Title: A different way to look at the GTR
Post by: SirToU on December 02, 2012, 09:37:08 AM
Hi guys, I've been working at the NEC yesterday, on the Motogymkhana Stand.

Well, talking to people as you do, my dream bike has always been a ZZR.

One guy said to me he has the ZZR and I said - I have the GTR.......

And he said - Oh the Grand Touring version.

It was like the penny dropped.......  I have my dream bike ....    Its either the ZZ or the GT....... R.

The GTR is a GT version of the ZZR, something that Kawasaki are famous for.
The original GTR1000 was a detuned, more comfy version of the GPZ1000RX.
The 1400GTR is a detuned, more comfy version of the 2007 ZZR1400.
I can ride a ZZR for about 50 miles before the wrist/lower back/neck ache gets so bad that I stop enjoying the ride.
Haven't found the limit for the GTR yet, but with the Russell saddle I've done over 600 miles in a day and was still having fun when I got home.

When I had mine I used to say exactly that - it's the comfy version of the ZZR, whenever I was asked by sportsbike mates I used to say it was the grand touring version of a sports bike - same power/speed/handling but comfortable and practical...

Sorry Winston,

I have to disagree, the GTR loses 50bhp to the ZZR and gains 50lbs. It has nowhwere near the same "thrust" as the ZZR, so yes it is the "touring" version of the ZZR, but they have neutered it. Still xxxxing quick,  but not balliistic like a ZZR

'twas a generalisation.

Besides, if it matches a Gixxer thou that's kudos enough for me (well it was)
