Hi Guys my GTR is coming up for new tyres, are the Pirilli that much better than the Bridgestones?
Like a different world!
Hi
I would say that Pilot Road 2 or 3's, Metzler Z6 or Z8 interacts, Avon Storms 2, Pirilli are better tyres than the standard BT021's. - Have a look at this thread - http://www.gtr1400.co.uk/forums/index.php/topic,104.0.html
I have recently fitted a set of PR3's and I am well impressed.
Kind regards
Steven
Thanks Guys, fitting the Pirilli tyres hopefully cures the problem of the bike tipping in to fast on slow corners/roundabouts.
Will proberly get tyres fitted when it has its front TPS sensor replaced(THE BIKE IS ONLY 16MTHS OLD!)
TPS is a different ball game. There's several threads on TPS failure. Fortunately Kawasaki are good at replacing them under warranty
Hello Howard ... Where have you popped up from ?? Let us all know about the new tyres when you have them scrubbed in of course !!
Avon storm 2 ultra fitted to my gtr last weekend, will keep updated of impressions, so far after only 70 dry miles am very impressed
I have 1500 miles on PR3s now and they are superb.
Cost £260 fitted to loose rims.
In the dry they are easily the equal of the PR2s they replaced, but in the wet they are awesome.
I'm glad I tried the PR3 and not the Z8s as I was planning to.
I've always been a fan of the Michelin Pilot Road tyres, they're definately gonna find themselves on my bike shortly.
Boomer/LW,
Any review of the PR3? I have Z8s waiting to go on, but I'm hearing a lot of good things about the PR3. If they are as good as people say, then I may put the PR3s on and sell the Z8s.
NB, all I can say is that if a tyre is never made that is better than the PR3's then I wont complain. I've only done a relatively small amount of mileage on them so far but they are terrific. I've had PR2's before and they always impressed me as well. Its difficult to explain in typed words what I mean other than the fact they deliver everything you would expect from a bike tyre.
They just seem to plant themselves firmly on the tarmac and respond with the minimum of effort making the ride a more confident and enjoyable experience. I immediately noticed a significant difference between them and the Metzelers I had on before.
If you fancy a change NB, you wont be dissapointed.
Back in 2007 I did touring-test on the CT2 (VFR800 used).
Have a look: http://www.sydfynmc.dk/2ctbrugertest.html
22.500km - and even more in those tyres....
In 2008 I did another touring-test on CT2 fitted on my newly Hayabusa (K8) and had a summer-run
for about 14.000km. That's heavy for any Busa-driver... Bridgestone is std. fitted on Busa and
(for me) last about 3-5.000km ???
Within 3 weeks I drop the new Bridgestone's and re-fit to the new Pilot Road 3 - yet another
touring-test for Michelin this summer... Well... on the GTR! ;-)
The missus is gonna have a fit if I get the PR3 as she knows the Z8s are in the cellar. Gonna have to work around it some how.

Stick em on Ebay. ;D
if you're selling the Z8's let me know?.....i need some new hoops before my trip to France...if the price is right then i could take em, off you
There you go....problem sorted.
Hi
I had a set of PR3's fitted just over a month ago and I have done about 1200-1300 miles on them, in both the wet and the dry. They are a really good tyre :) :) the handling and grip are really really great :) :) I did have to have the rear replaced last week due to a puncture only after a 1000's miles which didn't go down to well to say the least but its covered by the tyre insurance.
On Sunday I thoroughly enjoyed putting the bike through some tight flowing twisties and finished scrubbing the rear - chicken strips what chicken strips ;)
When I was looking at changing my tyres I did consider the Avon Storm's and the Z8's - both are very good tyres but I opted for the PR3's and I certainly don't regret it. The choice was influenced by my previous experience of two sets PR2's on the CBF1000 the grip, handling and the high mileage (11-12,000 per set of tyres)
I will be interested to see how they wear with the mileage, as I do about 10,000 miles per year.

Steve you know better than anyonethat i tend to be quite harsh on my tyres.....i managed to kill a set of 021's on the CBF in less than 4k miles...not sure whether my wear rates would be favourable against your tyre usage :(

Hmmm, bizarre. I do 20k per year, and have had one puncture in the previous 4 years. Fitted some PR3s last Tuesday, and the rear was punctured by the Thursday.
Two instances is hardly cause for concern, but just wondering if anyone else has had punctures on the PR3s? They seem great tyres so far, and I have been cheap and plugged the puncture (successfully so far) on mine.
Martin.
Interesting. On the PR2s I had a puncture whilst scrubbing them in. I plugged it as well and they lasted 10k+ miles

should you really plug a 'Z' rated tyre??

Tyre suppliers cannot undertake a permanent plug/repair to "Z" rated tyres because of the unlimited speed rating.
Temporary plugs are ok to get you home/garage but speed is limited to 50mph.
In the past with lower speed rated tyres I have gone down the route of having permanent repairs, a maximum of two per tyre. However as you can't repair Z rated tyres I went down the route of taking out tyre insurance to cover such events.
Kind regards

How much does tyre insurance cost?

How much does tyre insurance cost?
The insurance I have is with the AA - http://www.AAwarranty.co.uk (http://www.aawarranty.co.uk) I think it cost me £90 for the year and the policy allows for two punctures per year. There is an excess of £10 per tyre. So if I was unlucky enough to have two punctures it would cost a maximum of £110 for effectively two new tyres.
Kind regards
Steven
Right, the PR3s go on tomorrow. Never looked so forward to having a tyre replaced
Had a rear wheel puncture years and years ago ... 8/9 years perhaps, rear wheel on a VFR800, luckily I felt it go and came to a halt in a lay by with a bloody great wood nail in the side wall ..... how on earth did it get in there ??? At the time my insurance company had a call out scheme going on the policy ... I call them, they call the nearest bike dealer on their scheme, they come out and collect me, take me and bike back to workshop and new tyre fitted ... for which I paid, but the transport and pick up was free ... late for work but hey ho it worked well. I have to say to their credit I was picked up in about 1/2 an hour.... not bad.

Are you getting them fitted at Autorama?

Nope. The Pit Stop in Hudds. I just have to remind them about the TPS sensor. Well, I watch them do the entire process just so they don't mess up. I would have done loose wheels but as it is, time isn't on my side this week.
Well you are a bit of a connoisseur on tyres so it'll be interesting whether you hold the same respect for these tyres as we do.
I'll be glad to see the back of those continental road attack II. Today in dry weather I felt the back squirming for a grip.
The PR3s are on. Early days yet but feel very sturdy and grip well. 42psi on both tyres. I'm hoping the carcas in the middle will grip better than the PR2s. In cold weather, the PR2 grip wasn't as good as in warm weather.
Do modern tyres really require scrubbing in? I've just got on and ridden like normal.
the reason for scrubbing in is because of the release agent they use to get the tyres out of the moulds......however with new tyres and better grip you might well find they feel good straight away....be careful on wet/damp roads with new tyres...thats where the release agent gets slippy and tyres lose grip ::)
My PR3's are now at 2500 miles and seem to be wearing well.
They are starting to wear a bit square but my PR2's did the same.
It's because 99% of my riding at the moment is on Duals & Motorways. :-(
If this weather holds up I may get a chance to go "round" them off at the weekend, SWMBO permitting! ;D
