Title: Choosing a new T.V
Post by: O.C. on December 12, 2012, 07:47:10 AM
I've decided to treat myself to a new T.V, but will probably wait till after Christmas, cos there might be a deal available then

What a bloody minefield it is, do I want Wi-Fi do I need twitter, do I care about facebook options.....NO !...I  :censored: DON'T

All I want is a good LED set which will provide a picture from Sky

I reckon Samsung looks good...

But do you know any better ?.......advice needed please

Confused of Lake District  :mfr_lol:

What's your budget, the Panasonic ones are good.

Are you gonna donate your old set to Geoff and introduce him to the world of moving pictures?  :mfr_lol:

Ours is a 32" LED backlit Samsung. £400 two years ago and 100% reliable.
If you want 3D or the Smart (Internet capable) TVs then Samsung or LG is the way to go.
However, beware as many Smart TVs are limited in their ability to surf the web and they are also somewhat vulnerable to getting hacked/virused.
Panasonic, Toshiba & Sony TVs are good, but are also more £££.

I have a 32" Panasonic that I bought from this company http://www.ebuyer.com/store/Visual/cat/Televisions

The price was really good and the delivery service was excellent. They always have offers on..

Cheers for the advice George, I don't want all the extra fancy gadgetry associated with a lot of T.Vs these days, so I'll be avoiding all that stuff, I don't use facebook, Twitter, 3d, Blue Ray, and all the interactive stuff on a T.V..I spose I'm a bit of a Luddite in that respect.  :mfr_lol:

Debs, thanks for the link, which will definitely help with my 'research'

Why is everything so complicated these days....ahhh the good old days of Radio rentals  :mfr_lol:

It's really lovely to have folk thinking of what I could do in my leisure time. However I have no desire to spend a large chunk of my life gawping at an haunted fish tank, whilst simultaneously making multi- millionares out of mostly averagely talented people. I dont think for instance, that being able to read the news off an autocue, or read the football results, or waffle on about the weather, should entitle people to earn the kind of money that most normal folk could only dream of. And when I hear, and see the figures that some of the senior management people are taking from the kitty, and after they have done that for a few years, walk away with 3 million pounds as a payoff, plus a pension running into even more millions of pounds. The whole thing sickens me to the core. All this and lots, lots more leads me to believe that maybe the licence fee is plain and simple extortion. And after all that, my friends at work are always going on about, "What a load of  :shit:" it was on the tele last night, and then say exactly the same the day after, leaves me wondering why they keep putting up with it.      We stopped- putting up with it years ago, and now walk, read, go clay shooting, drive, ride motorbikes, and enjoy our beautiful surroundings. But most of all we talk to each other.    I thank you for your concern, but television has nothing to offer us

Ta Viper and everyone.

I've been doing some research and it seems that Samsung is a very good choice, I just didn't want a load of features that I don't understand and don't need,

So I'll be off to my local friendly Curry's store and will try and strike a deal

Good Old boy OC .... I purchased a Samsung 6800 32" LED with all the bells and whistles .. which I use ... from Amazon a few months back for £670 ... and it is just FANTASTIC quality in every way ... in the NY sales I shall be looking at a bit of surround sound with woofer thingys ......... go for the Samsung !

Well that's sealed it Rusty, its Samsung for me

By way of saying thanks for your advice.....if your thinking of a surround sound system then I can recommend tan Onkyo amp with keff speakers on floor stands and a Keff sub-woofer, which is what I bought about 5 years ago, its amazing, and has Room calibration which sets the sound up to wherever you are sitting,...not cheap but worth every penny when your watching bike racing or Strictly  :mfr_lol:

I visited Curry's today and purchased a 40" Samsung LED Smart TV, which has features that I probably won't ever use, but it was a very good deal and I got extra discount as the salesman was interested in classic bikes.....result

Thanks for the advice, the picture is awesome

Geoff, are you sure about your decision ?.........don't be hasty now   :mfr_lol:
