i'm often looking on ebay to see if there's anything for my gtr1400 or xjr1300,i came across an as new carbon fibre scorpion extreme stubby end can only 20 mile's away,i contacted the seller, went over to his place & got it for £150,his bike a 58 plate xjr1300 has been up for sale for a while,he took me in his garage to show me his xjr which was being viewed 2mo by a bloke travelling down from scotland,i could not believe he hadn't sold it earlier,it's a ruddy corker,i thought mine was tidy, this was in showroom condition with a mere 1,700 on the clock, the endcan he sold me was on sale for £200 a couple of week's ago,he had no response,so lowered the price,i was the only person to enquire about it.i know it's getting near crimbo,i just treated the xjr to an early pressie, gonna put it on 2mo.
I've been an ebayer for over 8 years and its true I've had some bargains - most recently the Remus for the bike but I've also sold a fair bit and had to accept the massive fees they (and PayPal) charge.
I very rarely sell on there now because of these charges. Also the tax they avoid paying in the uk by using a clever business strategy annoys me.
Fine for buyers who get a bargain, expensive for sellers - but ALWAYS massive profits for eBay!
Buy plenty of bits on ebay... but in the last year probably only sold a couple of things ....don't like the charges when I can do it elsewhere for nowt
e-bay can be a necessary evil, I've used it to find lots of parts for my classic bikes that i wouldn't otherwise have located
before we had ebay , you had to use local adds or the loot free mag ect, your captive audience was so much smaller so usually your price was aswell. ebay getts better prices generally as you often have people bidding on your item and getting carried away, ive sold a few bikes bit and almost got the new price for 2nd hand stuff. I think the 10% fee ( with PP) is probably worth it in most cases, just doesnt seem it after the event when the invoice comes through.
