Title: Hi from Virginia, US
Post by: virginiajim on January 16, 2013, 01:06:39 PM
I'm looking to broaden my horizons a bit so I'm going to spend some time over here.  Hoping to get some new ideas on the bike and possibly our forum (ZG/GTR) as well.  Got an 08 with 52K miles.  I must say I like your smiley collection.   Also, can someone tell me the rules on avatar selection?  I can't seem to upload one without an error.

By the way, I was born over here (Burderop Park AF Hospital), Wilts  to a USAF dad and English mother (Ipswich).  Spent time at RAF Greenham Common, RAF Upper Heyford, and RAF Sculthorpe in the late 50's and 60's.

If life had worked out differently, I may have been speaking English instead of American now.

The picture is coming in a bit on the large size...still trying to figure this out.  Ok, looks better.  This is my bike somewhere in Wyoming a couple of years ago.  I'm somewhere in the flowers taking the picture.

Welcome to the Forum Jim. Useful place for both information as well as banter. Where are you going to be based while over here? We have members spread across the UK as well as a good number of international members. I am sure you will get invitations from those living near to where you are going to be. I am on the south coast of England and always willing to arrange a visit or meet up.

Sorry about that, I meant forum wise, not in country  :embarrassed:.    I would love to come back for a visit but I've got some papers to straighten out first.  My Naturalization certificate has come up missing and I need that to get a passport.  I'm working on getting it replaced at the moment.

Hiya Jim, welcome aboard.

Gonome, I don't think he's coming to the UK, just joining us on this forum.

Jim :185: to the forum, a good idea of yours to see what happens on a forum on this side of the pond. I'm sure it will be of lots of assistance to you. Plus you could always give us a report on your 52 k on the conny. There is also lots of help and information on here if needed. If  you do ever visit England , myself and Old coney will give you a tour of the fantastic Yorkshire Dales/English lake district (am I right in volunteering you for that Rog/) with roads and vistas that would live with you forever. Enjoy your stay with us.   Regards Geoff

Jim welcome to the forum. The avatar needs to be a maximum of 65 x 65 pixels. I've had a look a few times at the US C14 forum and there are some excellent threads on there but one or two members seem a little too obsessed with their guns and the special deals Walmart are doing on ammo.... :mfr_lol: we dont tend to have threads like that over here. I can just imagine Tesco's selling ammo in Bradford......come to think of it it'd probably sell quite well.  :2guns:

You won't have to worry about me bringing up that subject here...  I've enough problems figuring out how to post a picture without it taking up the whole screen.  Thanks for the info on the avatar....I'll shrink it a bit more.

Ok, got the avatar thingy straightened out....now how does one post a picture here?  I've tried to attach but it takes up the entire screen.  Not exactly what I'm looking for, unfortunately.

I'd love that, but I'd have to borrow a bike...hopefully one of the faster colours.. Maybe ya'll can enlighten me on that as yours are different from ours over here.

Yes, we could sort that out Jim, If you were to borrow mine or Rogers, it would have to be green or erm, !! green. Now then Jim there will be lots of folk on here telling you that their bike colour is faster than everyone elses  :sleep1:, but let me tell you here and now mine goes faster than them all  :whistling:.

Only if it's British racing green....otherwise I think not.

All those bases are 'dead' now...  Only ones around now are Lakenheath and Croughton that I remember vaguely...  Went to 7th grade, briefly, at Lakenheath back in 1968.  We were bussed from Sculthorpe as they were still opening that base back up as an annex of Lakenheath (48th wing).

Lakenheath & Mildenhall are still in use by USAFE.
To my knowledge the only other active US base in the UK is Menwith Hill (Early Warning & SatComms)

Croughton is still there and operational...

It's a communications center for us (US).  Always has been.  I can remember that it had lots of antennas...  I think it also housed the high school for Heyford at one time or it may have been the other way around...
