i wouldnt advise any actually bolts down their throttle, most manual cruise controls have some type of quick release ect. the throttle mesister uses low friction against the rubber of the throttle so can be " twisted " back while still engaged.
this death trap could tighten up with handle bar buzz, stick , knob snap , thread stick ,
dangerous in my opinion . i wonder what his insurance company would make of it , if involved in an incident
I said yesterday that MG one day would invent the mod that we were all looking for.
I could be wrong here  but I dont think this is "the one".
MG - this is not a safe mod. In italian its a :nono:
In my simples world the only thing I want controlling my throttle is my wrist!
The criticisms are constructive, for now, thanks.
Then you take out your insecurities caused by lack of knowledge of such mechanics.
To understand just remove the cover where you installed the cruiser.

Not for me.
I can envisage a number of potentially fatal scenarios.
All you really need to do is tighten it just enough so the throttle doesn't move when you take the hand off.
And as long as you can still shut the throttle (even if it takes a bit of force) I can't see this as being dangerous at all.
Nothing for the pink armband patrol, but if you do long motorway trips because the bike is not only for fun but also a means of transport I can see this is a clever and cheap mod.
Well done!
Just for once I'm speechless !

LOOKS POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS TO ME.

this is similair in principle to a throttle mesister. however the TM is an adjustable bar end that grips a rubber gland against the rubber of your throttle grip, rubber on rubber can easily be defeated should you need to snatch a handful of brake.
A frickin big bolt may tighten up and not be defeated in a situation.
just get yourself a TM or invest in a fully integrated CC like a car one. mine was about £140 to buy from the states and has all the safety systems that a car one has .
one day MG will disapear from this site because he has killed himself, i recall the controversial video where he was sat on his pillion seat , no hands on the bars, throtle bolTed down, on The public highway ,
ive just had a look at his youtube channel and there is another video of exactly where his death bolt actually goes into the throttle, it looks to me as if it grips onto the actual cable or at the very least the bolt is rubbing against his cable, thats asking for a broken cable in time , probably just at the moment when you are attempting an overtake.
MG, i know that we can be a tough crowd on you at times, but seriously dude , youve gone too far with this one !
his post should be removed , before some idiot copies him and kills them selves and one of us as well,
still think its a good idea mecki ?

MG, I agree with the majority of others on here, I think its a dangerous idea.
However a similar feature does exist in plenty 1960s -70s machines where a small threaded bolt with locknut, usually located under the throttle action, exists, it was designed to provide friction to the throttle action, and thereby allow the throttle to stay open when the rider was using his/her hands for giving turn signals. so its not such a radical idea after all.
I think that its potentially a dangerous modification on today's high powered machines
My right hand controls two things, the throttle turn and one other movement i could not possibly mention on a family site.

cruise control on a motorcycle should only be designed and fitted by the manufacturer at the factory and should automatically cut off when the rear brake or front brakes or the clutch is disengaged. my car as cruise control, and as soon as the brakes are applied or the clutch is disengaged it automatically cuts the cruise control off  some cruise control have "Adaptive cruise control" which monitors the road ahead using a radar sensor and adjusts the speed of the vehicle to keep it at a safe distance. anything that's holds your the throttle open by means of a screw which needs to be manually loosened "even slightly" to shut of the power on a motorcyle is potentially lethal  it will only take a momentary lapse of concentration and your "history" so that idea is defo a :nono: for me  there is a very simple and very cheap solution to relieving aching wrists and numb fingers on longer motorway riding  just get yourself one of theses..

They fit the same thing on BMW's at work, and I have never worked out why. They are only used to wind your mates up by winding the throttle back when their in the cafe for when they start up.
For my ten pence worth, I have really been trying hard to save fuel and will sit at 55 mph on the motorway going home from work at midnight and it is so boring and tiring on the hands. I'd be quite happy to use an item like this when safe to do so. I think you have all forgotten that its the clutch that controls the motorbike speed not the throttle. You pull that clutch in and it doesn't matter what the rev's are on you won't have any drive.
I think the bolt could be ground down to an almost point so there is less friction taking less to turn it back if needed.
99.9% of the time it may work just fine and there may be no problems at all. It only takes one occasion though to let you down and then its too late, game over!
my main issue is that the bolt is gripping against the throttle cable and thus wearing it away over time

don't mean to be negative about your idea :nono: but I think there is a safety issue here. you took your hand of the bars  now you may have just been showing that it works, but won't this encourage you to remove your hand from the bars more often. now I don't know about you, but I have lost count of how many times have run over a small hole in the road or a stone or just a uneven road surface and I remember saying to myself.. thank god it was not when I was lifting my visor up or scratching my nose or bollocks  you need both hands on the bars at all times and anything that can discourage you from keeping both hands firmly on both bars is a bloody bad idea  at work I also ride the b.m.w rt1200 and it as a similar cruise control set up and I prefer not to use it for the same reason.

You spent £1000s on buying the bike, so why fit a cheap throttle lock when so many decent ones already exist in several price brackets.
Cheapest is the plastic "throttle rockers" which clip around the throttle and you rest your wrist on the tang to hold the throttle in place. $10
http://www.motorcycle-superstore.com/3/13/121/56651/ITEM/Kuryakyn-Throttle-Rocker.aspx?SiteID=SLI|Throttle%20Control&WT.MC_ID=10010 (http://www.motorcycle-superstore.com/3/13/121/56651/ITEM/Kuryakyn-Throttle-Rocker.aspx?SiteID=SLI%7CThrottle%20Control&WT.MC_ID=10010)
Also available are the friction grip type that rest against your brake lever to hold the throttle in place.
Effective but dangerous as both these types can jam the throttle.
Then there is a the Vista Cruise style for $25-$35
http://www.casporttouring.com/store/merchant.mvc?store_code=CST&screen=PROD&product_code=16022 (http://www.casporttouring.com/store/merchant.mvc?store_code=CST&screen=PROD&product_code=16022)
For $120 you can get the ThrottleMeister (what I have fitted to my GTR1000, and also fits the 1400) or the Manic Salamander.
http://throttlemeister.com/ (http://throttlemeister.com/)
http://www.manicsalamander.com (http://www.manicsalamander.com)
I like this type of Throttle Lock as it is all but invisible and the throttle can be easily closed or adjusted when it is "locked".
This is a true hands-off throttle lock where many of the others are merely a different way to hold the throttle.
You can get Electronic Cruise Control systems from $170 to £500.
http://www.murphskits.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=130_133&products_id=422 (http://www.murphskits.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=130_133&products_id=422)
http://www.motorcyclecruise.co.uk/ (http://www.motorcyclecruise.co.uk/)
http://www.mccruise.com/ (http://www.mccruise.com/)
These are by no means safer than the throttle locks as in some circumstances they can actually jam your throttle open and cannot be overridden.
If you don't believe me just Google "runaway cruise control". They will turn off when you brake and will hold a constant speed where a throttle lock will slow down when going uphill.
Finally, if you absolutely insist on being a cheapskate then this is for you.
http://www.ofb.net/~sethml/motorcycle/throttle-lock/ (http://www.ofb.net/~sethml/motorcycle/throttle-lock/)
or you can just buy an O-ring that rests on your bar-end when not in use and jams between the grip and bar-end to lock the throttle.
This bright Yellow one is popular

Remember, a throttle lock is dangerous so PAY ATTENTION.
Please only use on motorways, empty straight roads and nowhere else.
I've already been to enough funerals.
I have the Throttlemeister and like it a lot..
I dont use it that often but I find its good to use for when my wrist is aching from holding the throttle open.
The BMW K1300 that I owned came with Cruise Control as standard, it worked very well, but frankly I thought it was a pain in the arse so it rarely got used, I suppose that being a grumpy olde git I'm used to bikes without this feature :mfr_lol:

I copy and paste all your say, rightly security first.
My cruise is the result of my passion for doing, plus they are illegal and not to be imitated, I must admit that mechanically work well, but you need to have when you go in motion the brain always well lit.
MGvalerio.
Just my 2c worth - when I let go of the grip I want the throttle to snap shut instantly. I don't want to have to fiddle with a bolt, wind it back against friction or any other impediment - just snap shut.
I tried one of those cheap plastic throttle locks and promptly threw it in the bin. When I ride ( apart from accelerating through the gears, overtaking etc ) I pretty much just have both palms loosely draped on the grips, not wrapped around the grips in death grip - I think this helps with not creating discomfort in my hands / wrists etc as well as better for bike control. If I do need to rest the throttle hand for a few sec just pull in the clutch and flex the right hand.
Having stated my dislike of such devices I realise many people like them and I think MGV's effort looks quite good for what it is - but really anything that stops the throttle closing by default seems wrong, you wouldn't disconnect your throttle return spring would you ?
End of rant - to each their own, ride your bike your way and be happy.

Max
