Was on the motorway when suddenly the the windshield suddenly collapses forward. The mechanism still moves the screen up and down, however it is now titled like its on a sports bike. On further inspection, it seems the mount assy has collapsed. I'm hoping its something simple like a bolt has worked its way loose because you have to replace the whole assy at a cost of £682
Actually, I did take out extended warranty so that should cover it, but its annoying none the less.
Not good...never heard of a windshield assembly collapsing before, let us know how you get on, and what he root cause is....this is something I'd keep an eye on ???
Just been checking the US forum and it appears a few on there have had the same problem. Some C-Ring that is poorly designed I think. I don't move my shield at speed and I'm wondering if we're going to see this more on high mileage bikes.
NB, you are certainly getting your monies worth out of that extended warranty, you've almost rebuilt that GTR. ;D
PS, Gonna send you a PM as well with something that might be of interest to you.
The extended warranty has come in use. So far both TPS sensor, the display and now the windshield assy. Over 1.5k worth of work for a few hundred quid.
Still peeved off at the mechanism failing though.
Sorry to hear that ... lucky it didn't come away and cause an injury ... the extended K care warranty sounds good though !
Took it to my dealer earlier. It felt like some bolt had come loose but on closer inspection looks like some metal bracket has snapped due to stress.

Too much speed do you think ;)
Have you got the extended screen NB?
Me thinks I better keep oem screen to hand so that if same happens to me I can quickly sway the Cee Baileys ultra tour before getting it looked at ;)
Here's some pics of the fault.
Where I've highlighted with the green circle, that's where I believe the issue to be, otherwise I can see the reason for having a hole drilled on a mechanism that moves up and down on a trolley.
I may be wrong and the issue maybe elsewhere, but everything else looked OK.

This is what it looks like collapsed (i.e. top of mechanism pushed forward towards rider)

Again, from a side view this is how it should be

But this is how it ends up once collapsed

Anyone care to take their working screen off so I can see what goes there?
NB, this looks like a simple fix.

There should be what can best be described as a nylon/plastic plug in the now empty hole on your mechanism. Perhaps that just keeps it running true and vertically as opposed to flopping about.

The last close up pic tells the full story. A plastic block sits behind the vertical arm and pins the two parts together.
Thank you for doing those pics steve. I was at the dealer this morning and we took some pics of the damage. The bracket itself has snapped which must hold in place that plastic plug.

No worries, glad to be of assistance if I was.
I can just imagine the faces though on the poor staff at Autorama everytime you pull onto their forecourt.
They'll be saying, "Him & his bloody extended warranty". ;D
If you have it, you might as well damn well use it is my motto.. :)
I have to say Autorama have been great so far. They'll be definitely getting my custom for my next bikes (ZZR and new GTR at some point)
The dealer is trying to see if he can get the bracket standalone. I've rung and informed him of the nylon plastic bit that goes with the bracket that we also need to get.
Fingers crossed should be sorted soon.
Makes you wonder if putting bigger screens on is a wise thing to to. Possibly effect your warranty too.
You'd think though wouldn't you that a slightly larger screen, would not cause any major dramas. Its probably just a bit of normal wear and tear. My bikes the same age I think as NB's and there's nowt wrong with my equipment. ;D
more screen = more force :-\
Its covered by warranty and I expect to have it replaced sometime this week.
Bigger screens do equal more force. The mechanism is the same on all model and on 2010 onwards the bikes are fitted with bigger screens.
I think we'll see more off this issue shortly. Apparently there was another one that was broken from the mounting.
Nb, out of interest, did it give you any warning that a problem was brewing? Or was it a case of working one minute, and then it wasnt?
None whatsoever. Working one sec, next my head is being battered by strong penine wind
Be interesting to know if it's only happened to Bikes with aftermarket Screens or not.
On the US site there's plenty of riders with the big Calsci & Cee Baileys screens with high mileage who haven't had any problem. If you have the screen fully extended at high speed then that will put additional force on the bracket.
Just done an impulse buy and purchased the MRA Vario.
