Title: BIKE TO BIKE COMMUNICATION
Post by: zedmeister on November 26, 2012, 08:05:17 PM
Went to the autocom stand at the show today and enquired about the above. When i got up off the floor after collapsing when they told me the price i said no thanks.

2 x helmet kits and leads £350
2 x radio units                  £150

£500 FFS!!!  i do not want to communicate with the Mars Mission, just a few hundred yards will do. Does anyone have any advise on any other system, i am told bluetooth is not all that good, i am also told mapplin's have a reasonable system depending on the quality of unit you use, your comments would be appreciated.

thats ridiculous, no one can justify that for bike to bike, these companies are not in the real world. I cant believe it costs so much to mass produce these kits !

I have the Autocom logic 1 system and kenwood radio and it was nowhere near that price, Logic 1 was from memory £155 and I got the radio from EBay, extra's I had was the PTT lead and interface wire for the radio.

Www.chainspeed.co.uk is your friend.

Oh and I added the Bluetooth dongle to pair with my Tom Tom Rider, all works well.

Could have been, chainspeed do the logic 1 for £155 and I seem to remember I paid £60 (ish) for the Kenwood T3200, £25 for the PTT button and £15 for the interface lead, apart from the logic1 the rest you can get from eBay just keep looking.

It is good kit though.

Autocom isnt cheap but it is very good. An alternative is the Interphone 5, I'm not too sure how their prices compare though with the Autocom

Alan i have just looked on the chainspeed site, the Logic 2 has the pair of kits and the box of tricks for £205, i would then need the 2 x radios at £150, making £355 in total, thats what i was looking to spend tops.

I will be looking at the other ones you guys mention too, although i have not heard of Sena or Interphone, thanx for the info keep it coming please.

I will just stick to listening to music via my phone.

Not interested in spending £££ just to hear a bunch of grumpy old male bikers  :mfr_lol: :mfr_lol:

Am I missing something here?  You only need one radio for yourself surely?

Logic 1 set and a decent PMR radio such as a Wintec/Intaride, Ixon, Motorola or Kenwood will do the job.

PMR's should set you back about £120 per unit

I need to speak to my lady when she is riding, but as you know grumpy old men, but nag nag nag ladies, but in her defence she's worth every penny. ( now that should get me some brownie points )

Now the real reason is SHE HAS NO SENSE OF DIRECTION FFS !!!!.  :mfr_lol: :mfr_lol: :mfr_lol:  except when she is shopping for clothes, shoes, handbags, she knows every hanger, every rail, every shop, on every street, BLINDFOLDED !!!!!!!!!  :mfr_lol:

My comment wasn't meant to be flippant, my point was that you only need one for yourself.  Anyone with you will need a similar rig fitted or carried to enable them to chat.  The autocom on your machine will give you passenger to rider comms, music, GPS, mobile etc. but to chat bike 2 bike the other rider(s) would need to be accesorised likewise.

There are cheaper options, but clarity and distance will be lost with cheapo units

Logic 2 kit includes stereo headset and leads for both rider and pillion and comms hub - about £230
Kenwood TK3201 about £115.  Lead will be about £20.

Looks like they may have quoted you for two full sets (2 Logic 1's - i.e. for two bikes) maybe?

I bought the Interfone F5 for the wing and it was also around £350 for the two bluetooth headsets. I went this route because (at the time) many of my wing friends used the F5 and it will auto link with up to 7 headsets so great for group riding.

Obviously, now that I have migrated to a 'proper' bike the kit is still working great as long as I travel at less than 70mph - but that could be due to my noisy Scorpion flip front helmet. Over 70mph and it has the benefit that I can't hear the long haired general screaming....

Hi Guys,

I've been using Uclear for the last 4 years and it has been great! The best feature is that it doesn't comes with a Boom Mic.

Mine's the BC 100, bought 2 sets... used it every time I ride and especially so with my wife as an intercom.

Do check them out...

Zed, I had a autocomm , i used to plug my tomtom in and a PMR radio. had it for three years and it worked great although the helmet wire got on my nerves.

However I have now gone for the Scarla Pro 2, its a bluetooth unit selling now for £90, it has a 1000 metres back to back, you can still if you wish attach a PMR.

I have my garmin, phone, and partners helmet attached , all through bluetooth so no wires,

Its loud, battery lasts ages, and when I make phone calls whilst riding people don't realise I'm on a bike.
