which it always is with a lowered bike, with or without fairing protection) but the guards themselves won't make the lean angle any worse. The only reason the lean angle is affected at all is because you've made the parts that scrape first even lower/closer to the ground. We design our guards so the hero peg (that little nub that stick out the bottom of the pegs) is the first thing to scrape followed by the guard itself which holds everything else off the ground including the exhaust, mirrors, handle bars, etc. This relation does not change regardless of bike height. We design our accessories this way because the hero peg is a sort of warning system to tell you that you're leaned very far over and getting close to the cages. So, if you're happy with your lean capabilities with the lowered bike without the protection, you'll be happy with it with the protection as the protection itself won't effect your lean angle capabilities.
Whats the prices of all these bars and bungs

I know the front and rear shipped to the UK for myself is coming in at around £400 - Ryan's guys are in the process of manufacturing a set for me currently.

Thanks for that Ryan, will have to give these cages some serious thought
Sent an email to R&G racing products to see if they have any plans on producing some adventure bars for the GTR1400 2008 model in the near future, similar to the 2010 bars.
This was their reply:
"We are looking in to this at the moment and hopefully they will be ready within a few months.
Best bet is to keep an eye on the website."
So might hang back on the Canyon`s for the time been and see what R&G come up with.
I like your garage Mobi .... Bike lift, tiled floor with roller garage door too .... Nice !
