Title: Crash bungs
Post by: Bryn on January 21, 2013, 08:01:48 PM
I know there's canyon cages  etc....

Got an 09 and I'm leaning (get it ) towards a set of R&G bobbins, which need the fairing panel cutting...

Anyone gone along that route?

Not on the GTR, but I did on my Blackbird.

Just takes bottle to cut through the plastics!

Use a circular pipe drill!

I fitted RG crash bungs to my  07 GTR , no fairing chopping required

Yeah I've cut the middle fairing section - admittedly on the R1 but took half the weekend to determine the centre of the hole on the "inside" of the panel. I removed the engine mounting bolt and screwed in 6" of m12 threaded rod. I smeared the rod end with marmite (read on) Replaced panel and then unscrewed the rod till the rod end touched the panels inside face and nicely left a marmite circle. I then centre punched the fairing and used a stepped tank cutter to make the holes.
Last job was to lick clean the rod and cutting tool.

What a pullaver!

Thanks for the replies chaps.. I think the no cut one's would be a lot less hassle if they're still obtainable.

Edit..  Just looked on the R&G site and the no drill ones are not there..

That's what I have as well...haven't needed them, though.

Excellent idea for a fix there Tommy, I guess people are either going to love it, or hate it...
