Title: First MOT
Post by: Kwikasfuki on March 05, 2011, 01:40:13 PM
Almost forgot that the first MOT was due after three years. Problem is that with all the mods the bike is, ahem, slightly illegal.

I knew that the baffler had better be in, so that was duly done in the morning. Arrived at the testing station, and the first thing the tester says is "ooo, with those blue leds on, its an instant fail". So cue me unplugging the connectors. Now I don't know if side lights are part of the MOT test or whether the front LEDs are supposed to function as side lights, but it seemed to satisfy the tester.

Then he looks at my number plate. I had a custom one made so I could use the Hyperlites bracket. Apparently the font is too small and it doesn't have the code of the authority that issued the plate (I know why, I told them to brand with www.gtr1400.co.uk instead  :D) Fortunately I still had the old plate in the pannier so quickly swapped that around.

He also mentioned that my Hyperlites wiring was crap as it was rubbing the steering mechanism. I told him I had it on my todo list and rewire it again.

Other than that, bike passed first time. No issues with the custom horn I had on either. Mind you, the test took ages as we kept on chatting as the tester loved his Kawasakis which probably helped.

Good result obviously with it passing, but the tester seemed a bit picky. Is an illegal number plate an MOT failure, I thought the MoT was to test the road worthiness of the bike.  :-\

I suppose it could be argued that I should know this answer.  ;D
