A little help please. Had the bike for a couple of weeks and the two front brake disks are showing signs of rust, rear disks are fine. First service (500 miles) booked in at the dealer for next week. Question is, can i ask for the disks to be replaced, or is it one of those items subject to 'wear and tear' clauses ?
Thanks for any assistance.
Hello Iamin .... welcome to the forum, hope you enjoy it and join in all the threads !
Rusty discs on a 2 week old bike ? I would suggest that if you havn't used it much ( can't believe that with a new bike ! ) then you may get a bit of surface brown rust on the discs( I have had this when the bike isn't used for a while ) but that will be removed as you take the bike out and use the front brakes ... or perhaps your garage, if it's in a garage is just very damp at the moment .. I can only offer that advice and I am sure others will put in their views too over the next couple of days ... if it's a real problem then I have no doubt the dealer would replace them without any hesitation at all. Hope this helps, but i wouldn't worry, just get out on the GTR !!!
Hi and welcome lamin.
If you've ridden the bike in wet weather and then parked it up for a while its not unusual to get rust on the discs. In fact the rear ones on my bike always show some sign of rust as I mainly use the front brakes. It comes off the discs as soon as you start to use the brakes, but if you're taking about the rust in the circular cut-outs of the disc then that will remain unless you treat it with some preventer. Obviously make sure whatever you use doesn't get on the discs.
Ditto, with the above comments. If it's of concern the dealer will undoubtedly resolve the problem under warranty but I'm pretty sure it's probably just moisture on the discs which have formed a bit if discolouration.
