Lane splitting isn't illegal here in the UK, and it does speed up the flow of traffic/motorcycles, I've done it myself, BUT, I only ever feel safer doing it when conditions are safe to do so, i.e when in standing or very slow moving traffic, at any other time I don't like it as I don't trust other motorists who are often busy using their mobile phones reading texts looking at paperwork or other stooopid actions, in short they aren't watching traffic and are likely to change lanes without any warning.

When riding out at weekends  on my own or frequently on a 'Pink armband' tour we don't ever encounter dual lane roads so lane splitting isn't an issue

On my bikesafe course the very nice 'occifer'  :whistling: said that if you filter more than 25mph then be expected to be nicked for undertaking...  :mfr_lol:

Yes done it also, and no the M25 where it's scary, I tend not to do it when cars are travelling much above 20mph as they have a habit of changing lanes, prefer when there stopped but still sometimes they hop out the door for a pee.

Experience helps I guess.

Take it easy out there.

I find these guys refreshing; good to see people actually assessing risk and taking responsibility for their actions.

What is this strange language regarding " lane splitting"?. Up here in the Dales, and the moors of North Yorkshire we just have roads where you go out and enjoy riding your bike, but we dont have to many other folk cluttering the roads up.                 Prey tell, am I missing out on something? :whistling: :undecided:

good points put forward there, having started my bike life on dirt bikes,(trials )you learn to always cover the front brake an clutch most of the time, and when im filtering i always do,,,even so,theres always some looney doing 30+mph down the middle of a lane,,i usually just cringe when i see this an think just as was said,"what if",,,the car sat in the car decides to get out to have a look up the road or something,,,,,,"bang"!,,,common sence should dictate to you weather its safe to proceed depending on lots of different factors,,,,that guy in the white leathers,,,,he likes to paddle dont he,,,like a bloody duck! lol

Filtering is legal in the UK.
Lane Splitting is legal in California.

To be more precise, it's not illegal in either.
Don't go over 40Mph or 20Mph faster than the cars.
Watch their front wheels as the wheel has to move before the car can cut you up.
Get used to the idea that  :censored: :asshole: will actively block you and other just won't know/care that you are there.
After a few minutes you will feel your brain speeding up to cope with the influx of information and it can be quite exhilarating.
It is also knackering.

If you can't concentrate to the level that's needed, don't do it.
You will end up under some truck wheels.

Mr Boomer is right ... you need the reactions of a cat to do it well.
More than 20 and get nicked for undertaking ?
That just goes to show what different views occifers of the law have on the same subject .... bit like IAM/ROSPA instructors !!!!   :whistling: :whistling:
