And yet on my 125 mile ride out around the dales, a visit to the biking mecca known as the Bridge at (Kirby Lonsdale) and then home again to Leyburn via Slaidburn (Lancashire), on a cold, but stunningly sunny and beautiful day, with well gritted roads, and zero traffic, on some of the best roads this country has to offer, with stunning scenery to match I didn't see a bloody O N E of these round the world adventure, exell in any conditions, on any surface, built to circumnavigate the globe bikes. No not bloody O N E. Now I will concede that just maybe they were all thrashing through the Gobbi desert, or smashing their way through a jungle somewhere in Africa, But more than likely I think that they all stayed at home today because they may have got a splash of salt on there B M W branded kit, or had to organize a search party to find the location on the bars of the switch for the heated grips, or perhaps sat navs dont work too good when it's cold. Whatever the reason, it has just confirmed what I have always thought about 1200 GS riders, just like the bikes they ride they are a over hyped load of :asshole: :whistling:.
Hi 100milesaway.

I'm quite jealous that you ventured out yesterday !! I love the ride out from durham down towards Leyburn and Hawes for a cuppa at the pennygarth cafe. I, however, decided it was a tad on the cold side and was reluctant to get my bike salty ! Bit of a wimp i guess !
I was also a bit worried about icy patches.
Geoff, calm down, calm down & count to ten. :mfr_lol:
Calm down!!!!!!!! bloody GS1200 riders, :asshole: bloody nancy boys, :hammer: :gun_bandana: w-----s :censored: me, round the world!!!!, what a load of :shit: most of em would struggle to go round the block, they make me puke Go anywhere bike ? :ohplease: in any conditions :nono:  :censored: what a bunch of :censored: t-----S, and dont get me started on their matching riding kit , :single fuck: or their bleedin spotlights, even though they never go out at night ,,rant, rant, rant :censored: :2guns: :gun_bandana: :hammer:  :gunsmilie:. OK so thats 2 out of 30,000 :mfr_lol: :whistling: But as I stated before I find it extraordinary that out of all the bikes I spotted on my 125 mile ride on Sunday, in a motorcyclists playground area of this country, that I didn't see one GS1200. PS I didn't see any GTR 1400s either :whistling:. :embarrassed:
Geoff it could be suggested :whistling: that the GTR is a serious mile muncher and will just eat those motorway miles up.......
I do know one person with a GTR who refuses to go on motorways, is that similar to the point you're trying to make? :mfr_lol:
Steve, you can still eat those miles up without going on a boring as :shit: motorway, some motorcyclists like to enjoy the ups and downs, sweeping bends, the gear changing, accelaration and total involvment with their bike that riding in a mind numbing straight line just will not give you. Anyhow I shall send my spotter out next Sunday to stand on a bridge over the M6, to see if there are legions of GS BMs with riders fighting to stay awake, getting their kicks from chuffing up and down in a straight line :sleep1:  :mfr_lol: :whistling: :smartass:
It never did the Romans any harm building roads in straight lines, perhaps the M6 is down to them.
Crikey Geoff .. deep breaths .... whooooo ... deep breaths
Mr Wolf .. just delete those pictures of me and the rest of The Met on the Bm's at NEC will you ??.... don't want them upsetting anyone. :mfr_lol: :mfr_lol: :mfr_lol:

Yes yes yes Steve, but they didn't have motorbikes back then did they? sporty chaps in those days had a different kind of vehicle. Watch a few old films with a roman theme and you will notice that those chariots dont seem to handle to good in the corners, hence all those boring as :shit: straight roads that were constructed. :whistling:  :listencarefully: most of todays sporty young blades such as myself :mfr_lol: prefer a few bends thrown into the mix  :mfr_lol:

You won't find them there either because they are probably all off crossing the Sahara desert. :mfr_lol:

Well, the difference is that were we both going on a 2 week holiday in the Alps, you would spend a week getting there and a week going back on boring A roads while I would spend 10 days riding mountain passes. :smartass:
Guess who would get more enjoyment out of that trip.
I didn't buy an expensive tourer to go on short Sunday rides - I bought a GTR to be able to travel long distances in comfort and once I get where I want to go enjoy something different than the same old roads in the North of England. Riding the same old roads over and over again gets very boring after a while, you know.
:agree:

Yes Gerd, but I would spend a week getting there, a week getting back AND a fortnight doing the twisties, plus I never get bored of the roads that I use in the good old North of England , the finest ribbons of tarmac on the planet in my opinion. And nothing could possibly be more boring, than riding a bike on a motorway. :ohplease:   :nono:  :sleep1:
Well I saw a GS with a brit plate on it zapping past me today in Agrate Brianza?!
There's nothing remotely interesting there... Apart from lots of traffic jams to filter through!

Thanks for that Ros. So this chap was rushing to get to a "Not remotely interesting place" eh? I rest my case your honour. :mfr_lol: :mfr_lol: :whistling: :whistling:
Can you "rush" anywhere on a GS ?
Not in my opinion - I regularly whizzed past em on the a303 to and from work on me Tigger!. :mfr_lol:
And they never return my nods on the opposite carriageway ! :censored: :asshole: ' s
Maybe I'm bitter because I took out 4 total in the hope I'd like one . An older GS1150 adventure, GS1200, GS1200RSAdventure, and one of the then new 4 valve head adventures with all the electronics you could mention for £16k !!!!
Guess what - I didn't like em!
Sorry BMW but I tried reeeaaallly hard and you FAILED !! :2guns: :2guns:
Rusty I would suggest you can.
They are fantastic but I couldn't get on with it.
Fast, handle well, infact brilliant, comfy, good position - great for long distances ( :death:) but not for me...
...couldn't be doing with the twat suit and the ribbing from 100milesaway :whistling:
I found that the upright seating position, ala the GS, or Tiger Explorer seemed to be giving me pain in the Coccyx area, othewise I loved the GS's I had... didn't love the amount I must have spent fine tuning them, to never get them as good as I reckon the GTR is now
You are able to get a shift on with them.... managed 100 miles in exactly an hour two up east of Vienna a couple of years back... an empty motorway did help a bit :biker3:
Bryn, I found the position gave me a muscular pain between the shoulder blades.
Took a couple of months riding a normal bike to recover!

This weeks MCN. One of their reporters on a long term test 650 Sertao arranged to go on a club run with some of the local (London) BMW riders club members, come the day not one rider showed up, exept the MCN man. The bloke who was supposed to be leading the ride out was reported as saying "It was too wet". :ohplease: :listencarefully: :censored: :asshole:
To be expected .. BMW club pipes are hard to light in the wet.. And slippers are useless in the rain too.
