As many of you know R&G do some engine bar protectors here for about £200 delivered, these are pretty good but not a patch on the ones from across the pond, see
http://www.mcenterprisesusa.com/products/search/dsp_searchForm.cfm
These have a bit more steel on them and with reports of people dropping there bikes and and saying how good they are at propping the bike up and saving the fairings they look a good buy.
Currently I can get a front set sent over for £226 but it would be cheaper is a few sets were sent over at the same time reducing the individual postage costs, they also do rear bars as well.
Anybody interested?
Alan
And what makes you say those are better than the R&G Adventure bars?

Simply because they protect the fairing in a more forward position as well as the rear side like the R&G ones, therefore in my humble opinion on me side slide they would take far more of the impact.
Alan
I would defo be interested after Christmas. Mr 2kwacks has had my GTR fund this month for his baglux! And car tax in January
I've done bulk orders for Touratech gear from Germany before - glad someone else is on the same page!
I'll research them as well. They look a little more sturdy than R&G to be sure! The only downside to the newer fairing style is the difficulty in finding good protection.
I have the ones from MC Enterprises. If baby was to ever go over I know all the faring will be protected. I really like them but I have also had some un-kind comments from other on here.
When the panniers are removed the rear ones do look like they are sticking out to far, but I tend to keep the panniers on because of this.
If you do order these just remember you will be hit with Import & Tax Duty plus Parcelforce admin fee of £8. Because I bought the full set I was hit with a bill of £100.
Debs. I don't think any crash bar improves the look of a bike but they do save ££££' if the unthinkable happens. Unkind comments obviously from those lucky enough not to have had to replace a fairing side panel - remember when a bike could be a write-off with gravel rash to the plastics only
Alan - I'm still interested in a set in the near year.
Debs
If my pride and joy was on its way down i would chuck new born babies and anything else i could find quickly to save the bike, for sure your bars would save a fortune and that's there intention so good for you, i just prefer the ones from MC Enterprises as i think they give a better chance of saving money.
Alan
Debs, is sooooooo right about the potential cost saving benefits of crash bars.. I had a K1300 GT fall over and despite it being a very low speed 'off' it caused a lot of expensive 'cosmetic' damage
Crash bars have to be functional to be effective
we looked into this earlier in the year on another site and got up to about 45 pre orders , we negotiated a group discount with the makers . once the retail price, the import duty, import vat and postage was factored in , all 45 members dropped out of the deal, from memory these were coming to my front door for a tad under £300 , you will get stung for the vat
That is a concern, i have a mate in the USA and might have to bribe him to bring some home with him when he next visits as the regulations are different if your bringing it in yourself funnily enough, but i will still see what reaction we get.

Mine are from MC Enterprises
Would be best to get a mate in the states to buy them and send them over as MCE do put the full price on the customs form.
If the items are marked down as second hand and of low price on the customs form then the VAT wouldnt be that much... Im sure you could get away with it being priced at just £50 :mfr_lol:
I've been stung many times by VAT, customs and Post Office charges, it's made some of the original N.O.S parts that I've sourced very expensive indeed, a N.O.S seat for my Bridgestone GTO had over £95 added in import taxes
They've got you by the short and curlies,,,where do you find another ?
Ive bought a couple of Fender Stratocasters back from the US in the past with the necks unbolted and stuffed in a suitcase - saved a fortune !
That was when I had as many guitars as OC has bikes ! If only I still had them - one particular one would be worth as much as a brand new GTR now
Hi Alan. am interested as they do them for the 07 - 09 model & would rather like the chrome ones. However having been stung by customs etc when before from the USA it would depend on finding a way to avoid these excesive charges. Thanks for posting, will be interesting to see how much interest there is.
Trotters
Trotters, in reality there is no real way to avoid the Customs charges. There is occasionally a way round things but the consequences of trying to avoid fees to Customs & Excise can be harsh to say the least, you dont want to mess with those people. :mfr_lol:

:stupid: but they don't have to be as ugly as that!
Well mecki I dont really give a flying :censored: what you think of them... I like them so (http://www.desismileys.com/smileys/desismileys_6727.gif) (http://www.desismileys.com/)
For those with the 2010 or later there are a new style you can get...
Now that looks a lot more robust than the R&G version as as Debs says who gives a hoot what they look like as the bike slowley falls over or slides down the road.
I can see with import taxes and stuff it might be a tad pricey, I shall have to see who visit's that side of the pond.

Well Debs, Beauty lies in the eye of the beholder.
I ride a MK2 and think my R&G Adventure bars will not only protect my fairing well enough should I ever drop it (I haven't dropped a bike for over a decade and don't intend to do so for at least another) but they are very unobtrusive because they follow the lines of the fairing.
So I can have protection without ruining the good looks of the GTR too much. :ohplease:
Of course they are not available for the MK1 so you obviously have to take what you can get.
the only way round it is to have them posted to a friend or relative or a fellow american member on here and then have that person, send you the items as a gift , maybe with a birthday card thrown in for good merasure.
FYI there is a UK importer. May be worth doing a price comparison.[size=-1]Alchemy Bikes
10 Beech Tree Close, Stanmore Middlesex, UK

Can a poll of CAF onwards owners be made to suss out who's interested in these? Christmas ain't a good time to go splashing out and I'm probably not alone in thinking this but they look sturdy enough and aesthetically OK.
I'm up for a set in new year pref from uk - surely the importer coud do a deal on say 5 sets.
No one intends to throw their bike over but :censored:happens. Guess that's why some smart :asshole: invented them eh?

we got 10 % for orders up to 50 units and then 20% thereafter, and that was with a bulk drop to a uk addrsss , then someone else will need to send them on to the individual address's.
hate to sound negative but remember the t shirt nightmare ?

Looks like they do a set for the 2007-9 but not the same design
Debs, I think Im going to go with yours, I think the others are neater and as they hug the bike closely but because your ones stick out further I recon your ones will offer the most protection as if the bike goes over on the others I recon the bike will roll on the close fitting bars and still catch the top of the fairings. But then again if your bike hits the deck, who knows where it will go.
Deb's where did you get yours from ?

Call or Email Teri Yates, Office Manager and she will deal with your order for you...
Tel: 001866.886.2368
Email:
[email protected]Dont forget you will be hit with Tax & Import Duty + Parcelforce admin fee of £8 = about £100. Thats if you buy the complete kit ie Front & Rear.
Debs, I cant find the price ?
Going to see if my cousin will mark them up as a gift and post them over from Phili
Mine was....
Front $350
Rear $175
Freight $93.20
Total $618.20 / £386.55
The shipping cost via USPS to the UK is $84.35 and the cost of the Canyon Cage part #1400-410 is $300.00 for a total of $384.35.
This was the reply i go from Terri direct, and then as Debs says you have to add all the crap to the cost before you get it.
I have someone who visits the good old US of A a few times a year filming conferences etc, hopefully i can arrange to have a set delivered to his hotel and he will bring them back in this camera kit (he has to take a lot).
