Set your Sky Box to record and record and record ........
Bring back Eddie the Eagle, bloody brilliant. :mfr_lol:

And for those of you who prefer to have a motor attached,...... Top Gear returns Sunday 27th Jan @ 8pm on BBC2.
Apparently the "Christmas Special" will be shown in mid-Feb because of that :censored: dance contest the BBC plaster across most of the weekend for a third of the year.
Top Gear, now you're talking.
Although I do enjoy strictly come dancing & dancing on ice!
I can find no valid reason to keep a telly plugged into the wall these days. Top gear is the only show worth watching... Pity I can't see that legally from here :(

Why not? We have a Freesat receiver at the caravan between Marseilles and Toulon and that gets BBC no problem.
Ya need a dish and a Freesat receiver. Our dish is a little one (90cm) so you may need a 1.2m dish.
So long as you can mount the dish so that it can point south yer good to go.

Ros.. Get yourself a Freesat box & dish from ebay...
You should align the dish carefully onto the Astra 2/Eurobird satellites that carry all the freesat TV and radio channels. These are the same satellites that are used to receive Sky TV. The freesat dish will need to be correctly aligned to an accuracy of better that half a degree!
The satellites are located between 28.2 - 28.5 degrees east of due south
If you get a small tele in view when you align the dish you will be able to see the quality OR get someone who installs sat tv and get them to align it for you
Skiing is great fun, been doing it since 1986 and even managed to get to the 1992 winter Olyimpics and stayed in Val D'Isere, we had the ladies freestyle gold medalist in our hotel and when she walked into the restaurant in the evening there was a big round of applause for her, the medal went all around the dining room.
Excellent fun skiing, best place for me so far is Steamboat in Colorado.
Alan
Heheh!! :mfr_lol:
Thanks for the advice about the Freesat box etc.
I have 2 of those, 2 satellite dishes and know the drill. Having lived for 13 years in France before moving here, I am well aware of how to get British stuff when it is necessary. However, there are 2 reasons for not setting it up here:
1) - 99% of what is on the telly is utter SHITE
2) - in order to pick up the satellites that I need, I require a 1.2m dish because I am now too far east. Not only that, my appartment faces in the wrong direction and I'm not allowed (yeah I know about the human rights thing too, but hey - this is Italia!) to stick a 1.2m dish on the other side of the building.
Furthermore, I don't want my wife sitting in front of the box all evening
I have a perfectly good THX home cinema and enjoy lots of films and some TV series... But that's only when I'm not out on the bike, in the music studio or otherwise engaging in food/wine events. Or at work...
Back to the OP's message: Ski Sunday was a BRILLIANT and much looked forward to show - particularly when I was young and there was David Vine doing the commentary. Franz Klammer coming belting out of the start hut "And here comes the big man himself!" and Alberto Tomba tearing up the slalom. I loved it. I think that after David Vine stopped it, I got bored - Couldn't get used to Mr. Bell doing the commentary - although I gather he has much improved now.
Incidentally, if you look around for some of the vintage footage - like from Franz Klammer or Pirmin Zurbriggen's day - those downhill courses WERE NOT PISTED !! How the hell did they do that?? With that equipment?? it was just outstanding!
Anyway - it's still the weekend, so moff to do a virtual wine tour of the Piemonte region...
Ros :)

My friends have an apartment in Tignes, I've been there quite a few times for weekend skiing, unfortunately a knackered back doesn't permit me to ski any more

Been to Tignes twice, fell in the damm lake once as well, love the Grande Motte (sp) and the link to Val makes them great ski areas, but not this year, I have a wedding to pay for so will have to putti off this year.
Alan
How much do you have to drink to fall in the lake?!!
Maybe you'll remember some of the places in this video I made of our Xmas trip there:

That's the problem, I went reluctantly in 86 and loved every minute and have done ever since, initially it can drink cash if you buy your own equipment and the ski pass is always some thing to be considered, but like a lot of things once your of a legal age to enjoy something you will.
