It's that time of year again - both bikes insurance due. As all I did last year was pay an extension fee to the insurance for the tigers I now need quotes for the GTR and an ancient tiger.
Is it me or do these multi-bike policies seem a ripoff considering I only ride one at a time and the other is safe as Fort Knox.
I'm ringing round this week. Any recommendations would be appreciated. I'll put a table of quotes on here once they're all in. I know each policy is different but ball park figures all help.
Can't help but think that insurance should be the next financial service that gets hauled in. Serious business for us but companies fronted by meerkats, compario, confused clara and Paul :shit:house trivialise something which for us is fairly important don't yer think.
Still at least we ain't got Sheila's :censored:Wheels now equalities kicked in - sorry Debs! Not surprised the premiums have all gone up instead of finding an equilibrium between the sexes though.
Think ill start ringing round when the tablets start working - in the meantime a few recommendations would be rewarded with 1000 nectar points and a meerkat toy!
Party On !
I've always found Adelaide insurance in Northern Ireland to be extremely professional and reasonably priced.
I've used Footman James for years - always seems very reasonable for a multi - bike policey and includes european wide recovery, medical assistance and some cover for europe etc.
It really is a case of shopping around....it used to be that you sorted your insurance, and if you didn't have any claims within the year then your premium automatically came down and your NCD went up, but not anymore
There simply isn't any customer loyalty anymore from Insurance companies as they are clearly out to screw as much out of customers as possible
These days I just use whoever has the best deal for my bike and my car, and if it means changing from my existing company then so be it. The only exception being that I tend to stay with Peter James for my classic bike insurance.
Just done Adelaide as per LW wise words.
£386.23 GTR only inc UK breakdown
£450.00 includes my 2003 50k miles tigger
They will price match if I send em the evidence. As you say OC - they are bloody vultures.
:stupid:
I used to swear by The Policy Shop - first class service until IAM Insurance through Adelaide beat them hands down.
The Beemer is however insured through Motorrad Services as IAM couldn't touch them.
Ring round and see who does the best policies both multi-bike and singularly. You may find any bonuses only apply to one machine if you don't take a multi bike.
I had multi-bike for a Blackbird and Pan through IAM and they were unbeatable.
Did same with 1400GTR and 1200GS as the policy was mid-term but swapped before renewal time
I just go onto MCN compare, then go with the cheapest quote, coz I recon they are all the same
Given up for today - try again in a couple of days. MCE take the award for profligate greed though. I'm quoted £575 premium and a £550 comp excess for both bikes cover. When I tell em the lowest quote (£386 from Adelaide ) the pick-pocket (sorry, sales executive) says he can match it if I send in proof.
OC's absolutely right, these companies are out for all they can get. BTW, Carole Nash brokers fee is £39.00 - this is their "wriggle room" for exact same policy matching. I'm with them at the moment but as they claimed a GTR1400 doesn't exist and I have a ZZR1400 !!!!! I ain't that sure they know their :asshole: from their elbow!
Oh yeah - this is the guy who took Direct Line to the FSA insurance ombudsman, waited 6 months for adjudication but got £400 compensation which DL claimed I wasn't entitled to.
I don't look forward to dealing with these low-life's as you can tell!
I'll give a thumb's up for Adelaide as well. I do shop around, but they always come up trumps for me. I have my car and bike insurance with them at the moment.

I'll second this. I've renewed twice now with Adelaide and find their service 1st class.
Coincidentally I've rung them to day for a quote under their "IAM Families" scheme for Pam's Fiesta. To add me as a named driver, and to add cover for Pam to drive to more than one place of work the initial quote is around £50 less than her initial web trawl.
As an Insurance Broker in Lloyd's and in no way connected to the Motor Insurance industry (so don't shoot me) I would just say be careful about what you buy. Companies such as Quinn in NI caused some SERIOUS problems last year.
MCE just quoted me £447 for the GTR and ZZR but for a 15 moth policy.....can't beat that elsewhere !

Does "Quin" have any connection to Adelaide?
Quinns are nothing to do with Adelaide insurance they were a builders merchants who expanded and it's their effort into the insurance industry, he quoted really cheap quotes for the first couple of years to get the business then went up like the rest of them, I know I insured my taxi through them for a year before they jumped on the bandwagon with every other greedy broker.
He's now bankrupt, his business's have been taken over and he's constantly in court for money laundering, fraud, false accounting, numerous banking offences, hiding assets, etc....
Short version of the story is here.. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-northern-ireland-19063419
I'm currently with Carole Nash but thought their amendment to my policy was dear after changing from the Varadero, I will be using MCN compare next year when it's due again.
I'm using Adelaide for both bikes ([KGM) and car. Less than £500 for the lot (BS32 postcode) http://www.motorcarinsuranceuk.co.uk/post-code-ratings.php (http://www.motorcarinsuranceuk.co.uk/post-code-ratings.php)
Looks like its Adelaide as the favourite then. I will try e-bike again but I've fallen out with them as well a few years ago!
Thanks all for your assistance.
Just registered with Adelaide for a quote in March so it will be interesting to see if they can beat Bennetts, who I have to say have been consistently good for me over the last few years .........
Well my search for the best quote is over.
Swinton after really bouncing them around went down from £240 to £152.14. This is fully comp with protected bonus and excess. Everyones circumstances are different so wont elaborate Further..
The guy did tell me he'd made a mistake and it should ave been £30 more but he'd honour his mistake and sold me the cover. Did I feel sorry for him - not a chance!
Just got the policy docs, read em cover to cover and it looks a good'un.
Using the hilarious MG Valerio translator this means my brain was well lit all the time which prevented the insurance companies giving me bum :mfr_lol:
PS I don't think I'm quote of the month at Carole Nash- £565 for same cover "what the :censored:"!!
I have to say, After my accident, I had heard that I might have had problems claiming on my MCE Insurance.
They have been brilliant, considering the accident happened 1 week before Christmas.
I am impressed.

And hopefully on the road to recovery now
I got my insurance renewal through from Adelaide a few days ago. Last years premium was a straight £300 which was 5 years no claims, legal assistance, no claims protection & inclusive of a £30 admin fee. This year they have quoted me £382 even though I now have 6 years no claims  .
I called them today after doing one of those online comparison quotes, the top three quotes, like for like ranged from £211 to £240. I mentioned this to Adelaide, they simply said, we offer a price match as long as we can prove to the underwriters that it is a genuine like for like quote. Proof provided, jobs a good un, price matched.
Something to bear in mind.
Just did same with me Steve - Motorrad wanted £429.00.
Did online quote - Wicked Quotes contacted Adelaide / IAM and they matched it with all the bells and whistles - Fully Comp/NCD/Protected NCB business use etc - £177.00!!
 £177, bet your'e chuffed with that!
I beg to differ!, I refuse to use "price matching" companies. If a reputable company can give you a true honest quote to include all the extras that you have asked for, why would you go back to the company that tried to rip you off to start with? It's a lazy business model to not have a quantifiable system for assessing risk but just to under quote when challenged. These other companies will not be able to offer competitive quotes if no one signs up with them, so all you will have left in the future is the companies that just tried to hoodwink you. Think about it !
Coman
Coman, I do hear what you are saying but I work on the principle that I'd rather have the money in my pocket than theirs. If that means I've got to make a few phone calls to save myself as I did on this occasion almost £140 then so be it.
I have just had my renewal quote through the post from Motorcycle Direct and its not too bad at £273
I have package deal and it is broken down into the following:
- Bike Insurance - £163 including 7 years NCD, IPT etc
- Extras including legal expenses, key protection, helmet+leathers, personal accident and UK breakdown cover comes to additional £110
Although I don't need the UK breakdown cover any longer it comes as part of the package and if I exclude it the overall cost go up.
I have trawled around the usual comparision sites and although I can get the bike insurance marginally cheaper when you start adding the extras I want exluding the UK Breakdown cover it works out more exepnsive.

With respect LW, you are not hearing what I am saying. Yes still phone around for prices, but go with the company that gives you the best price, DO NOT go back to the cxxxs who are relying on your apathy to rip you off. When you challenge them they give you what they should have offered you in the first place, whereas the other company offered you great price and service, as stated if you do not pay their honest quote then they may not be around next time and you will have no one to price match against, then your existing highwaymen will charge what they like
Coman
:agree: I get what you're saying. I did my bike insurance a few weeks ago but my buildings & contents insurance renewal arrived, I costed a few others and one was the same but quite a bit cheaper so purchased it. My original insurer called me near the renewal date and I told them I'd gone elsewhere. When I told them how much, they said they could match the price. I told them they should have quoted me lower in the first place. Tough!
Its just easier I find to stay with the one I'm with, especially if they're going to price match everyone else. Adelaide are a good company and they are the only insurance company I have ever come across who when they say they are going to call you back actually do. The guy/gal on the other end of the phone is 'just' an employee and I wouldn't take it out on them just because the actual company is being crafty with their quote system.
Anyway thats my thoughts on it all, :sweatdrop: the main thing is of course the bike is going to get insured which means I can get out and ride it.
While we are on the subject I would just like to have a rant... :mfr_lol:
Why cant we transfer our no claims bonus from a car to a bike but if we have an accident in a car it will affect the policy on the bike?
It makes no sense.. I had over 15 years of no claims on a car, but now I have been without one for more than 2 years, I have now lost that amount..
Maybe Ive not understood the insurance companies properly, but when I first insured the bike they asked if I had any accident or convictions in the last 5 years which also meant in a car.
Anyway rant over... My insurance is due in July..
I disclosed to my bike insurance company that I had had an accident in the car this March and they were'nt interested, nor did it affect the quote they gave me. However my car insurance company have said that they may increase my premium next year even though the accident wasn't attributed to me and the other driver admitted full liability and this was supported by two independant witnesses. The other side have repaid all costs and losses. Where's the logic in that?
Hi Debs and LW,
In case you haven't figured it out yet, its because all insurance companies are greedy cxxxs, they wont let you transfer your NCB from cars to bikes(or bikes to cars) which demonstrate your careful driving record and attracts DISCOUNTS, but they will penalise you for endorsements which attract HIGHER premiums.
Even if you have a "no fault" accident, some Insurance companies view you as the sort of person who has accidents and increase premiums to suit.
I fxxxin hate them all
Coman
I dont feel guilty about shopping around for the best price but what Ive had to endure over the past few weeks has been made easier by the brilliant service provided by Swinton and the underwriters.
Its true that you only know the true value of service when you really need it - I'm sure my premium will go up next year but so long as its not stupid huge I'll definately use them again.
Well done Swinton and LVE Highway (as underwriters)
While Comaprison web sites are useful you can sometimes get a better deal by ringing the companies direct.
As per my earlier message below I did the usual round of comparision sites and overall there was nothing cheaper when you add in the extras I wanted.
Swinton offered the cheapest bike insurance on the comparision sites but didn't offer the extras I wanted on the comparision sites. However I had to ring Swinton about something else and while I was there I mendtioned that I was disappointed that didnt't appear to be offering the extras I wanted ie legal expenses, helmet+leathers, personal accident etc etc. They said they did and provided me a quote with the extras which is £100 cheaper than my current policy
Interestingly Motorcycle Direct, my current insurance company, have just launched customer rewards on a very wide selection of goods and services etc - its an impressive list. Yes a lot of it is 10-15% or 2 for 1 discount but something is better than nothing. I might take them up on the 2 for 1 tickets for King of Clubs Motorcycle Race day @ 8th June at Castle Coombe which is just down the road from me.
Kind regards
Steve
