Im new here and thinking of changing my k1200s for one. Seen a very nice 09 model for sale in blue with all the luggage Remus can and only 6k miles.
What I need to know is it worth looking for a younger model as I believe there were some updates but not sure what?
Many thanks for any advice
Welcome to the site..
10 plate and onwards have a redesigned fairing, bigger screen as standard, traction control and eco mode for fuel saving.
Mine's an 09 with 10,000 miles on it.. Don't miss the traction control, screen has been replaced with a Calsci large, fairing is fine where i am. (Uk) i believe if you live somewhere hot your legs got a bit toasty with the old design...
Also some complain that the mirrors are too low on the older one.. They work fine for me. The newer ones have been raised a bit..
Best ever mine's a minter for £6k.
Welcome to the Forum. :agree: Although the 2010+ model has some improvements it also appears to have some issues, as you will learn reading through the threads on here. I am very happy with my 57 plate, as like Bryn I have fitted a Calsci XL screen, handlebar risers ans extra mirrors to have a better view over the luggage. Below is a link to some pictures of my bike which may give you an idea of what is achievable. Sorry about the formatting, I have since learnt how to do it properly!

Can't help you with year and model advice Mr Blade but all I would say is :185: !
The Gtr is a lovely bike and this is a great place for advice and friendly banter ... you won't regret your purchase !

They also have heated grips as standard, a 'glovebox' in the fairing instead on the tank and an extra switch on the handlebar for eco mode and changing the display. They also made the original 'spud launcher' a bit shorter; but since the bike you're looking at already has an after market exhaust it's obviously not really relevant. It also has linked brakes, but I'm not sure if those may already have been on the previous models too.
Despite what people owning the older model may claim the traction control is great especially in the wet. It's just like ABS - once you had it you wouldn't want to go back to a bike without it.

Spot on Mecki :agree:
Welcome along to the forum. I've had both, pre and post 2010 models and they were both great. My personal preference is the 2010 model as it has a few extra refinements on it but I loved my 2007 model also. I had some great trips on it and it NEVER let me down.
Whichever you choose to go for you'll love the bike. Fundamentally it makes no difference.

Yes, and you won't go wrong with either revision.

Debs, it may have been before it got damaged. The bike is expensive considering the damage it has to it.
Welcome along hrcblade,
Ive had a 2008/9, 2010 and currently own a 2011 model GTR, between times I had a couple of BMWs which were :shit:
You wont be dissapointed with the 09 model it will do all that you require and more. The GTR is an awesome machine
BTW how much is the 09 model you are looking at ?
There's lots of great advice and friendship on this forum too
hrc blade
Mine is for sale a 10 reg have a look on autotrader.
Quick update, going to test ride 09 model which I mentioned earlier in this thread. It's maybe bit overpriced but will ride it and I guess the price to change is the important number. Hope it's as good as what everyone says

If it's got the standard screen on it don't let that put you off
Or the crappy Bridgestones
...or a four cylinder engine...
He does keep banging on about his KrautWing doesn't he. :hammer:
Methinks he's trying to convince himself that he made the right choice but deep down he regrets getting rid of the GTR.
Winnie, it's OK to admit that you made a mistake. We will welcome you back with only a minimum of piss-taking. :whistling:

Yeah right :mfr_lol:
George, you know I love the GTR, and even more, the piss taking!
I have to admit that I loved the smoothness of my Z1300 but the 1400 is just as smooth and a LOT more powerful.
Of all the BMWs I'd most like to have a late model R100RT (single sided rear) as they were just a nice all round characterful bike.
Since then I guess I'm just not in BMWs target market as I'm not silly-rich and the only badge fetish I have is Kawasaki, oh and I have no desire whatsoever to be a Charlie/Ewan clone.
If I win the lottery I reserve the right to change my mind but even then I'd probably buy a GutWing,....... and a ZZR1400,...... and a KTM Adventure,...and an Alcohol Funny Bike,............. :innocent:
Oh, by the way, welcome aboard HRCBlade and all the others who have joined since I last welcomed our newer members.
As you can see the insanity seems to be built in.
Update.
I bought it, part ex'd the BM so pick it sometime next week. Cant get over how smooth it was. Spent about 2 hours on so hopefully weather is ok next week.

Good decision, you wont be disappointed....pics when you can
Picking it up tomorrow and hopefully out saturday with my mate on his k1600. Will get pics up then. Looking forward to it
picked it up on Friday and did 200 mile on it Saturday, still can't decide whether it is black or blue....................
Smoothness is fantastic and handles beautifully for such a big bike. No negatives really at the moment but will probably find the odd little niggle.

It will be Midnight Blue like mine... Looks black from a distance but sparkles blue when the sun shines on it...
Thats the one although we don't get much sun in Wales
