Title: Don't Play Misty For Me!
Post by: Bumpkin on December 02, 2012, 11:39:44 AM
I'm sure I'm not on my own with the year round riders, but I'm currently juggling the freezing face and the misty visor/glasses.

This weekend I've done the the helmet strip down, clean and de-mist, refitting the pin-lock in an attempt to get that one right, and before the next ride out it's demister treatment on the glasses.

What I'm wondering is - any magic cures out there (hopefully)?

You used to be able to buy double glazed visors (no misting!) but nobody seems make any now.
I had the Lazer Revolution for years and loved them. Never once misted up, even in the most torrential downpours.

If you can buy some heated glasses then that plus the pinlock may work.
Either that or else contact lenses and the pinlock.

Unfortunately my stigmatism is a little strong for contacts, there are versions that are OK for driving, but not for using in the office

I'd never heard of heated glasses though - as long as you look nothing like Elton John in them I may have a look see.

I had one of the early pinlock type inserts in an old quantum, where the insert was stuck to the visor, now that worked perfectly!

Had my C3 Pro with Pinlock for a week or so now, no misting whatsoever, even stationary in the very cold or very damp.

Not sure it would help with the glasses though. You are welcome to borrow it and try Geoff.

I have exactly the same problem with my C3. Usually end up cracking open the visor to get rid of it. Might as well have an open faced helmet.  :hammer:

I have a C3 too and don't have any problems.
Check that your Pinlock is fitted correctly so no air can get in between the visor and the Pinlock.  :hammer:
You may also have to open the air vent at the bottom especially if you wear a scarf or a balaclava.
I have occasionally experienced some misting when stationary and it was very cold with high humidity but opening the visor to the 'city' position (slightly open) always took care of that.

But do you wear glasses?

But do you wear glasses?

Not while I'm riding my bike.
I used to wear shades when riding in bright sunshine, though.
But since I got the C3 I don't need those any more.

When your glasses fog up it has nothing to do with the type of helmet.

Try some dish washing liquid - it may help since it reduces surface tension and prevents droplets to form.
Simple physics, really.
