Title: Canyon Cage & Hwy Peg Installation
Post by: Highett on February 20, 2013, 12:20:03 PM
I have the GTR home now from the bike shop, with all the repairs done from my recent wildlife encounter, its now time to start fitting all my accessories, old and new, getting ready for my upcoming 9,000km ride - I hit the road 1st Jan.

Today's job,
1. Fit front Canyon Cages - Supplier MC Enterprises
2. Mod RH & LH center cowling so they can be fitted and removed without removing the Canyon Cages
3. Fit anti vibration hwy pegs - Supplier Rivco
4. Fit rear pannier protection - Supplier MC Enterprises

I did the research, read every post I could find regarding installing the Canyon Cages, what worked what didn't etc.

The installation instructions from MC Enterprises calls for the cowling to be left on the bike, from what I read it was a major fiddle job to install them, then when you want to take the cowlings off to do a service you had to remove the canyon cage before you could get the cowling off.

To much like repeated hard work,

I read that there was a mod which involved cutting a 25mm slot between the top and second fin, this mod would allow fitting and removal without having to remove the cages, so a bit more reading and thats the way I went.

I decided that I would remove the RH & LH center cowlings and install the Cages then mod the cowlings and fit them.

I can say that it works and the centre cowlings are not much harder to fit and remove with the cages on than they are with the cages off, just a little bit more fiddly.

Here are my photos:

I will have some Canyon cages soon when a mate of mine goes to the USA and brings them back for me, so your saying just cut the front section of the fairing and then with some skilful handiwork they fit as they should?

Seems like a no brainer to me especially if you have to remove bolts and stuff to get at an air filter for example.

Yes,

I have found that the easiest way after all the screws and rivets are removed is to sit on a low stool or 20 liter bucket, release the lower tabs and just slide it out, it does need to be done in a rearward, upward direction.

Hard to explain but it is not really any harder than doing it with out the cages, just the way you do it is a little different.

It's worse when you drop one, Call it Murphy's law or what ever but they always seem to drop inside the fairing and you end up pulling the bike apart trying to find it.
