Is anyone else following the C14 thread over on ADVrider?
this mod has been mentioned concerning releasing 'the power of the beast'
Reads as follows:
It will make more difference than the pipe ever will.
Guide:
1. remove the little black filler pieces on the top sides of the gas tank.
2. Remove center plastic piece on gas tank
3. remove bolts holding down the rear of the gas tank
4. tilt tank forward (a friend or a block of wood can support it.)
5. remove the two plates below the tank that lead into the airbox
6. Remove flies. 2 JIS screws per fly
7. Reverse order to button it back up.
8. Profit and wheelie!
This is vague, but self explanatory once you're into it.
DO IT!
There's a step by step guide on here with pictures of how to do the mod which kwikasfuki put on ages ago.
Have a look for it, it's probably been on at least a year plus.
Sounds good , but what flies are we pulling. :mfr_lol:
This topic has completely confuddled me. (http://www.desismileys.com/smileys/desismileys_1822.gif) (http://www.desismileys.com/)
Butterflies, the secondary set which Mr K has included on your bike, some people pull them out along with a remap of the ECU and reckon it unleashes more BHP, from my point of view what I have as standard is plenty enough for my use but I can see the logic.
Alan
Doesn't affect me but won't this invalidate Kawasaki 2/4 year warranties.
I'd need a frontal lobotomy before I'd require any more power anyway! :mfr_lol: :mfr_lol:
Basically you can do what you like with your bike after all its yours, if something went wrong with your bike and you claimed then should Mr K have reason to think that what you had done was the cause of the claim I suspect they might play the "that's your fault" but on the other hand many have done it with no problems.
Me, staying as it is.

+1 :agree:
Removing the Secondary Butterflies (Flies) will add a little bit to top end power but we're talking 2 or 3 Bhp on top of the factory 135 (at the rear wheel).
HOWEVER, what it will do is increase the low RPM torque by up to 25lbft in the 2500-4000rpm band.
If yer interested check out the US based http://forum.cog-online.org/index.php (http://forum.cog-online.org/index.php) forum and search for "Flies"
Alternatively you can get yer ECU reprogrammed to have a similar effect without removing the Flies. Search for Guhl.
If you want more power, buy a ZZR1400.
If you don't fit on a ZZR1400 search that forum for the word Turbo.
Of course removing the flies is not recommended on the MK2 model unless you want to disable traction control permanently.
I'm staying 'standard' too - like he says - if you want more power - get a Busa or a ZZR.....
......However, 25lb torque is pretty neat. Mine spins up as it is in shite weather, so the extra 25lb torque will just ripple the tarmac. Im ooooot !
Removing the flies gives you a fair amount of brown pants moments (and that's whilst removing them, after removing them its wise to carry spare pants)
I think I will keep mine as mr Kawasaki intended, old blokes like me ( I'm 64 ya know?) dont need any more go than it left the factory with.
Think the first thing I may give a try is a re-map .... I know a friendly wizard nearby with a full dyno set up... and he seems to work wonders with about any bike he looks at ......
I've put a lot of business his way so he'll look after me I think
I seem to have a little hesitation in first gear after about 1500 rpm in certain situations... and if he can give me a slug of extra torque that'd be great ( not bothered about any more speed.... it's quite fast enough
I would highly recommend taking the secondary butterflies out, its the best mod i have done on my A9F and the previous A8F i had. The low down power is much better, great for overtaking especially when fully loaded and two up, not as good as my gen 2 hayabusa :sweatdrop: but well worth doing and easy to do. Try it and feel the differance

Booked mine in at Hill Top motorcycles on 4th Jan.. Plan is as follows....
Dyno run as standard
Secondary butterfly removal
Remap to suit and another dyno run
I've known Geoff there for a few years now... And he's a bit of a magician with remaps
Watch this space.

Look forward to hearing your impressions Bryn, it's Hilltop I was going to visit next time I'm over there, have heard good things about them on forums.
Let us all know and some pics of Dyno sheets before and after be lovely...
Full report after 4th Jan.
I am well known on here for being a slow rider.....and yet I've never had any trouble on my 1400cc machine overtaking any vehicle in front of me if it's safe to do so.....
I know this is a popular mod but why is it really necessary?

:agree:
From what I've read it just makes the bike even torquier ( is that a word :cheesy:) low down in the rev range, and low down is where I live ....
I've already put a remus hexacone on the bike, and it will be nice to see that the fuelling is spot on while I'm at it... I find there's a bit of hesitation just off the throttle at around 1500-2000 rpm as it is, and I'm hoping this is smoothed out while we're at it
I appreciate that the bike is plenty powerful as it is.... :biker3:
Yep, fair point Bryn, and I see exactly where you're coming from.
I for one will be very interested to see what results and improvements result from the modification
don't bother removing the flies :nono: just trade in for a zzr

I kinda like the shaft drive... And the panniers are quite handy... And then there's the adjustable screen........

ECU controls when and how quick butterflies open (and fuelling etc.) so don't disable the hardware just get your ECU re-flashed.Can be changed back to standard if not happy :-) Not really apparent on dyno but better pick up and fuel / air mixture sorted.

I used company below;
Andy, thanks for the email!
On the GTR our reflash adds quite a bit of tq down low, in addition to the top end punch of the added whp. Gains are 10-14 whp . Not as great as the zx14, but the cams are "softer" on the GTR.But the huge gain is to rideablity, as this makes the bike a riot to ride.
We charge 400.00 usd for the reflash, and shipping looks to be about 100.00 if we go overnight, or 60 via parcel post(4-5 days)
We Change almost all of the fuel, timing and throttle tables, as well as a great deal of things we don't talk about
Yes the traction controls work as stock, no difference. The Eco mode works better due to the added timing
We do indeed adjust the secondary plates, and the ramp rate

Exactly, if you want a faster bike than a GTR, why buy a GTR in the first place, get a ZZR.

Which was why I said the I'll be happy with extra torque down low, where I spend most of the time
I don't want/need a faster bike....more torque is always good though

You're missing the point....it's no faster just better to ride. I've got a GSX-R thanks
Andy, I often miss the point, my wife's always telling me so. :mfr_lol:

why do people assume.. that because one as the fastest accelerating road bike on the planet  he only got it to go like the clappers all the time :hammer: well maybe.. just maybe! the person or persons  like the look of the zzr1400 and the fact they can do everything great straite from the crate, i.e tour, handle the twisties with the best of them, also person or persons may find the new model zzr1400 to be a excellent compromise between the excellent newer model gtr1400 and the brillant newer model zx10r and consider.. they now have the best of both worlds with just the one bike
You're obviously very pleased with your new ZZR Dave.

yes I'm very pleased with the zzr  but just pointing out a few very true facts about the zzr and of course.. having a pop at the wolf in the process is always a bonus :mfr_lol:
- absolutely would love to have a ZZR1400 (ZX14R) to complement the GTR !!

had the both the gtr and the zzr at the same time  not the 2013 zzr  it was the df8 2008 model, but did find riding the 2 bikes at the same time was very challenging :sweatdrop: never did managed it  but on a more serious note thou.. did find the gtr and the zzr1400 very similar in many ways which kind of made it rather pointless owning 2 bikes
:mfr_lol: :mfr_lol: Dave ... your increased "Popping at The Wolf" has been noticed .... keep it up for 2013 !!

was  the wolf bit so easily  but he suggested that I was spoiling for a fight.. well that is fighting talk where I come from.. Ho.. dam lucky for him that have moved now  besides.. he's bigger than me, not in all departments I hasten to had  also I've heard he is very highly trained in unarmed combat so think I will :surrender: unless it's a road race :mfr_lol:
